I could honestly listen to these beautiful voices for hours and i actually have been known to do just that! Mandy is a Barry Manilow cover but in my humble opinion,this is the better version.

They were originally called Westside but changed it to Westlife, which is a far better and commercial name. The thing is, they knew the type of band they were. They never took themselves seriously and still had 14 UK number 1 singles the first time round. They did have some great covers like Barry Manilow's Mandy and Phil Collins Take A Look At Me Now with Mariah Carey.

I was watching your reaction when frustratingly load shedding kicked in. I had to wait 2 and a half hours to watch the rest of the video. Worth the wait. Mandy is the song that was part of the reason for Bryan leaving the band, so he says. Apparently he felt they had no creative control over what they wanted to sing and frankly is also the reason why the rest of the band a couple of years later parted ways with Simon Cowell's record label. Interesting fact in case you did not know it. The reason you see only Shane ride a horse in ""Bop Bop Baby" is because he was actually a champion equestrian. Also, if the rich guy in that video looks familiar, it is the well known actor and former footballer Vinnie Jones.

Just discovered your channel this evening and loving seeing your reaction to Westlife's beautiful vocals that I've been lucky enough to listen to since before you were born! Also love seeing the way your face lights up when you see Mark, though maybe not in the ill advised bleach blonde phase! You should listen to What About Now next 🙂

Great reaction! I love how your face lights up when Mark is on the screen. Oh, and those were definitely the hottest musketeers ever 😂. Btw, Naomi Campbell was supposed to be the girl in the Bop Bop Baby video but she cancelled literally at the last minute and made them lose thousands of pounds because they had to pospone the filming for the next day. I also love Brian’s raspiness. I’m not his biggest fan but I agree that he has a beautiful voice.

Some comment on here says they're cheesy. Probably...But it's good kind of cheese in my opinion. Them and Backstreet Boys have been my favourites among the boybands for over 20 years now. And tomorrow I'm going to visit Westlife's home country. :) Also there's a video with BSB and Westlife singing together..sooo goood.

I couldn't agree more. Boybands all share the same cheesiness, in my opinion, and I think Westlife is very aware of that. It's just a different style of entertainment that may not be for everyone, and that's completely fine. 😊

You absolutely, maybe in a future live Westlife reaction, react to either The Dance and/or The Rose from their Love album, which are covers, but I think whenever Westlife do covers (like Seasons in the Sun or Mandy, which was a Barry Manilow song I believe) they make them 100% their own. Great voices, great songs. I'm not sure there are many, if any, bad Westlife songs. Looking forward to future reactions.

Thank you for doing Tonight! It's such a special song for me like most westlife songs but that's definitely in my top 5 and feels so under appreciated. In regards to Bop Bop Baby, would you marry for Money if Mark was the one saving you from that at the wedding like in the video?

Brian made Westlife’s sound so much better, a fuller sound and an extra lead. Even though he left on good terms it’s a shame he didn’t hit the heights as a solo artist. I would love to see him return to the group.
@niel.otos1425
@niel.otos1425 Жыл бұрын
I think one of the why’s why his solo career was not consistently good because he didn’t allow his songs to be produced by other individuals. That was one of his grievances during his stint in the band.

Westlife are so cheesy, Never understood why they were so ridiculously successful in the UK and Europe to a lesser extent but never elsewhere.
@mattpotter8725
@mattpotter8725 Жыл бұрын
It's called marketing. To break the US you need to be marketed to the teeth, travel around the country, be on every TV show that people watch to get themselves known and to grow a following. Also the isn't one homogeneous place, every country, even in Europe, has their own culture and and musical heritage. Westlife are Irish, and their music has influenced a lot of British music, a huge % of the UK population have some Irish heritage so I'm not sure what you expect. Many other bands that you may feel are great bands might never have heard much success outside of their home country and either didn't want to or weren't bothered in breaking the US. Maybe they were happy with what they had.
@veddyveddygood
@veddyveddygood Жыл бұрын
@@mattpotter8725 Fair points. Other acts like Robbie Williams and a whole host of 90's Britpop bands never cracked the US market either.
@mattpotter8725
@mattpotter8725 Жыл бұрын
@@veddyveddygood Oasis never truly cracked the US. Sure they had a following and a few hits but ask the average American and they wouldn't know who you are talking about. They are probably bigger there now since some reaction channels have in mind with them and reacted to a lot of their back catalogue, but conquering the US takes a lot of time and effort and most bands don't either have that or they don't last long enough to be able to do it, that or their sound changes, or the sound the US is into, which happens more often than not due to a new band in the US making it but and changing what is hip in the music industry. There are many reasons but I will think marketing budget and culture play a huge role. Why import say Westlife when you can just use NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys? The risk isn't the reward you can just use local talent, the same is probably true in Europe and there you have language hurdles as well, especially with the older generation, and resistant back in the 90s and early 2000s.

They were not only successful in the Uk and Europe. They were pretty successful in many parts of Latin America too. The 4 main boybands here were nsync, westlife, bsb and five. Many of their singles went to N1 in my country. Trust me, if they hadn’t been successful here I wouldn’t have known them back in the day when Internet was not that common. And I know they were successful in some parts of Africa too. And they’re huge in parts of Asia even to this day. It’s just the US that didn’t appreciate them enough 🤷‍♀️ P.S.: Robbie and Oasis were pretty successful here too! Hey, we even have a “celebrity” who has now become a wannabe politician” that became famous because she allegedly slept with Robbie 😂. Thank you, Robbie 🙄😂

@@Cba0 I think the US is a completely different beast and there are gatekeepers to access the market that prohibits those that aren't actively pushed from gaining anything more than a cult following, namely record labels. I also think the size of the country and insularity also plays a role although in terms of size some countries in South America also have this, but I would still say, with my knowledge of Brazil, that the biggest stars there are Brazilian. I think though that a lot of the rest of the world, other than the US, does maybe have more access for historical and cultural reasons to artists from Europe (maybe also the US). These artists though just so have become known in your country and others somehow, I would guess from either touring or promotion of their singles/albums they gained a foothold though, I don't think that it just happens organically so there has to be a reason many successful artists from Europe haven't broken the US and I think it is because without promotion the US is so inward looking that there own artists are much more prominent. I think the reverse does happen as well, although I think because of the promotion and money behind the big artists in the US to get them to be superstars they get access to the European market more easily.
