@lexkanyima2195 The Beatles in the UK had their first hits in 1963. I heard them on my parents' Bush Valve Radio along with other music from that era...so yes. I didn't have a record player until my late teens, when I brought secondhand Beatles singles and new pressing of their albums. My late father gave me a copy of the White Album for Christmas, when I was eighteen and had passed my exams and got into college. I often got Beatles books off my late parents for birthdays and Christmas.

Kroq here in LA started as a new wave station would do these countdowns of the top band. I can't remember who came in first place but the top British band was Depeche Mode. Classic Rock stations over 20 years ago would have the Beatles ranked at number 1.

The only problem i see is that many of the blues rock fans who like Led Zeppelin, deep purple, Black Sabbath etc. have an issue with a band who released singles and promo videos, had massive choir harmonies and transitioned into the 80s and 90s i might add, better than bands who in the 80s were either broken up or still playing smoke on the water while Queen were playing Radio Ga Ga. Their ability to play multiple styles and move with the times sealed it for them that they would be huge with future young generations.

I´ve got a lot of thoughts about Queen and music in general and it's kinda difficult to explain them. Besides, English isn´t my first language, so I might struggle a bit with fully explaining the reasons why I don't like Queen. At first I'll admit that Queen is one of the best bands that have ever existed. For me there's always been a clear top 5. The Beatles (who to me are the greatest band that have ever existed), Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin (two bands with extremely talented musicians that have written some of the most insane songs in rock history imo), The Rolling Stones (maybe less talented than the other 4 bands, but the amount of hits and their superstardom kinda speak for themselves). Queen belongs in that category imo. So yeah I do really see their talent and I really do get the appeal. There's just a few things about them that really annoy me. First of all there's a big radio station here in the Netherlands, which organises a Top 2000 at the end of every year. It starts at midnight on christmas day and it ends two minutes before the new year starts. It's a really popular list where people can vote on their 35 favourite songs and it's been something I grew up on and I got to know a lot of cool music on it as a kid as well. But the last couple of years, a lot of DJs that present the list and just a lot of people around it have been kinda obsessing over Queen. There's just so much music in the world and Queen gets so much attention from them. Since the whole list is a popularity contest I'm already missing some of my favourite bands like Royal Blood, IDLES and Fontaines D.C which I totally get, but also a lot of older acts that I really love aren't in this list anymore. Think of bands like Steely Dan for example. It doesn't help when the amount of Queen songs in that list keeps growing every year. It made me just not want to listen to that list anymore, while it has been something I grew up loving. I think the movie from a few years ago has played a part in it as well. People around me suddenly became like an almost obsessed queen fan while beforehand they knew like 3 songs or something. Idk it might just be me but they're like the hardest band to avoid and I've heard a lot of stuff way too often for me to still enjoy it. Another reason why I don't like it though is that I don't really like a lot of bombastic, over the top rock music. A good example of what I mean is the whole 80s glam metal scene. Vocals from people trying really hard to sound like a good singer, with often a really good and clean production. It's an insult to compare Queen to that whole music scene, but I do feel certain elements that are similar, like that it's all very clean and well-made. Idk I really like imperfections in rock music. I like it if it's a bit dirty. It just feels more honest to me. I feel so much more emotion coming from the artists. I know I'm a minority in this, but I just don't feel any emotions coming through while listening to Queen. It doesn't feel honest to me. So yeah again sorry for this insanely long comment, and sorry if you still don't really understand my points, because sometimes I don't really understand them either😂 It's really hard for me to explain how I think about them. Let's say that there's just something about them😂

I also do agree that there are a lot of bands out there who deserve a mention and a shot at the spotlight. I am one of those who became instantly obsessed with Queen but for me it happened with Wayne’s World’s inclusion of Bohemian Rhapsody. Keeping in mind that by 1992, Queen were finished as a band so what did i do? I bought every album, video they ever made. Idk what it is about them but they have something that either grabs you or it doesn’t, but if it does grab you tho, it’s full steam ahead, no half ways. I will also like to add that to me The Beatles are also the greatest rock band of all time and i can never get tired of them either lol 😂. Oddly enough, those are the two biggest and most popular bands lately. By the way thank you for Van Halen, the brothers are from the Netherlands. Rock on 🤘

@@srirahulpremkumar1600 Objectively, there are several bands whose best can beat the Beatles' worst, but as a whole, yeah, the Beatles set the bar. Floyd, ELO and Moody Blues have come the closest, in my opinion. And maybe Supertramp, Rush and Yes.
