Just a small correction Auron wasn't a dream but died after a solo, seemingly short fight, with Yunalesca. Dying he crawled down Mt Gagazet, asked Kimahri to bring yuna to besaid, travled a bit longer, was found by Rin the Al Bhed, died from his injuries but became an unsent and was then able to hitch a ride with Sin to the dream Zanarkand where he waited for sin's attack and brought him and Tidus back to Spira which.............yeah okay still super convoluted but not a dream LOL

Orchid Blossom I knew the legend. GoW1 seemed to deviate from it, and that wasn’t a problem for a videogame. Returning to Pandora’s Box origins was actually the most stupid idea/plot twist ever for me, not just it containing Hope. It makes everything in the story beginning from GoW1 look absolutely absurd, stupid nonsense on so many levels. And it is sad, cause GoW1 had the best story among hack’n’slash games for me. And GoW3 ruins it all, so, for me, it has the worst plot ever.

I think the MGS 2 one is good, the whole point of the game is the way the media can make you believe anything, and Kojima proved it by making you think you were playing as Raiden, who was being made to think he was the hero, in what was actually a complete simulation of Solid Snake's mission in order to see if it was possible to create the same output, and further control the media. .... what was I saying?

And Star Ocean's plot twist was awesome. And definitely DID NOT undermine anything. Just because they found out that their world was a game didn't change the fact that that remained their primary reality. The characters that they lived amongst in their reality had died in that reality and their fight at the end was a desperate act to make sure that Luther didn't delete everything they knew and loved. I'd say that those feelings actually enhance the importance of everything that happened before. The people of the eternal sphere grew an independence from their creator. He grew angry and tried to destroy their entire universe. And succeeded. But their newfound independence had built something inside of them that made them and their reality more than just 0s and 1s. That's why it still exists. Now just separate from its creator. Kind of exciting stuff. I don't really understand why nobody thinks a sequel could follow. The world's not dead.

I love the plot twist. The biggest issue they had with it is just how they executed it and then didnt really explain any more too it. And make thev10 eise man plot from 2 a more central plot

Blade Runner and The Matrix did the concept of AI being aware of its mortality a million times better than this. Star Ocean doesn't actually do anything to earn this twist or build up to it; it was just self-indulgent shock value for its own sake, which is why so many people feel it "undermines" so much. There's a reason the series kept silently pretending it had never dropped that bombshell. The series' writing was never anything spectacular (the PAs are usually way more entertaining than the plots of the games, but maybe that's the roleplayer in me talking) and that big reveal was such a transparently desperate attempt to raise the stakes, one that it's clearly never lived down.
@TheTetsuHai2 жыл бұрын
@@reloadpsi The Matrix is not even close to the reveal in till the end of time, The Matrix is made by machines to keep humans as a battery source. The Eternal Sphere was an adaptive software simulating an entire universe using the time axes system which allowed for AI's to develop freely while the people of 4d space would insert themselves into the the Eternal Sphere and experience life on an underdeveloped planet or just watch as the lives of the AI inhabitants play out. At one point Bugs would start to appear and would need debug programs to fix, this is why there are out of place objects in the universe with god like powers and "magic". In Star Ocean Second Story an ancient civilization in the Eternal sphere was doing advanced research some billions of years ago and stumbled upon the nature of Symbology which was to use the very code of the universe to change things, using this they found the symbol of annihilation which was the fail safe all delete which would purge the universe and restart the big bang. The Eternal Sphere is a highly advanced quantum simulation, the AI's didn't become self aware they always were self aware, the developers just never imagined that they would advance this far and when they did the company had an internal conflict between the head developers, some wanted to just erase the Milky way some wanted to full scale bug fix using the executioners and others wanted the Eternal Sphere discontinued and put in a Museum where they could continue to study the developing AI which had stunned even them.

The gameplay and the story of the first half of the game is phenomenal (especially with the kingdoms of Airglyph vs Aquaria conflict/drama) but the creators destroyed the entire franchise with that SO3 plot twist, not just the game itself. No point in fighting within a world that you can't eventually ascend out of considering it's an artificial world that the 4D Human creators can pull the plug at any moment and any progress that has be done within it was for naught.

