I loved “The Last Duel.” I thought it was extremely well-made and enjoyed watching all the subtle details in the stories, based on the perspectives of the main characters. I believe it had an important message to tell and did so in an effective way, as well. The fact that it was delayed during COVID and released when “The House of Gucci” was is part of what killed it, in my view.

@@vuraxis953 The Last Duel got marketing, but the problem was that the only trailers released (at least here in Canada) didn't say anything about what the plot was. It just advertised the stars to get people to see it. But, it doesn't matter how many known names are in it. Audiences want to know what the story is and no one saw it. If the marketing was better, then I think it would have done better.

The movie is divided into three perspectives. How is it a different perspective of each person when the dialogue was the same. From the point of view of the characters, every conversation and event should have been different, as nobody remembers the exact words and every character processes information differently. Imagine having three interpretations of the same event. But what we got is only a slightly different camera view.
@smoothALOE
@smoothALOE 29 күн бұрын
@@genki2705 that’s not completely true. As I recall, there were more than just minor camera angle variations. Specific, important details were diametrically different and there were some spoken details that changed, as well. I’d suggest rewatching it, but I also have to admit that I didn’t like it as much the second time around, either.

I feel sorry for Maddie Ziegler the most. She was only 14 when she took the role of Music, and she broke down on set because she was worried that the Autistic Community would think that she was making fun of them. Sia should have known better than to put Maddie into an awkward position like this.

"I Am Sam" was Sean Penn's attempt to win an Oscar, and part of the joke in "Tropic Thunder." I don't know if anyone remembers "The Doctor" with William Hurt from 1991 but that sticks out in my mind as Oscar bait. @BroAnarchy Sia was repeatedly trying to justify why she made, lied when asked why she didn't cast someone on the spectrum when she said she did but the girl was non-verbal and wasn't happy on set (or the girl couldn't handle it I don't know which) and that was why she casted Maddie Ziegler as one of the main characters when she previously said numerous times that she doesn't want to do a project without Maddie and that she specifically came up with the role of Music with Maddie in mind as the character. All throughout the movie the girl is making faces and noises that come across as mocking someone with autism, Maddie was even afraid of this happening while filming and didn't want to do it but Sia got her to do it anyway and then Maddie was right. Music is like one of the worst movies that shows about autism in a bad horrid way. You're better off finding a better movie that tells about autism in a good, understanding way. I have seen KZbin videos and Twitter posts about why Music is God awful and I truly understand it big time. Autism isn't a disease, it's a disability that many people have, including me.

"Amsterdam" didn't earn back it's budget. The film shoot had to move location from Boston to L.A. at the height of Covid. Which added $30 million to the budget.

I love the last duel, should have been given more attention. Also why are so many of these movies from the last 10 years. Oscar bait movies have been around for along time so if your list is titled “of all time” you should be more considerate of your selections.

It was weird when Ridley Scott blamed millennials for the film's failure, though. It really didn't help that it just happened to come out around the time and just after films like Shang-Chi and Halloween Kills, which isn't Scott's fault but rather the fault of the studio and the marketing teams.

I also enjoyed the Last Duel. Unfortunately it was released in middle of COVID-19 and there were still restrictions in some places. I also want to point out that the oldest film on the list is Alexander which came out in 2004.

You missed "The Judge" starring Robert Downey Jr and Robert Duvall. That movie tries too hard to win an Academy Award by stuffing too many Oscar bait tropes in one film. It tries to be dramatic but it comes out comical and predictable.

I didn't know a remake was done of Rebecca. I wish I still didn't. Rebecca (1940) directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine is a gothic classic better left alone. And Judith Anderson as Mrs. Danvers is unforgettable. This is one of my favorite movie's that I watch again and again. Remaking Rebecca is like if someone actually tried to remake Gone With the Wind. You (Hollywood) should know better than to mess with perfection.

It’s not a remake of the Hitchcock film. It’s a new movie based on the book. Sort of. The book is one of my all time favorites & it diverged in many significant way. As does the Hitchcock, but that was mostly due to the strict film codes where if someone commits a crime, they must be punished. I don’t like it, but I’ll forgive it. The new one made changes that were so out of character for the main character, it was ridiculous. Super fail.
