Bartman's "mistake" shouldn't be on here. That was not a mistake. Fans will reach for a foul ball if it's coming toward them, and if the ball is in the stands, it's fair game for the fans to catch it. Instead, Zidane's headbutt should be up high. That happened in the World Cup final, and it cost France a World Cup championship.
@brianarbenz1329
@brianarbenz1329 3 ай бұрын
Besides that, it would have been just the second out had the ball been caught, and the Cubs gave up multiple runs in the rest of the inning. So the Bartman mishap was not as crucial to knocking the team out of the series as many think.

@melissagrant4178 In game 6 of the series, the St. Louis Cardinals were leading the Kansas City Royals 3 games to 2. In the bottom of the 9th inning, the Cardinals had 1 to 0 lead and were 3 outs away from winning the series. The first batter for the Royals hit a chopper into play. The Cardinals fielded it and got it to first base before the runner reached, but the umpire, whose view of the play was obscured, incorrectly ruled the runner safe. The Cardinals proceeded to collapse, and the Royals went on to win the series in 7 games.

Buckner is so infamous one of the PS2 MVP Baseball games had the commentary line “Shades of Bill Buckner” if a ball got past a first baseman (those games had a TON of dialog for the time. Play a game at Shea, the dialog would randomly be interrupted by a loud jet flying overhead.)

Steve Bartman should NOT be on this list. -Even without all the fans there, Alou still might not have caught the ball. -Prior on the same at bat threw a wild pitch which allowed the batter to get on 1st (which should have been a red flag to the pitching staff he was wearing down) -2 batters later, they could have gotten out of the inning on a double play, if their all-star Shortstop didn't pick a horrible time to bobble the ball on the hit. -And later in the inning, a Marlins player who had been terrible all NLCS got a 3-run RBI to basically ice the game Bartman isn't the reason the Cubs failed to execute when it mattered the most.

It happened again this past season in the NFL on a Monday night game between Denver and Buffalo. The Bills held a 22-21 lead with 35 seconds remaining, but gave up 28 yards on a pass interference call. The Broncos have no timeouts remaining and have to hurry to the line to get the FG attempt off, which they do, but miss on a 41-yard attempt by Will Lutz. But the Bills were flagged for 12 men on the field, giving the Broncos a 36-yard 2nd attempt, which they capitalized on.

My favorite part of that is they had all offseason to stew on their mistake. Then the very first game of the next season, they repeated the mistake of having too many men on the field to overturn a missed field goal that turned into a made field goal that lost them the game.

18:17: Bill Buckner's error did not allow the Mets to eventually win the 1986 World Series. I don't know why people such as those at WatchMojo like to use revisionist history like that. For one thing, it wasn't Bill Buckner's fault that in Game 6, the Red Sox ultimately blew a three run lead despite previously needing just one more out to win the game and the World Series. That's on the pitchers, Calvin Schiraldi and Bob Stanley. Secondly, even had Buckner cleanly fielded the ball, the game still would've been tied going into the top of the 11th inning and who knows what would've happened after that? And are we forgetting that in Game 7, the Red Sox actually had a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning? The Mets of course, managed to again, rally back and win the game 8-5, but it wasn't like the Red Sox were down for the count after Bill Buckner's error from the previous game. How come nobody wants to blame the Red Sox's relief pitching (particularly, Calvin Schiraldi, who was the losing pitcher in Game 7 and was the losing pitcher in three games in the 1986 World Series for the Red Sox) and their manager, John McNamara, who kept Buckner in there late in Game 6 (he during the postseason, would normally replaced Buckner at first base with Dave Stapleton) despite knowing that he was injured his mobility was compromised.

I worked as a sports reporter for newspapers for 12 years and I saw a player in the Indiana high school basketball final 4 (the greatest show in U.S. high school basketball) on Marion High School's team call time out when his team tied the game on a basket with 2 seconds left. There was no need for a time out, but he thought his team was down by 1 point. The opposing team, Broad Ripple High School of Indianapolis (David Letterman's old school, btw) had no time outs left and the final 2 seconds would have ticked off and the game gone into overtime, but a free time out was given them via the Marion player's mistake, and when they came out, Broad Ripple hit a 57-foot shot (17.4 meters) to win the game. Marion was the great powerhouse in Indiana boys basketball, winning five state titles between 1975 and 1987, by far the greatest run by any high school boys team in the state's history. But that game in 1980 was the one that got away.

Bartman should have got a pass cause it was at least two or three other people tryna catch the ball with him. Group think is a hell of a drug I tell ya 🤦🏾‍♀️

Why isn't Don Denkinger's blown call at first base (where he called Jorge Orta safe even though the television replays showed that he was obviously out) in Game 6 of the 1985 World Series between the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals on this list?

the premier league wasn't a thing in the 70's 80's, there was also a lot more this year which cost the title, "offside" goal vs city a title decider

Super Bowl 49 - Pete Carroll has Russell Wilson pass the ball instead of giving it to Lynch, who would almost certainly have run it in for the score.

You guys missed the Bobby Witt perfect game that was ruined too. Though I understand why. Since that missed call was in the 6th inning. He ended to game having only allowed the one hit and no walks. So he would have had a perfect game too.

13:48 -- Well this loudmouth jinxster didn't help either! Seriously it drives me CRAZY when the announcers/commentators mention a no-hitter/perfect game in progress!! You know, during the play Armando's back was completely away so I don't think he knew at first the call was blown and hence why he didn't seem too upset...as he probably figured the runner beat the throw fair and square and though it was cool he at least got this chance. One thing's for sure, his first baseman's reaction was like, "Oh why couldn't I have picked it up quicker and/or thrown it a little harder!?!?"

The Leon Lett play the Cowboys were already up 52-17 so that didn't matter. The one in the snow DID cost the Cowboys the game since Miami had another shot at the field goal. Still didn't matter. The Cowboys won back to back Super Bowls and Leon Lett redeemed himself in the Super Bowl by causing a fumble and a run back for a touchdown to tie the game.

Bartman is not an issue in that game. Fans reach for balls all the time. The cubs collapsing after this is the cause of the loss. Were they so "fragile" as professionals and as a team that one fan could "break" them in this way? If they were, then that is one more reason bartman was not the issue.

I'm just thinking of the guy from the Chiefs who ran the wrong way during the latest Super Bowl. It didn't cost them, but it could've very well had made them lose the game. I didn't even care about the game (tbh, not a fan of US football or any sport aside from robot combat in general), but I'm glad I stayed in the room for that game because THAT made me laugh. And the Chiefs player watching who stood up and began to run from the sidelines with his hands up like "YOU IDIOT I WILL KILL YOU!".

I’ll disagree about Leon Lett’s Superbowl gaffe… Cowboys were ahead and still won. (Plus, the fact that Don Bebe slapped the ball out of Lett’s hand…that showed Bebe’s heart, passion, and fight. I’m a life-long Cowboys fan, but Don Bebe earned my deepest respect on that play). That Thanksgiving Snowbowl mistake… that cost the game. And, a much dumber mistake.