Watch mojo your killing me. Okay, let me explain the FFX plot twist.1. You see Auron? Yeah, he's not a dream, he's unsent, just like (spoilers!) Seymour and Measter Mika. He was real, drop kicked the can, but wasn't sent to the farplane.2. For FFX to make any sense Tidus, Jecht, and Zanarkand HAVE to be a dream. The main story of the game explains that (more spoilers!) Yevon was wrong about everything, SIN wasn't a punishment, he was created by Yu Yevon to protect Dream Zanarkand when real Zanarkand was destroyed in the war with Bevelle a thousand years ago, Zanarkand' s citizens became fayth and dreamt of the city and its citizens, making Jecht and Tidus. Jecht got dragged on accident to Spira by sin, I swear to God THERE WAS NO TIME TRAVEL IN THIS GAME JUST SO WERE CLEAR later, Jecht as SIN brings Tidus to the real world to have Tidus kill him. The reason Tidus and Auron disappear in the end is because Auron and Tidus are going to the farplane, as they let the Fayth sleep for the first time in a thousand years, Auron went to the farplane as he had no reason to be on Spies anymore and fully passed on. Tidus went to the farplane as his time was up, his dream had ended. The difference being Auron was real at one point and Tidus was just the dream of someone who was. If Zanarkand wasn't a dream and didn't exist there would be no sin, if it wasn't a dream and there was (God plz no) time travel why would sin be a thing? It had to work out like that to make sense.

FFX's plot was actually pretty amazing and a great twist. Essentially people sacrifice themselves to become summons (the Fayth) to stop Sin, but it's all a trap. They are locked into an enternal dream and forced to power Sin in its new summon body. So, to get around this, they created THEIR OWN summon in the form of Jeht, and later Tidus to fight Yu Yevan, the spirit at the core of Sin. It works out very well, if rather cerebral.

First of all Auron is from Spira he isn't imaginary he's just dead. Zanarkand isn't a dream that is a lie Zanarkand is actually destroyed after the war. Tidus and Jecht aren't not real they are the Fayth's memories. The story goes like this Yu-Yevon used to rule Zanarkand and at the time Zanarkand was at was with Bevelle a city that used forbidden machines (sound familiar) Yu-Yevon did not want the people of Zanarkand to fall forever since they were losing the war so him being a powerful summoner (Probably the most powerful in FFX's history) he made all of the citizen's of Zanarkand into Fayth and used them to create New Zanarkand which means Tidus' ancestors created him he meets them and passes out at Mt Gagazet that wall of people yes those are the people of Zanarkand Tidus' ancestors. Yu-Yevon than became sin to punish bevelle to stop the evolution of humans completely but he than became corrupted like the Dark Aeons by the souls of the slain. Yu-Yevon himself is not evil neither is Yunalesca she's just doing as Yu-Yevon her father told her to do, Sin is just focused on protecting the Zanarkand inside his body. Inside of Sin (AKA Yu-Yevon) Tidus and Jecht are real just inside of sin, outside in Spira their Ancestors are the Fayth at Mt. Gagazet so they aren't just "Dreams" they are from a different reality made by the Fayth if the Fayth have no purpose (Which was one day killing Yu-Yevon and ending the cycle of Sin) than they go to rest in peace which is what they did at the end of FFX but Tidus is attached to Sin and the Fayth if they go to rest than everything goes back to normal and that means Tidus dies (Jecht already dead that motherfucka died 3 different times let him rest) and you can see him jumping into the Farplanes (AKA the afterlife) at the end of FFX after beating Yu-Yevon. The Fayth are powerful enough to create False Realities so they are strong enough to bring back the dead but they are highly against it but because Yuna has helped so much and Bahamut is a special Fayth that can talk for all the Fayth they reincarnate Tidus by gathering the peaces of his Soul and bringing him back.

