TURNING My $2,800 Silverado Into An $8,000 TRUCK By Fixing All The Small Things

I bought a 2010 Chevy Silverado that runs and drives for $2,800. In the last episode we swapped the oil pressure sensor and cleared one light off the dash, today we're going to tackle the other light and make it look like a new truck. New headlights, a quick wash, ordering a transmission, going super deep on GM radio troubleshooting, and fixing the TPMS system... all in a days work!

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZbin videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?

Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

Installing an aftermarket radio is really not worth it for a cheap flip. For this truck you would need a dash kit $20, antenna adaptor $10, factory integration unit gmos-03 I think $120 and a cheap radio $100. That's like $300, or use a factory radio someone gave you for free?

FYI, on the radio if you remove the theft lock chip your radio will work but you lose your presets. I did it on my '04 Century becasue I bought a near new radio on eBay to replace a worn one and after removing the chip my radio was on some Spanish station every time I would turn my car on. I wasn't going to pay the dealer $100+ just to program it for me for 5 mins. After breaking the new radio by removing the chip I just swapped the face like you did onto my old working unit. It was a bit more of a pain becasue you had to take the radio apart to get the 2 harnesses (cassette and CD) that plugged into the internals of the radio out and one of them was very difficult to unplug and even harder to plug back in but I finally got it working.

Some technicians will say, "never do this" while others will say, "Nah, it'll be fine." This is based on their own observations, so it's clearly not a cut-and-dry (no pun intended) situation. I'm guessing that most of the time it will be fine, but every once in a while it will cause a problem. So really, why take a chance? You can safely blow out the engine bay with compressed air and use a spray bottle with some car wash mix and a towel to spot clean.

@@JSFGuy Blowing out the dirt and leaves from an engine bay? Sure, I do that all the time. And yeah, it does do something, it's removes surface dust and debris so I can work on the engine. And if you're not working on something under the hood, why would you need to clean it at all?

I know a year or so ago I replaced a radio in a 2005 Chevy TrailBlazer and realized that they VIN locked them. Since I was cheap and refused to pay anyone to unlock it, I desoldered and swapped the EEPROM that stored the VIN from one radio to another and it surprisingly worked perfectly. As far as the aux input, I would bet on it being able to be soldered back in place or the jack to be a cheap off-the-shelf component.

I also had to swap the radio screen on my 07 Fit. They are known to develop a fault where the screen fades depending on the temperature. They look fine when cold but get any amount of heat near them and you can't see crap. In the summer, the screen was basically useless. The factory radio in a Sport is actually pretty good so I wanted to keep mine. The screen/control board come as part of the center stack panel. I bought the panel but removed the screen/control board and put them in my old panel since the HVAC symbol stickers are three separate (and not very cheap) purchases. Now I have a fully usable radio no matter the temperature.

I have a 2011 Silverado and since bluetoothing music through the radio is not an option the audio port is a must! They all fail like yours. The fix is simple its just broken solder. Take the screen back off, there are a few 6 or 5mm screws on the back of the plate. Then you can re-solder the audio jack. It literally takes about 5 minutes but it is definitely worth the time, effort, and drops of solder. The camera has an awesome picture by the way

The Saab get around for changing radios would probably work. You need the VIN from the donor vehicle though, you go in using Tech 2 and change the chassis number to the donor vehicles one and it then recognises the radio as being in the correct vehicle. You just change it back once it's recognised and you're good to go. You can do radio's and the security TWICE unit as well.

About 10-20 years ago, you used to be able to get a code for a radio if you swapped it out. You used to be able to get it from the dealer, and then you push a couple buttons on the radio a certain way and put in the code. Then it would work with the new car. Might have missed a step there someplace but you get the gist of it.

I have learned the hard way that when buying these affordable aftermarket lights , it is a great idea to run a bead of silicone all the way around the seal on the lenses (where they seal to the housing) the night before, then install next day. Lots of these are assembled quick n sloppy and the seal will leak inside the light causing blown bulbs and headaches......

I believe if you took that fender off and rolled it out slowly you may be able to fix it still. then just PDR the door and you're good body wise. after hearing the transmission cost , you're about out of profit margin on that truck and you'll be lucky to break even on it. of course you have all of the video revenue to offset that but still*

I had a 2008 Silverado and never had the issue with the aux input. I used it all the time too. Kinda helps to put the device in the console to keep it from flinging itself across the truck and destroying the input jack 🤷🏻‍♂️

You need to use SPS and reflash the radio with a MDI/MDI2. I do a bunch of reflashing. Great video!!

Body Control, Radio, Active Test will relearn the Vin to the BCM. Autel and the Tech 2 both have it. You can also use a Jbox and to a SPS relearn but it will cost you $40 for a 2 year subscription to your VIN.

Honestly gm still has a unlocking service u call a 1 800 number and they give u the security code for the radio u manually punch into it. Real simple.

The new camera was better then the others, I did notice a small lag during the dark parts once or twice but seemed better over all the any of the others. Maybe just keep with the old one that seemed to work best lol

Gotta agree with Sean Wieland, high pressure in the engine bay is a no no. I know from experience cause Alberta dirt is similar to Kansas dust. I use Engine Brite ( GUNK ) sparingly and then rinse with a " garden sprayer " and a good pin point nozzle. Helps to have the engine compartment and the rinse water tepid. Just sayin'. Should at least bag the alternator.

Does your Autel do 1394 pass through/GM SPS programming? A TDS/SPS subscription is only $40 per VIN for 2 years. Then you can reprogram every module on that truck if you needed.
