People who dislike the N64 controller are just people who cant handle something different. Yes the analogue stick wearing out was annoying but the pads design is fine and actually allows for a couple different styles of play. They always talk about the 3 handles straight up but then all that comes of it is that it looks a little different but functionally its fine

My hands aren't particularly large, but "the Duke" might be the controller I've found most comfortable to hold. The only problem I had with it is the button shape made my thumb raw. Smaller controllers cause hand pain when gripped for long gaming periods.

The N64controller was one of my favourites to use. To me, it fit my hands perfectly, and I had no problem reaching the buttons. The huge downside, though, was that they wore out too quickly,, especially since I shared them with my brother and sister. We soon played the you-know-what out of them, and went through about ten of them.

And coleco and intellevision was before companies knew how to make one controller for multiple games. The Wii was my childhood play toy ever since 2010, when I was 3. This was the thing that got me into gaming. I remember jamming out to Just Dance, Crushing Chaos in Skylanders, Destroying my brother in Mario Kart. This thing was my childhood. Sadly it broke about 6 months ago. That thing is broken. However my grandma still has one for when we come over so I sent all of our games and nunchucks and everything over. Also I think they should not have put the Wii remote on there. That thing was legendary in innovation and tech

I loved the wii. Still play it. I think the remote and nunchuck actually worked really well for lots of games and the single handedness was fun and interesting. The attachments for the later games added functionality while retaining the feel and it worked pretty exceptionally for the time. The Wii had so many games to choose from as well! The only other classic to me is the 360 controller but it works for entirely different sorts of games

Have to defend a few of these. The N64 controller was innovative and comfortable, if admittedly gimmicky. It and the Dreamcast controller also share the limitation of only having a single stick, but as an evolutionary step, I think they were both pretty good. The Wii remote was also great when developers played to its strengths, such as with the Metroid Prime games, but lazy developers just used waggle as a substitute for button presses. That's a software problem, not a failing of the controller. Finally while there are tons of negative things you could say about the Atari Jaguar, I think its controller gets a lot of undeserved hate. Yes, it's ugly, but it's way more comfortable than it looks and has a decent D-pad, though the short cord and loose plug are valid complaints.

Got a copy of Super Mario 3 really early. Still my favorite game to this day. You can see her old ass refrigerator in the beginning where she used to keep her cow magnets.

Yeah to be honest most of the N 64 games require you to use the control stick in the middle and the buttons on the right side so you don't necessarily have to use the buttons on the left side of the controller at all. if anything those were more optional buttons. Such an open and closing a minimap which isn't really something that needs to be done in the heat of the moment

The XBox S controller was not designed as an upgrade. The Duke controller was for the US and European players. Microsoft made the smaller controllers specifically for the Japanese market. Stating ... get this .... true story ... Japanese people have smaller hands than the people of the rest of the world. But Microsoft later found out that the Duke was just too big for everybody and the smaller controller became the standard pack in everywhere.

It's pretty clear to me that whoever put this list together didn't spend any significant, contemporaneous time with the N64 Controller or "The Duke". The original Xbox Controller didn't require huge Shaq-hands...indeed it was more comfortable than its replacement for someone in the medium to large men's bracket like myself. If memory serves me correctly, the change was mostly made because of complaints about the size from the Far East markets and from women (which is fair enough). There is also nothing particularly wrong with the Wiimote and Nunchuck. It felt a lot like two uncoupled sides of a GameCube Controller (one of the most celebrated controllers of all time)

I think the 5200 controller is worse than the power glove for two main reasons. One is as bad as the power glove is, it at least was meant to be a fun peripheral and not the main controller. The 5200 controller was not a peripheral but the main controller of the console. Two is that the power glove deserves some slack for being made by a third party company and not Nintendo itself. The 5200 controller was made by Atari, not a third party company, but by the main company.

The worst controller ever made was, is, and always will be the Nuby Quickshot QS-126 joypad for the NES. Billed as a "one-handed" alternative to the NES Control Pad, the giant completely smooth D-pad was unresponsive, the top mounted buttons were awkwardly positioned and difficult to press, and the ergonomically impossible "Start" and "Select" bar was virtually unreachable if you were holding it with one hand. Basically, it failed at the one thing that it was supposed to do, and was equally unpleasant if you tried to compensate by using two hands.

There was no need to reach all of the buttons at the same time on an N64 controller. Games that used the analog stick used the Z trigger, ones that used the D-pad used the L button. It is a perfectly fine controller.

The Atari Jaguar controller is actually quite good and comfortable to use even for long periods of time, so I disagree here. Try it and see. The 5200 joystick.. Due to its non-centering feature, it's great for some games the same way it's bad for some other. The poor build, or rather, quality of materials used is a different topic, though.

I know that what I'm about to talk about is a peripheral, not a controller, but I'm expanding on the Wiimote, already in your list. I'm talking about the Wii Zapper, the peripheral that lets you turn your Wiimote and Nunchuck into something resembling a gun. Every single game I have played that supports Wii Zapper forces you to use the Wiimote trigger. That's IMPOSSIBLY awkward for anybody who has even SEEN a long gun, let alone used one. Using the Nunchuck trigger would be much better, but yes, I get it, you would have to use the trigger with your index finger and the joystick with the thumb of the same hand, and that would again be impossible, but that's the complete ugliness of the Wii Zapper.

The N64 is the most important controller since the NES, and I friggin' LOVE the Intellivision controller (then again, it was my first console, and I actually understand how to use it).

I feel like they should've replaced the N64 Controller w/ the SNES Super Scope since it ate batteries, had a shorter lifespan & caused eye strain rather than the N64 controller which wasn't all that bad except for the control stick wearing out which took a long time & was fixable.

Im surprised that the Nintendo Switch controller isn't here, I mean, its not the worst one like all of these but sometimes its awkward to use when you use the smaller controller while playing Mario Kart or those types of games.

This list was all over the place. I disagree with putting any of the more recent controllers higher up. Xbox, Wii, N64 and Dreamcast all felt fine to use to me. Regardless, it was nice to see the history of controller monstrosities from the 80s-90s. 😂
