Super Street Fighter II (Actual SNES Capture) - Ken Playthrough on Max Difficulty

This is a capture of me playing through Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers on the SNES. This is not an emulator and was not played on the Wii or Wii U Virtual Console. This footage was recorded directly from my Super Nintendo using a real Super Street Fighter II cartridge. I'm using my favorite character, Ken, and playing on max difficulty (8 stars) with a 3-star turbo setting.
Although I already own Street Fighter II Turbo on the SNES and Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival for the Game Boy Advance, I decided to pick up a copy of Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers for the SNES. Street Fighter II is such a good game that you can pick up every variation (World Warrior, Championship Edition, Turbo, Super, Super Turbo) and still have fun.
As with my Street Fighter II Turbo upload, I'm beating this game on the highest difficulty without losing a single round.
I've been a Street Fighter II fan since The World Warrior first hit arcades in 1991. I remember the first time I played it at a 7-Eleven near my elementary school. I instantly got hooked and couldn't stop thinking about the game even during class. Of course, at the time, I didn't know how to do any of the special moves, but that didn't stop me from playing the crap out of the game. In fact, when I was only 7 or 8 years old, I entered a Street Fighter tournament hosted by that same 7-Eleven. They hooked up a bunch of Street Fighter II cabinets outside the store and had everyone play against each other in elimination matches. Naturally, I got my ass kicked in the first match, but I still had fun!
Once I learned the special moves I started getting more proficient, and for Christmas of 1992, my brother and I received a brand new Super Nintendo as well as a copy of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. We played that game to death. I remember all the neighbor kids coming over to our house to play it and we would hold our own little improvised round robin matches. By that time I started clobbering everyone with Ken. Damn was it fun. I even remember that some specific friends of ours (two brothers) picked up a Super Nintendo just to get to this game. That's how popular Street Fighter was back then.
Even though my brother and I owned the World Warrior, we would frequently rent Street Fighter II Turbo and Super Street Fighter II from the nearby video rental store. The new moves, characters, faster speed and greater challenge was plenty of incentive for us to rent the newer versions.
The SNES version of Super Street Fighter II has lower quality sound and fewer sound effects than Street Fighter II Turbo, but it features additional characters and moves and still includes selectable turbo settings. The AI is a little easier in this game compared to Turbo, but beating this version on max difficulty is still quite challenging. I hope you like the footage.
Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the official SNES S-video cable at 60 frames per second. I used a Toshiba model D-R550 DVD Recorder to upconvert the SNES's native 240p signal to 480i so that the Hauppauge could capture the console's audio/video signal.
I'm using a standard SNES controller.

Nah i was thinking the opposite. I think Street Fighter 2 Turbo soundtracks were much better. They sound way more muddy in this version.

Meh, by this point if you listened to the way they were doing most arcade music, the SNES felt mostly right in line with it.

This is very good! I remember playing the actual SNES, PS1, and PS2 that my dad used to have when I was 5 in 2006. Unfortunately all of this was lost in a house fire, so I have to play all of these games on an emulator. The only actual consoles I have now are the Vita and PS4. They're great, but I still miss those classics....Keep up the good work! :)

SFII was usually better on the SNES than on the Genesis/Mega Drive because the SNES had much better graphics and sound. SSFII was intentionally made better on the Genesis/Mega Drive to make up for the previous ports.
@camulodunon
@camulodunon 3 жыл бұрын
@@tskraj3190 ah yes, you again and your dumbass "intentionally made better" claims. Seriously, do you ever have any real context to back this kind of stuff up? Whenever a game on ANY Sega platform (not just Genesis) kicks the ass of the same on any other platform, you always try to bring up a same "intentional" excuse, over and over again without any real proof to back it up. Ok, fine. I'll actually give you a chance to give some actual evidence that Capcom intentionally made SSF2 better on the Genesis. So what exactly proves your claim? FYI, I myself have evidence to support my counterclaim. Why would Capcom intentionally make their most popular fighting game at the time worse on a system made by a company with much closer ties to them than Sega, let alone a console that was known for being more popular among fighting game players than their competitor's counterpart? That seems quite counter-intuitive to the sole reason why these ports are developed and released in the first place, that is, to make as much money off of them as possible. A company like Capcom will never care about the success of a console as much as they care about the success of the games they make for such a console. There is simply no reason why they'd want to "make up for the previous ports" unless they truly cared Sega's success, which they didn't (you realize that they were major competitor's in the arcade market). Please, get out of this mindset of yours and actually think for once.

@@camulodunon Ever heard of the "Sega Game Party Of The Year Awards"? This is one of the reasons game developers like EA, would port exclusive features to the Genesis. SSF2 was a 32 Meg cart on the SNES while the Genesis got a 40 Meg cart. Walk on home fanboy.
@camulodunon
@camulodunon 3 жыл бұрын
@@tskraj3190 Go on, keep saying this stuff that I already know. I already know that SSF2 on the Genesis has a larger cart size. I already know about "Sega Game Party of the Year Awards". And one thing I know that you didn't know until now because of your stupidity, is that Capcom isn't EA. You're statement there is completely off topic. If you really think that Capcom intentionally gave SSF2 on the Genesis more cartridge memory for the sake of making Sega's console look better, then how about providing some *actual evidence* instead of mentioning Electronic Arts? Oh, and don't use the same "fanboy" excuse as everyone else, it's clear that the real fanboy here is you.

I used to play the hell out of this game on an emulator back in 2007 and 2008. looking at this game now though, I'm very disappointed in Capcom for making the Congratulations screen with all the characters only appear if you beat the game without losing a single round. why would they make getting that ending so difficult? they never did that with Street Fighter 2 The World Warriors, in that game you only had to beat the game without continuing just to see the congratulations screen with ALL the characters. so why not this game?? what the hell were they thinking???

Actually, the first SF2 coming out on consoles was MUCH bigger. The game was flat out sold out EVERYWHERE for like 2 or 3 months straight. I got to play the japanese version through a neighbor who managed to get it.
@Darknight0681
@Darknight0681 5 жыл бұрын
The reason both versions did the bricks was because of sprite per scan line limitations. And also, having to deal with the possibility of two Sagats on those bonus stages. Those limitations also affects the arcade versions up to Super as well. If you ever wondered why the palm trees in Sagat’s stage disappeared in later games, along with stuff like the signs in Ryu’s stage, well he’s the reason for that too.

Mega Man X sound font. That’s why. Granted it’s probably the closest way to get the music over along with the projectile effects. Unfortunately it messed with the hit sounds, as they’re system generated too and not sampled.

@@Biggrittz Nope. The Sound sucked because it was a 32megabit/4 megabyte while the Genesis got a 40 megabit/5 megabyte Rom size. If the SNES got the 40 meg/5 megabyte Rom size the sound would of been clear as crystal.
