DRIVING My $3,500 Corvette For The FIRST TIME

WETVette lives again! After a ton of work my $3,500 Corvette is back on the road with a built LS6, tons of new parts, and a few things left to make the perfect daily driver. As always there was plenty left to do before we could take it out for a drive. All the fluids had to be checked and refilled, the Flowtech exhaust needed installed and clamped together, and a lot of body panels had to be reinstalled. For a first drive everything went about as well as could be expected!

FYI, the power seats typically have issues with the wiring that can be repaired easily. Something like the seat tugging on the ground wire causing it to pull out or rub through. I have one that is intermittent on mine.

Even with what JR has spent fixing the car, he is probably still doing ok. I have been looking for a decent, not pristine C5, and they are hard to find for under 15 where I live. I would say the first drive was a success. There are always bugs to finesse out of a major project like this. It ran, drove, and made it home with no smoke so I say it was a success.

You can use the fuel in a different car.... Just pull the line off the rail, hook a hose to it & put power to the fuel pump and it'll drain in just a few minutes 👍🙂

TCS is probably the EBCM (though, could also be a ground issue). Recently fixed this issue on an '02 C5, but I believe the 97-00 cars are different and the same repair doesn't work for them.

Arctic White C5, that is all. I have a C5 Z and it is not white, not even Speedway White. But, Artic White on the C5 - decimates all!

If I took the entire drivetrain out, I would've six speed manual swapped this car. Put a dry sump in there or put an oil pan/sump in there to make sure it didn't starve for oil on a road course. Put some serious brakes on it, ran some square sized wheels/tires where I could rotate them, turn it into a curvy road/track beast. Also White/red leather, whoever ordered/bought this had SUPERB taste.

Umm, disconnect the fuel line, and run the fuel pump via a scanner, and dump it into a bucket. I like this Corvette series. Probably your best so far

Most important thing is the engine sounds good which it does...no metallic sounds...engine hits evenly. Oil pressure is pretty key. Perfect exhaust note. You could of course perform a compression test but it fires so evenly...likely the fuel, bad sensor...codes will be a tell...wrong engine map etc. Rest is tuning which can take a while when you don't have a box stock engine. You mentioned the injectors. Total faith you will sort it. It should run like a raped ape when you get it tuned. Great content. Congrats on getting it back together. Well done.

After some detailing love, this should be a good looking car again....need some 19x8 and 20x8 staggered and lowered 1.1 and 1.5 and she will look awesome. Needs a retune with the 91 octane pump gas, you'll be good to go. ABS issue could be the battery, hopefully the PCM isn't getting ready to crap out. :(

Wow, you're early tonight, I like the rat vette exhaust sound better so if you sell the rat vette you should swap out the exhaust first -- my opinion. Could the fact that traction control is non functional be causing it to not run at full power? I know some cars will do that. Also the white exterior with red interior is one of the iconic Corvette color schemes and I for one love it.

If it’s a 97-00 the ABS module is destined to go bad and cannot be rebuilt sadly, you need a module from a 01-04 they can be rebuilt

Flowtech sounds spicy for a fairly mild C5, I like it. Any idea how long the donor motor was sitting? Those Volvo green giants might have gotten a little crusty if it was a decent amount of time.

I really like the color combo on this vette. It kinda reminds me of a 70s or 80s spec but in a modern body style. The only thing I would change is a 6 speed instead of the auto. But for $3500, you can’t have everything.

Zora Arkus Duntov himself had mid-engine prototypes of the Corvette in the 1960s that were fully functional at GM’s Milford proving grounds. He wanted it to go mid engine way back then. Then there was the 1988 mid-Engine Corvette show car. Almost since the first 1963 C2 hit production the mid-engine had been somewhere in the plans.

Americans wanted front engine, push rod, V-8 engines with tons of low end torque. The demographic that's buying C-8's bought used Honda's and Toyota's from me and put fart can's as the exhaust tip.

That exhaust sounds the best. There is a 99% chance the injectors will have to be changed. That could be your loss of power/not down shifting all the way. Then a retune... 🤷‍♂️
