The book and this movie are so different ! They cut out so many actually important scenes- in the book they get in so much trouble at the away game bc they left the hotel and went to a club and skinny dipped in his aunts pool, then they fell asleep at a midnight lawn movie and missed the bus in the morning (hence why it was such a big deal) Then his sister went home from a friends house late one night and he didn’t want to go so he sent her home alone and she was found a week later dead in a ditch. So he’s weird about letting Dallas walk home alone bc that’s how his sister died. (I haven’t watched the movie but based off Dylan’s comments I feel like the movie skipped over these parts haha)

so many people seem to love this movie because it’s a cute teen romance & relatively lighthearted. but my biggest issue with it was the lack of depth & conflict throughout, especially in these 2 specific moments. thank you for commenting & giving all of this insight. knowing that these events were actually executed wayyy better in the books, i’m so upset they made both moments not seem that serious & dramatic in the movie. including more of these things in the movie would’ve improved it so much more into being a really good modern teen rom-com instead of this simple, kinda cringey tubi movie
