I often wonder where he'd be today. Like so many "big" actors known for their comedic roles, John's comedy belied a lot of emotional potential, and he wanted to branch out into more serious roles. John was Uncle Buck to so many, and I formed a huge bond with him at a very young age. SCTV was filmed in Edmonton, Alberta where I live, and it was always something special seeing the same streets I walked, shared by this wonderful, talented man. I always suggest checking out the SCTV aired mockumentary "The Last Polka" with John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, and Rick Moranis. Available for free on KZbin, it's hysterically funny and poignant. I miss John Candy dearly, and there will never be another one like him.

I love your take on Tia. She is a teenager who felt like her parents ignored not only her, but what she wanted. Buck not only showed her that he was someone who cared for her, and would watch out for her, but that just because he was enforcing discipline doesn't mean that he was the bad guy. He didn't take her shit and stood his ground against the remarks and tantrums. Something I don't thinkk she had seen before.

All kids want is for adults to take their concerns seriously and treat them like human beings - especially teenagers. Parents ramble on about respect, but that’s only because they’re in a position of authority. It’s not based on their actions or behaviour. It’s about power.

1. Many say Planes Trains and Automobiles but I say this was his best. 2. Of course it's Chicago. This is a John Hughes film. 3. Macaulay Culkin got the "Home Alone" gig because Landis loved him in this. 4. That's the same High School used by Hughes for "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Beuller's Day Off". 5. Making a stack of pancakes that big would take A LOT of work. 🙄(and money) 6. Tell me you didn't enjoy this. I dare you 😁

Man, it's hard to pick between Uncle Buck and P,T,aA for Candy's best performance. I totally get either choice. I would probably lean P,T,aA just because of the dramatic notes he gets to play throughout the film. He gets some of them here, of course, as well. But you know which scenes I'm talking about. They're amazing, and to me, are pretty much what make the movie a classic.

John Candy is my childhood, such a great, talented actor. Gone too soon. I recently visited his burial inside a church in L.A. and spoke at his crypt about how he was my childhood, and he continues to make me laugh, even as much as he did when I was a kid, especially Uncle Buck. After I returned to my hometown, Uncle Buck out of nowhere was on T.V. at the part where I told him a ''mouse and Sheetmetal'' scene was stuck in my head. I guess maybe he heard what I said because they don't play Uncle Buck on T.V. as much where I'm from. Crazy cool Coincidence. Glad you enjoyed this iconic classic film of his.
