Exploatores They actually fixed half of a supermarket trolley to a wall inside the station so it looks like the front half had already gone THROUGH the wall. Many people have their photographs taken so it looks like they are pushing the trolley.

I have been to the Mansfield Reformatory (Shawshank Prison)...I went there for the special anniversary tour a few years ago. All the outside shots were filmed there, but the inside shots were all sets modeled after rooms in the actual reformatory. The building itself is pretty run-down on the inside. The walls are all peeling and a lot of the indoor office windows are missing glass. It was still really cool though!

I live nearby where the Sarlacc Pit scene in Return of the Jedi was filmed. Same area where parts of Spaceballs and Rambo III were filmed, too.

Archer City, Texas...The Last Picture Show and it's sequel Texasville were all filmed there. Although The Royal burned many years ago, the façade from the original theater exists, as well as many of the stores and houses used in filming on location.

You can visit Casa Lona in Toronto, Canada where they filmed the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters parts. Casa Loma has some history of its own as well and you can get in there faster using a CitiPass.

Some of the interior shots of the X-Men mansion in the first X-men film were filmed at Casa Loma in Toronto. One scene that comes to mind is the garage and stables scene. The place has actually been used for a variety of films. You can definitely visit it and take a tour!

I'm very glad they made the Shire permanent. For LOTR it had been build 'temporarily', but seeing how many wanted to visit it that they made it permanent was an excellent call for The Hobbit.

Just go to Ireland and take a "Movie Lover's Tour of Ireland". There are so many films that have been shot there and they are adding more and more. Highlights are the beach from Ryan's daughter, a different beach used for the opening battle of "Saving Private Ryan", the Cliffs of Moher which stood in for the Cliffs of Insanity in "The Princess Bride", a lot of the sets from "Braveheart", etc, etc, etc

You guys missed a really good one... The Quickstop from Clerks. I went there with my family this weekend. It's still exactly the same as it was in the movie. Fully functional convince store. Rst video next door is out of business but it still has the sign in the window. From there it's about 15 minutes to Jay and Silent Bob's secret stash where comicbook men is filmed. In the comic book racks are books autographed by Kevin Smith sold at cover price. I picked up two for $6. One the way you can stop at burger king which was the set for clerks 2 and eat at the outside tables. I didn't notice if they had a donkey show. We coordinated this trip with the walker stalker convention which is the walking dead con. Awesome awesome trip. Highly recommended.

Here's a fun fact about Tatooine: Now that people know Tatooine is an actual city, the word "Tatooine" means "The eyes" in the old native Tunisian language (Berber language), which had always left me wondering if the name was the inspiration behind the idea of the twin binary suns... Also Tunisia [t(y)oo-neez-zyah] itself is derived from Tūnis which means "The key" as it was always considered to be the key to North africa. I actually live not far from the hotel you mentioned, it's called Sidi Driss Hotel in Matmata, Gabes Tunisia, i consider it a holy place (like any true SW fan should) :)

Ever seen The Italian Job starring Michael Caine and Noel Coward? The prison scenes with Noel Coward are filmed in an old prison (Kilmainham Jail) in Dublin, Ireland. And there's a chase in that film across an industrial rooftop which is on the top of the FIAT factory in Turin, Italy.

Although there are not too much to see in Petra's temple. There is only a cuboid chamber inside the cliff, nothing more. No hidden paths or anything else. Usually there is a guard in the only gate, so you are not allowed to enter, just to make photos.

Actually, the Overlook "as written by Stephen King" does exist. Sort of. It's called the Stanley Hotel and it's actually in Colorado. It's where he got the inspiration for The Shining and it was used for the mini series.

+lauren dyet Assuming you're referring to the current program starring Benedict Cumberbatch, you can see the exterior of "221B Baker Street" on North Gower Street in London. I don't believe you can visit the set where the fictional flat's interior is located because that's only set up when filming (or so I was led to believe). Since _Torchwood_ isn't currently on the air, I doubt the interior of the Hub is still set up. However, you can visit the area that's above where the Hub was located (Mermaid Quay at Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, Wales).

The bates motel at universal now is actually a replica. The original one burnt down and is not in the original location. The set you see now is more of the set for the Bates Motel for the remake movie.
