This is most likely down to the youtube algorithm. If they say "Rape", or many other words including "Suicide", the video gets demonetised. It's lead to people using different language to get around it, such as "Unalive" instead of "Kill".

I’ve been confused by this. 1) why would the losing team get a better matchup in the tournament bracket? And 2) is it in the rules you can’t intentionally lose? I feel like throwing the match is a legitimate tactic if it helps you win gold. Tennis players aren’t forced to give 100% effort for every point, they often save their strength. @@jamesespey249 Dorando Pietri was disqualified for receiving assistance before the finish line. He arrived in the stadium staggering around and collapsed several times, and received medical attention and helped to his feet and guided around by a few dozen officials, police officers and people from the medical team. After the DQ, the gold was won by an American, the silver by a South African and the bronze by another American. There is a famous video on KZbin of the end of that marathon. There wasn't anything dirty about it, the Italian just received help when he shouldn't have, although it's clear he barely knew where he was. He was not, however, pulled across the line. For the 400m, only one American (John Carpenter) was disqualified, and that was for breaking a the rule on blocking that the Olympic committee has agreed to be used in the London Olympics (but apparently legal in America). That is Carpenter manoeuvred so as to block Wyndham Halswelle passing him. The judges ordered a re-run without John Carpenter, which the other two Americans boycotted it. I'm surprised two scandals from the 2004 Athens Olympics weren't featured. Firstly, before the opening ceremony, Katerina Thanou and training partner Konstantinos Kenteris failed to attend a mandatory drugs test, claiming to have been involved in a motorbike accident. However, this turned out to be untrue and the pair were suspended from the Greek team. Another one came from the Men's marathon. Brazilian athlete, Vanderlei de Lima, looked set to claim a historic gold medal for his country, but while he was heading towards the finish, the old Olympic stadium in Athens from 1896, the site of the first modern olympiad, mad Irish "Priest," Neil Horan, somehow managed to run on to the course of the marathon with 7km to go, dragging de Lima into the crowd, before a Greek member of the public in the crowd freed de Lima from Horan's clutches. The incident cost de Lima 10 seconds and ultimately he finished a bitter sweet third, picking up a bronze medal. Horan had been known to authorities for his questionable antics before that moment. For example, at the 2003 F1 British Grand Prix, while cars were racing at full speed, he ran towards cars travelling in excess of 160mph, causing the race to be neutralised with the deployment of the Safety Car, while Horan was dragged away by security

@jackturner2146 ай бұрын
Not examining Black September is kind of a cowardly cop out, because a significant part of the controversy was how the IOC just moved on during the games as though nothing had happened, barely acknowledging the human toll, and making the Olympic movement (rather than the Israeli athletes) to be the actual victims of the attack, and likening it to encroaching professionalism among the athletes; to this day, there has still been no official commemoration at the Olympics of the lives lost on the IOC's watch. Not discussing any part of it is both a missed opportunity and only perpetuates the harm done by Avery Brundage and Jacques Rogge, may their memories be blotted out.

I'm very glad Dujardin was kicked out of the Olympic team! She pretended that the filmed incident wasn't typical of her behaviour towards her horses, but if so, how on earth could she have done that even once? And just happened to be being videoed at that moment, by coincidence. Considering the adulation the media had given her on the past, it is also very telling that the remaining team still managed to win the gold medal, without her! 23 Greg Louganis-I think the bigger issue is the medical care he received pool side. IIRC he was sutured right there-doctor had no gloves on (big mistake no matter what) but Louganis should have shared his diagnosis for sure during that treatment.
@Tracymmo6 ай бұрын
Remember what it was like in the 80s. People's lives were destroyed just by disclosing their diagnosis. They lost jobs, kids were forced out of school (one family's house got burned down), were shunned by friends and family, were refused medical care, after death they were refused cremation and funeral services, and so much more. It's an easy choice from today's perspective, but not then.

Back in the early days of known HIV things like gloves wasn't thought to be totally necessary for most people. There were few infected, officially, and a lot of people thought that it only was the homosexual men who could get it. Sure the knowledge advanced quickly, but not everyone was believing that it was as serious as it really is. I remember that a friends mother was preaching about a disease that you could get by sharing needles for drugs, or by getting blood from others in wounds and so on. She said it was untreatable and could stay recessive for ten or twenty years. She was a nurse and was talking about this strange disease that no one really knew what it was. This was at least five years before the word AIDS was published in media. I wish I could remember when she started talking about it but at the time it wasn't anything you really thought was real. She had some very strange ideas that was no where near reality. So a disease that was lethal, never discussed and could hide for years before making you sick sounded like just another one of her fantasies.

Chlorine (in pool) kills bacteria & viruses: no worries.
@DawnDavidson6 ай бұрын
There was no risk to the doctor. Even at the time, medical and scientific professionals knew that HIV wasn’t spread by casual contact. HIV is much less transmissible than COVID-19. It’s true that a blood exposure is more serious, but it would take a lot more exposure than blood on intact skin. Transfusions could spread it, but that’s quite a lot of blood directly into the veins. Also, Louganis had a concussion. He wasn’t exactly in a position to mention it before he’d been given treatment, seeing as how he was unconscious. Later, the damage was already done, and the strong likelihood was that the doctors would be fine. And the literal blood in the water was too dilute as well as the water being highly chlorinated, which kills most pathogens.

A lot of these were just terribly covered but especially the 1972 basketball scandal- its pretty universally the most corrupt Olympic moment of all time, the last 3 seconds were replayed more than 5 times until one single time the USSR was the winner and they stopped, the final report noted at least 14 separate reasons the USA team was the winner under the actual rules. From camera footage showing everything the USSR coaches claimed turned out to be false to random Soviet officials coming out of the stands and overriding the game officials, to military members threatening the scorekeepers, it’s the worst moment in Olympic history
@newprophet20116 ай бұрын
Brushing over the drama of the 1972 Summer Olympics' Men Basketball final ignores how grievous FIBA screwed over the American team. They played the last three seconds three times, allowed the FIBA president to dictate gameplay (which is illegal), permitted an illegal player swap from the USSR, and basically instructed the US to lighten its guarding of the Soviet's star player. This was possibly the worst called basketball game in history. WatchMojo's summary of the game makes it sound like the US are just poor losers. This is a disservice to a key moment in the Cold War's sports drama.
