I've actually seen the two episodes of Turn-on that were produced. It WAS ahead of its time. Audiences of today would have no problem with the show. But 1969 is a whole other ballgame. The jokes flew at you from every direction. Instead of an audience or canned laughter, they used a Moog Synthesizer instead of an audience. The show didn't have an opening credits sequence. Instead, the credits were run after commercial breaks. Finally, the show didn't have an actual set. It was filmed in a big, white room and was designed to make viewers somewhat uncomfortable. The premise of the show was that it was all created by a computer. The second episode would've featured the first motion captured CGI. Do a KZbin search for Turn-on Dancer, and it should come up. It would've totally freaked out a 1969 audience.

problem 1 with Battletoads: TMNT was a comic book at first, not a video game
@119Agent3 жыл бұрын
I caught that too, but she didn't actually say that TMNT was a video game first, she just says that it WAS a video game like BattleToads. TMNT was a successful TV series, so they looked for other things that they could make into a TV series and found BattleToads the video game. TMNT was also a video game so that was the "if this works, that will work too" inspiration. I can see how it could be interpreted that the TMNT started as a video game. Edit: Besides, the TMNT video game was released two years after the tv series.

I've seen what little exists of the pilot elsewhere on KZbin. No one missed much. Personally, I think that terrible theme song (apparently sung by a dying cat) may have been the kiss of death.

I can remember watching old VHS tapes as a child, a cartoon called The Fluppy Dogs a number of times. It was created by Disney and was intended to be made into an animated series but was axed after it's pilot episode; which aired on Thanksgiving 1986 due to underwhelming ratings. I very much liked this cartoon as a child.

"Why not adapt ANOTHER video game into a cartoon"... Uhhh... TMNT was a comic before anything. And I am pretty sure TMNT was adapted into a cartoon (1987) before they were adapted into a video game (1989). Do your homework.

I've heard the legend of "Turn On" for years and it's intriguing to finally see some clips from it. There was a show on Comedy Central in the early/mid 90's that look very similar to the clips shown, a bunch of random short sketches against a white background. The only sketch I remember is a group of guys dressed up as a rock band yelling "are you ready to rock" with a response from the audience of "no, give us 5 more minutes." I only watch parts of maybe a couple episodes and think it lasted maybe 6-8.

Wait, what about Viva Laughlin??!! The show was a musical crime drama set in Laughlin NV. It had HUGH JACKMAN and Melanie Griffith in it. It was based on the series Blackpool from the UK, with David Tennant, Sarah Parrish and David Morrissey. That one was a success. The US version, no.
@fromthehaven943 жыл бұрын
Hugh Jackman was better off trying to do a TV version of the Broadway musical he did in between the X-Men movies. At least before Les Miserables and Greatest Showman, anyway.

Good list. I don't know how many episodes they got but some other shows that failed quickly, The Wayne Brady Show. Every attempt he made to make his own show filed quickly. Scorch the dragon, Little Rosey, Police Squad, there was one I can not recall the name of or find in for on that was set in a video game world where the father was a Mario-style character, the son was a looser nd the daughter was an anime school girl, ed grimley, the weird Al show, Morton & Hayes , $#*! My Dad Says, The Crazy Ones, jody loves chachi, my mother the car, Gloria, Mockingbird Lane , all of the heroes spinoffs, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., eerie indiana , Galahad nd Pushing daisies I know got a few episodes as did Police academy the series and space balls. Proving Ground, Shuriken high, Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, hypernauts, WMAC Masters , Hey Vern, It's Ernest! Malcolm and Eddie, do over, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, Time After Time, Aquaman, M.A.N.T.I.S., Alf's hit talk show, The Alan Brady show, Phyllis, angelica's school daze, Soul Man but over all you got the big failed ones I would have listed.