The answer to the Heavy Rain plothole is the same as how the murderer in Umineko was able to commit the murders but still have they're scenes seem like it was impossible to happen. That wasn't the issue, it was the way in which the twist was revealed that made no sense. Apparently when Scott Shelby murdered Manfred, he did it very quickly because when you enter the back of the clock shop while controlling Shelby after several seconds of showing Lauren looking at the ballerina , Manfred is already dead. The most confusing part of all was that the main witness in this event was Lauren, and she didn't see the murder because she was distracted by a ballerina figure. That makes no sense.

Talking about star ocean 3, agreed on the FFX plot twist though
@NepBeard8 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I never understood the argument that it makes everything they did pointless. They're sentient, everything in their world is sentient, and we see things through their perspective. The stakes matter to them, so they're as real as any other character. That's like saying nothing in Toy Story or Wreck it Ralph matters just because the characters "aren't real"
@raogzero18428 жыл бұрын
It's one thing to introduce a twist, that has at least decent foreshadowing or is pretty explored. But up until you enter 4D space you had no idea the characters you were being was just all part of a simulation. It would be the same as if you was watching the new star wars and found out it was just a bunch of kids playing around in a after school club. It means every individual entry to the series also have all just been part of the charade, If there was clues that hinted at this, such as for example walls being fixed without anyone noticing or a character mysteriously vanishing and no one but say the main character remembering them it would be one thing. But pretty much this twist forces you to look at the whole franchise differently and re-evaluate their struggles.
@NepBeard8 жыл бұрын
Raog Zero Your Star Wars analogy doesn't work because in that instance, everything that happens was made up and goes away. In Star Ocean 3, the character's gain sentience and are actually able to directly confront their creators, an impossibility in your scenario. Everything in SO would be rendered moot if the characters all just turned out to be Player characters, but that isn't the case. They are genuinely sentient beings that actually live full lives and have their own experiences. The Star Ocean characters live and die by means unrelated to the 4D universe, 4D beings play no direct part in their lives. Additionally, we do not see the series through the perspective of the 4D beings. We see it through the 3D beings. Roddick, Rena, and Feight all had genuine struggles that no 4D being was going to step in and save them from. It's just like Toy Story. Woody and Buzz are chunks of plastic, but we care MUCH more about what they're going through than whatever Andy's problem is. If Woody failed to make it back, Andy would be sad for like, a day, and then move on, Woody would suffer for the rest of his existence, and that's the side most people are going to care about. So why should the existence of the 4D universe matter? If a character dies, a planet gets blown up, they're gone for good, and the 4D people won't even notice, but the characters the game actually revolves around will grieve just like any other living, sentient being. That's why I feel it doesn't matter. They're the characters we're meant to get invested in, and they're clearly sentient, that's really all that matters.

FFX is one of the BEST plot twist in games. BTW Auron is not a dream, he went to Tidu's Zanarkand ,after Yunalesca killed him and he became an unsend, to take care of Tidus and take him to Spira when the time came so he could bring the eternal calm.
@ricardoquezada1089 жыл бұрын
About #8, only Jecht and Tidus are dreams of the fayth. Auron is basically a ghost. See ten years before the start of the game Auron died trying to avenge Jecht and Braska, Yuna's father, and kept his sense of self by focusing on his anger and disgust about the Church of Yevon. Then he 'rode' SIN to the dream Zanarkand and looked after Tidus. Still stupid, but not as stupid as Auron isn't the only ghost to do this.

No... actually, the hope thing in God of War is drawn directly from the original Greek myths. It isn't just a cheap ploy to make him more likable, and it isn't even a twist for anyone who knows the myth of Pandora. It's expected from the moment they mention the box, and if it contained anything else, then *that* would have been a bad twist. So, I'm sorry, but that's simply incorrect. Read a book, guys.

