Aside from the artstyle just not working, the main premise falls flat when the main draw is that the emoji as a whole are just actors. They make a big stink about Gene making the wrong face, but to go on a whole journey over a simple mistake like that feels over-the-top... I remember seeing art someone made about the human characters and people claiming it could've been about Alex having trouble talking normally to Addie, or just in general, and speaking through emoji texts on his phone-just a cute little romance movie like that where she helps him open up more would've been better than what we actually got.
