Not making room for other people on the sidewalk isn't being manly... it's being an asshole.
@Gildedmuse6 ай бұрын
That's correct. However, in most western cultures men are raised without as much concern when it comes to how much space they take up, and so they might not move over on sidewalks or spread their legs while sitting extra wide without thinking, because they were not raised to be conscious of those things the same way women are, where there is a lot of social pressure to take up as little room as possible. That goes for size but also just how you carry yourself, how you walk /sit/stand, etc. So, while purposefully not moving out of the way or taking up more room than necessary in a way that makes people uncomfortable or forces THEM to constantly accommodate YOU certainly is the act of a jerk, a lot of men - especially younger men or men who haven't had as much empathix experience with others - do so not with malice but purely out of ignorance. I don't think they're all jerks, they've just been taught by society that it's their right to take up that much room or not move or basically just being allowed to occupy a space without any concern for others or their perspective and they don't realize that not having society dictating to you "you need to constantly be aware of others and their needs and how they feel and also just to stay safe physically always be aware of your surroundings, especially in the presence of men" is less a right and more of a privilege. One they don't realize they have. So rather than blaming them for something they don't even realize they're doing, I personally think education is the better route. But lack that, you know, shoulder check someone. Maybe they'll realize you ALSO need to use the sidewalk, thank you very much. We can all give each other room, this shouldn't be just one side's job.
@badwolf36186 ай бұрын
@@Gildedmusethis is absolute BS. In my life, large groups of women taking up the entire sidewalk or even the entire hallway at the mall were much more frequent than men doing that. And claiming that men were raised to not know how much space they take up is even more nonsense. Women take up so much space with their shopping bags, and the typical household the home is almost entirely decorated and taken up by stuff the wife put there. Men require so little space to be comfortable and do what we need to do, so it drives me nuts when I see women try to claim otherwise. And yet women constantly bitch about men having false perceptions of them..... Projection and a superiority complex is pretty powerful drug combo. Edit: forgot to address the "man spreading" BS. We sit like that because we have a dick and balls in between our legs that we would prefer not to get crushed. That should be so glaringly obvious but your misandry drives you to find the worst possible interpretation, no matter how illogical it is. It has NOTHING to do with being socialized to take up lots of space.