How is Final Fantasy 10 on this list??? It was amazing!!!
@cainejw9 жыл бұрын
Pretty much an entire correction to the FFX section: Auron isn't a dream. He's an unsent Spiran. He actually lived in Spira and died on Spira. Because he was not sent by a summoner, he wandered the land. Had he been filled with hatred, he'd have become a fiend. Fiends are the things you fight the entire game. He died after fighting with Yunalesca, the first summoner to fall to Sin. She is the woman who started the Sin cycle where summoners would travel to Zanarkand, sacrifice a guardian to power their final summon, and die after Yu Yevon ripped the summon from their control. Tidus and Jecht are also not dreams. They are summons. They, and all of Zanarkand, are powered by the fayth of Gadgatzan. They are summoned by Yu Yevon who, from the center of his armored creature known as Sin, summons Zanarkand to preserve it somewhere in the world of Spira. The game opens with Jecht, who is the fayth of Braska's Final Aeon and the power that makes up Sin, attacking the summon, ripping Tidus from it, and dumping him on Spira. Tidus being part of that summon is exactly why he is a prime candidate for defeating Sin. He is not part of the cycle. He is external from it. The only reason he disappears in the end is because of the defeat of Yu Yevon. The summoner of the summon is now dead. There's no more summoned Zanarkand resulting in its dissipation and the fayth going dormant. FFX-2 mucks this up a bit, but you're focusing on X.

@kevintyson19479 жыл бұрын
I didn't really think that was a contradiction. It was more of a game play mechanic. Listening to Scott's real thoughts would've have completely ruin the mystery aspect of the game. It's the same as the clock store scene when he asks himself where Manfred went to. Plus in a couple of the endings it was alluded that he felt some guilt for all the boys that couldn't be saved so he could've mentally blocked out some thoughts
@SHODAN-TriOptimum9 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Tyson First of all, this is unjustifiable bullshit, even if it had compleatly ruined the game expirience. The entire game could have been one amzing fucking good story, but no, the creators decided to value one giant shit twist over a well crafted logical one. The only reason you don't see it comming is becouse this game lies to you druing the setup, as pathatic of a mechanic as possible in a game focused on story. And no, you could have easily set up scott s. as the killer, not give away his real thoughts , and still have a mystery thriller, without throing all kinds of logic out the window.

I agree with number 10. It was surprising, but only because they essentially lied to us to fool us in the first place. Especially considering the fact that he acted surprised even though he hadn't yet told the girl about what happened and there was no one else around to witness his reaction. Number 5, however, I disagree with. It's consistent with the Greek myth and it works for both the story and the character. It allowed Pandora's Box to be used as part of the story again without retreading the exact same thing that we saw in the first God of War, while also allowing for a character arc for Kratos, as we see him starting to actually care for Pandora (as he views her similar to his daughter) and her subsequent sacrifice wasn't in vain, despite what Kratos thought. If she hadn't done that, she wouldn't have been able to give him what he needed to defeat Zeus.

FFX wasn't bad, it had the Farplane, summoners duty to send the dead to the farplane or the dead will turn into monsters. The game was about summons to defeat Sin, which the Summons where also a "Dream". Whole game was about the dead still living / dreaming / faith. Also Auron actually died, he wasn't a dream from the summons/faiths but didn't pass on to the Farplane, in could go into the world that the faiths where dreaming.

the "it was all a dream" one also applies to Zelda: Link's Awakening & Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Other M has an even worse plot twist: Nintendo considers it cannon. a few others I hated: Kaos somehow escaped his Traptanium Trap between the events of Trap Team & Superchargers ( Skylanders ) Twist makes no sense, at least not unless you read a freaking comic book that sets up the beginning of Superchargers. Still dumb though, makes the whole trap thing seem pointless. ( granted, it happens at the START of the game but still... ) the convoluted time travel twist in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance resealing the Imprisoned doesn't last long ( Zelda: Skyward Sword ). Not only is this annoying as hell in general, but having to fight the worst boss battle in the universe 3 fucking times is just plain bullshit. And yes, it is sort of a plot twist... I mean it really only happens to serve the plot.

