It depends on the person. Personally I think everyone is a hypocrite when it comes to comedy. I have a religious friend who's fine with racist jokes and homophobic jokes but if you make fun of Jesus he'll lose his mind. Everyone thinks certain things should be protected from being made fun of but what people think those things are varies from person to person. And it's all because of personal biases and subjective morality. But if you ask me, good comedy punches up. Not down. Blazing Saddles is kind of punching down. There are better ways to do parody and satire without reaching for the lowest hanging fruit along the way.

I've been watching SNL since it debuted in 1975. I remember most of these sketches. They were all on target, and that is probably why some people were upset. There is a reason that they were called "The Not Ready for Prime Time Players". Or as Robert Klein said when he was guest hosting during the first season, "Prime Time is not ready for them!" SNL has toned down over the years, but is still a good place to find some smart satire, especially if you aren't easily offended.

Stop pandering to the weak minded individuals who are in the minority, not the majority! 🤦‍♂👍😎✌🗽

. "DEAD honky!" was the funniest single line ever spoken on SNL. It was all downhill from there. When snowflakes lost the ability to look at themselves, feel a little self-conscious, and have a laugh at the _universality_ of how _so_ _many_ _things_ about Human Beans are a little hilarious, they went and killed comedy. Fuck 'em...

The idea that if there is a God he has a favorite team is a joke and the Big Guy certainly didn't help Tim Tebow out during his epic career. Freedom of religion may be a right, just keep it to yourself. Still waiting for a Muslim high school player to whip out his prayer mat after a 99 yard punt return and get booed of the field. It's freedom for all or not at all, pick one.

Sadly SNL used to BE controversial. Not partisan, not politically correct or virtue signaling, not pandering, no one was safe from parody. Sad that what used to be the rule is not a notable exception when it occurs. Also, I notice they list Robert Smigel's 'Bambi 2' but not the much darker 'Disney Vault' skit. Cowards.

"if the roles had been reversed" criticisms almost always rub me the wrong way because they're almost always a way to silence marginalized people from speaking out against the ways they're marginalized. the whole point of the teacher-student affair skit is that THAT IS HOW PEOPLE ACTUALLY REACT TO THOSE SITUATIONS. when a grown man sleeps with an underage girl it's horrifying, and rightly so, so why is it when a grown woman sleeps with an underage boy it's all "YOU DA MAN, DAWG! GET SOME! WHAT A GIGACHAD!"? women are beaten and murdered every day and no one cares until a late night sketch comedy show depicts ONE woman (justifiably) beating up ONE man. both examples just smack of misogyny, the first in suggesting that women of any age are conquests for men and the latter in denying women our agency, our strength, our righteous fury, as if to say "i can beat the shit out of you all i want, don't even try to joke about beating the shit out of me in retaliation because your job is to shut up and take it."

It should have been a criticism of the double standard, but was it? Or did it just reinforce the double standard? I literally had a relative block me on Facebook for trying to convince him that female teachers should experience consequences for abusing their male students. He was convinced that it wasn’t as harmful to boys.
