Flying Without Wings is a boyband CLASSIC and possibly the greatest boyband ballad out there, imo. For a change of pace tempo wise, I recommend, 'When You're Looking Like That' & 'Hello My Love'. Both absolute BANGERS. Also you should check out their version of 'You Raise Me Up' & their cover of 'Against All Odds' with Mariah Carey!

Thank God they changed their name as they were originally called westside. I loved westlife. I don't really feel old but the guys in westlife are roughly the same age as me. Soooooo many memories when I listen to them. Fly in without wings always brings a tear to my eye. Love it.

Thanks for your reaction. If you like behind-the-scenes videos then you have to watch "Beautiful World", that video is everything from their beginnings to the year before they split up. Mark is one of those who wrote that song. Another would be "Us Against the World" there you also have photos and footage from behind the scenes. And also in "When You're Looking Like That". In "My Blood", which is from the album of their return, they are with their children.

I totally agree, Westlife songs have the best melody lines for pop songs, they love big chorus and lastly the bridge and key change in the final chorus -- those are typical Westlife songs. 😃

'Flying Without Wings' makes me tear up every time. A beautiful song with a beautiful sentiment. So happy you're reacting to Westlife. You might want to react to BBMak. They're British and came out during the boyband craze of the '90s. What makes their group different is that there are only three of them, and they wrote most of their songs. They broke up amicably in 2003 after only 2 albums. I recently found out they reunited in 2019 and released another album. You can also find them doing acoustic sets, which shows how genuine their harmonies are. Their first hit was 'Back Here'. After that, pretty much every song on each album is lovely, imho. 98 Degrees is another group you might like as well.

I have a light interest in Westlife in that I'm probably familiar with most of their singles, but not so much their album tracks. "Flying Without Wings" is a staple on the family playlist. Agree on the top of the building comment! I struggle to go on the 2nd floor of anything, let alone on top of a skyscraper. Solo songs, I would suggest Shane's songs "Unbreakable", "Me and the moon", "Beautiful in white" and together as a group I would suggest their latest songs, some of which was written by Ed Sheeran. "Hello my love", "Dynamite", "Starlight" and if you really love behind the scenes, you will love "My blood" with their families. Kian won some best hair competition, so you're right on the money! I've seen them live twice and they are brilliant! They just sold out Wembley stadium this past Saturday and it streamed in cinemas. They are as huge as ever.

There's some cool videos of Westlife and Boyzone performing together which you should check out sometime. Also McFly are a classic mid 2000s boyband from England who have some great songs as well, underrated in the US for sure. Busted were very similar but at least year 3000 made it across via the Jonas Brothers.

I remember one of them is gay, the one with the best voice. Unfortunately, one of them (one of the blonds) is/was a homophobe with religious views. He once said something homophobic. That's what I remember.

Boyzone were around the same time. If you do them leave 'Gave it all away' till later. One of the members died and its a tribute to him.

Boyzone were actually before Westlife, they were set up as an Irish version of Take That in the early 90s, Westlife are late 90s onwards. I think Ronan Keating of Boyzone (and solo fame) co-managed Westlife when they first became famous with Louis Walsh, they were signed to their record label by Simon Cowell of X Factor fame.

@@wereleopard58yepihavetwo2 I remember both Boyzone coming onto the scene, when I was at uni, and Westlife, when I was starting my first job. I think Boyzone had just about finished when Westlife hit the charts. Ronan Keating was still going on his solo career, but I don't remember them ever being in the charts at the same time, maybe there was a small overlap. I don't think Ronan would have been able to co-manage them whilst being in a band at the same time, he was moving on from all that.

@@wereleopard58yepihavetwo2 Ok, fair enough, but I think Boyzone were on the decline when Westlife first hit the music scene. I also don't really see the two bands as the same type anyway, except they were all male bands, so comparing them is a little pointless in my opinion. I have liked both for different reasons, one for being a fun band with charisma and some good songs, the other more for their vocal ability. Boyzone were a lot more manufactured and I think two of the members were more dancers than singers and didn't really don't at all except the backing vocals. All of Westlife could sing and sing well. I know their early stuff was boyband like stuff, but I always thought they were proper singers in their own right, not just a group of lads thrown together to look and act cool. Sure Ronan and Stephen could sing but the rest of them were just there to get the girls interested and look good.