+Sonic Striker SpeedXzeed You're absolutely right: one of the reasons why Xenoblade Chronicles is my favorite game of all time, Shulk is my favorite character of all time and Mario is my most hated character of all time is because Xenoblade has a great story and great characters, and to me the perfect game is a game that focuses on story and characters, while gameplay is a secondary aspect, essentially an extension of books and films. Xenoblade is my favorite game ever because its story and characters are compelling enough to make me immersed, while Mario is the perfect antithesis of my perfect game as it doesn't give a shit about the story and characters and replaces them with SILENT PIECES OF POINTLESS, WORTHLESS, USELESS, MEANINGLESS SHIT THAT NINTENDO, BEING SO LAZY, THINKS OF THEM AS IMMERSIVE, BUT BOOKS AND FILMS ARE IMMERSIVE BECAUSE OF STORIES AND CHARACTERS, NOTBECAUSE OF SILENT TURDS LIKE CRONO AND MARIO, AND GAMES SHOULD BE THE SAME! You're a great person, Shulk is a great character and Xenoblade is a game so great that it immersed me at the point of leading me to tears TWICE, while Crono is a silent turd and Mario is my most hated game character of all time, and why? Because Nintendo made Crono and Mario as silhouettes to "immerse" the player, but Nintendo had never read books like Lord of the Rings, which are immersive just because their main character is not silent and the story is convoluted! Do ou agree with me? Which direction should games pick? Should an awful character like Mario, symbol of something fun but forgettable and without any artistic value, represent them or should they have Shulk as their symbol and be reborn as interactive storytelling, a form of art like novels or films? I play for the story and characters, something higher than just fun, and you?

+Vittorio Pugliese I prefer games with good stories but not every game needs one. At the end of the day, it's all generally just meant as entertainment in some form. Whether it's meant to have fun and addicting gameplay or a great story, it doesn't really matter in the end. Main form of entertainment that I would say always needs a great story are books as that's all there is to them. There's no visuals, sounds, etc. So all you have there is the story and characters. In movies I would say you can forego the story a little bit but the visuals and sounds don't really get you all that far if your story is total shit. I can't think of too many good movies that have next to no story. As far as games, there's quite a few that can be great without needing a story of any kind. Just depends what kind of games you are into really. Killing Floor 1 and 2, L4D2, Counter Strike, Sins of a Solar Empire, the Total War Series, Mount and Blade, and the X1-3 series. Those are all games that don't have much of anything for stories (The X series kind of does but not really, it's like Mount and Blade where you create your own story). That was just a quick list I made while looking at games on my Steam library. Most of those of pretty fun games (I think anyways). Now, granted some of them do have great lore and backstories, there is no actual story to them. Btw, Mario pretty much came out at a time when almost no game really had a story so it would be very wierd if they started to write really convoluted stories for his games now.

Iceman96051 There are many types of gamer. I'm more of a story-driven gamer for example, while you are not. In my opinion games are an evolution of movies and movies are an evolution of books. To me, just like the visuals and sound in a movie, the gameplay in a game is something added, but the "core" of a game is the story. And also Megaman X1, X2 and X3 have a story, only less dark than the Zero series's one.

Vittorio Pugliese Yeah to each their own, though I wasn't referring to Megaman. The X series is an indie space game that's on PC. It has backstory and good lore to it but it essentially has no actual story driven missions to follow. Most of my favorite games are story driven, I'm just saying not every game really needs to be. Same with music, most of my favorite songs are story driven (whether it's real or made up) but not every song needs to be.

I just hate how star ocean 3s plot twist affects the entire series going forward

It may have been said, but Auron wasn't a dream in FFX. He was an unsent who died after telling Kimahri to take Yuna to Besaid. Small slipup, I know.

Do the top 10 worst anime plot twists. And put Black Zetsu's BS at number 1.

The word "convoluted" is used too much in this video.

IMO, if you're going to do a list that is guaranteed to contain significant spoilers, list out the work titles in the description of the video. That way if someone sees a game they're still playing through on the list, they can just not watch at that time.

Scott Shelby being the origami killer is probably one of the greatest plot twists in any game. Also the hope being the only thing left in Pandora’s box is literally the story of Pandora’s box. So not so much a twist.

I didn't think the twist in FFX was that bad. It could have been explained better but the twist itself was pretty good. Plus Auron wasn't a dream he was an unsent
