I remember watching an Eddie Murphy interview where he said he didn’t love this movie. He originally wanted it to be a serious horror film but execs didn’t think a black lead in a horror would fill seats and they didn’t think people would take Eddie seriously since he had such a huge career in comedy. I wish we could have seen what Eddie had in mind

If anything this was John Witherspoon's movie. He was the MVP of the movie no doubt as he did most of the comedy chops. Eddie doesn't get that much credit for that in his 90s films where in some of his films he gives most of the comedic lines to others while he plays the straight man. That to me is why i always rewatch Vampire In Brooklyn once in a while because of John. Rest In Power.

@jessediaz12932 ай бұрын
Wes Craven is credited as the director but as you saw in the opening credits, Eddie Murphy’s name shows up multiple times. I read that most of the production the actors and crew were taking direction from Eddie Murphy. This movie is basically directed by Eddie Murphy.
@SistaGurlonFilms2 ай бұрын
I feel like I saw that somewhere too! And Eddie was upset because he wanted more of a traditional horror while Wes wanted a horror comedy, so they butted heads a little bit
@jessediaz12932 ай бұрын
@ yes Eddie did want do more serious stuff. He was in line or rumored to play the titular Candyman. I’m so happy he didn’t get the part because Tony Todd (RIP 🕊️) lived and breathed that character. Vampire In Brooklyn was sort of the halt in Eddie Murphy and Wes Craven’ career. After that movie both of them got revamped (😏) career wise. Eddie did Nutty Professor, his biggest hit of the 90s and Wes made Scream, sort of the movie that saved horror (at that time).

While not great, I really enjoy Vampire in Brooklyn as a Blacula homage. There's some good jokes, especially from Kadeem Hardison and John Witherspoon, Angela Bassett is delicious, and Eddie is pretty solid (I don't mind the accent, he's not doing it too thick and even gives it a bit of an aristocratic lilt) even if his puns are terrible. It just makes me sad that Eddie did better whiteface in Coming To America 😅 The ashy goon stick-up is pretty cringe. The proto-Klump preacher fat suit is good though. Seems like Eddie enjoyed it enough to run it into the ground creatively 😅
@texvor694910 ай бұрын
Its not a homage to Blacula. Not even close. If anything Vampire In Brooklyn is more of an adaption of the original Dracula story. As it shares key elements from that story. The ship that transports Dracula with most of the crew dead and a mysterious dog escaping the ship. The renfield character turned into a mad "ghoul" obsessed with eating insects. Dracula's search for his new bride whom he fallen for. And the love interest and van helsing character that stops him at the end.
@SistaGurlonFilms9 ай бұрын
OMG!!! I am so happy that I am not the only one that feels this way about that Italian character!!! Eddie did it so much better in Coming to America! And the preacher absolutely had the Klump voice! I immediately thought about Nutty Professor when he first started talking lol
