Toddlers & Tiaras ruined a lot of lives, not just Alana and her family’s. The other one that comes to mind is always Kailia Posey. She was one of poster girls for the show (think the grinning meme from the show). She committed suicide before she was 16, and you cannot convince me that show had nothing to do with it.

I hated her. When they first started showing them on TLC, I thought she was too bossy, too harsh, and too freaking insane. She was so controlling. If any of the kids did something that screwed up her "schedule" she had a tantrum and more. I don't blame him for leaving her at all, she was horrid.

The model, Renee Alway had an abusive father that contributed to her insecurities which led to her substance abuse which caused her to prematurely age. She didn’t come in first and her confidence in her physical beauty crumbled. She refused to get a “normal” job for the sake of her children. From there, everything that happened was HER fault. Source: I lived in Palm Springs (the town she was arrested in) and knew the bartenders at the places she frequented. She’d get drunk and re-tell her history of abuse to them night after night. What her dad did to her is horrible but so is the way she neglected her kids as they’re the ones who have suffered the most.

I've never cared for "reality TV". It has a nasty habit of showcasing people with really lousy attitudes who are amping it up because they're on TV, whether or not the producers have told them to punch it up. Several programs that glorify the worst of humanity. These programs didn't cause their lives to collapse around them, they were simply a look at someone spiraling out of control.

Anybody remember that show The Swan? Where "ugly ducklings" were given intense plastic surgeries so they could be turned into beautiful swans? Would it surprise you to hear that almost every woman who went on that show came out of it with intense body dismorphia (to the point several of them can't even stand to go outside anymore), depression, and bipolar disorder, and ruined all of their relationships. That show, legitimately, ruined these womens' sense of self and self-worth.

For me Extreme Makeover pushed the boundaries way too far. This idiotic obsession with perfect beauty has to stop, there is NO SUCH THING! We've been married for 25+ years and I still melt when my wife wears her beat up pair of overalls, something every woman needs in her closet. Some of these people are victims, some were just asking for it. I limit myself to Hoarders because that's as close as I want to get. As for cameras in the home we don't even have Alexa and my wife learned long ago to tape over the camera in her "bring home from work" laptop. Too many "you look nice today" messages.

My issue with "reality" tv and celebrity culture is that people are willing to sacrifice their dignity and self-respect for potential fame and fortune. Sure, the "cast members" probably didnt envision things getting as bad as they did, but seriously, anyone wirh half a brain can tell that producers and networks make more money when ratings go up due to manufactured drama, so they will do whatever thwy have to to make it happen. I like my reality TV however, we have to remember that a lot of the stuff is scripted that the way the producers want it to make. It seem there was a whole story about this how I had a popular reality television show. Somebody was on it, and they turned her into a villain, and I don’t mind watching stuff like big brother, and what not, but like, what’s garbage is stuff like teen mom where it’s cool to be pregnant and be a teenager and yet it’s so glamorized that’s not OK it’s a overwhelming issue that should not be popular. 😢 when it comes to my reality shows I don’t like shows at focus on the fame and glamour. I like to focus on the shows that actually are doing an experiment.
