Most theories are rendered pointless when you realize/remember that we already know what is going to happen. The Dance of Dragons, aka the Targaryen Civil War, is laid out in the book Fire & Blood. Since they already have the entire story, they're not gonna change too many major points. The only new stuff in the show is altered ages and more in-depth character development.

The book Fire & Blood is written from the perspective of a Historian and a Court Jester. We have a very textbook account of events with a mingling of rumor and intrigue. That is Far from an accurate account of events. History is written by the victor, so there may be a lot to the story that was either never written about or omitted on threats of death. The story could go quite a ways to deviate from the "Official Accounts and Rumor-Mongering."

It felt like watching a theory video for LOTD after the release of Fellowship and having people suggest 'Gandalf isn't really dead' or 'Is Aragorn Boromir long lost brother'.

Niceee so im a normie who didnt read any of the books i just liked the GoT series from the show. So far ive liked HoD and so in anticipation for next weeks episode it made me want to rewatch GoT. Well i picked season 5 and in the last episode Stannis’ daughter(RIP) talks to Davos about her reading “Dance of Dragons” and mentions Rhaenyra so i was wondering if that was the story we are watching. This comment confirms it! This all happened today so i thought it was cool. Should i just read the book or will it be better to watch it unfold in the series?

its actually more plausible that Viserys & Danearys didnt know about Aegons dream. King Viserys told Rheanyra that it was passed down from king to heir, not father to child. The Mad King & Rheagar definitely would have known, but it would have died with them in the Red Keep & Ruby Ford respectively, as neither had a chance to pass it down to young Viserys before he had to flee to Essos (after Rheagar, he was the Heir, so he would have been the only living character at the start of GoT that in theory could have known if Aerys had had time to tell him, and even if he actually did know, it died with him in Vaes Dothrak as he definitely did not tell Dany because he never considered her to be in line for the throne at all).

Question is how did he even know. Maegor wasn't the heir he usurped the throne from aegon 1.5 who could have learnt from aenys but it was his brother jaeherys who took throne. How did jaeherys learn about the dream

@@arunsingla3452 Honestly, given that Meagor was Aegon the Conquerors son, it's possible that he knew about it because Aegon told both his sons, and told them to do the same. Aenys would have told Aegon, who died at the hands of Meagor, and Jahearys would eventually be king. Viserys (the first one, not the king) never had children, nor did Meagor. And Aegon only had daughters who wouldn't carry on the Targaryen name so they wouldn't have been told, and then perhaps Jahearys thought it was something about the prophecy that made Meagor go so dark, so he made the decision to only pass it to the Heirs and not just through the family, explaining why only King Viserys knows at this point and not Deamon for example.

We do know that Rhaegar knew about the prophecy because we know Rhaegar believed one of his children would be Azor Ahai ( The price that was promised )

Actually viserys was not the heir. If the son of the king dies, the throne passes to the son of the son, before it passes to the princes brother. So the real heir was Rhaegar's first son who was Aegon Targaryen. Of course Viserys would be the heir after the mountain smashed Aegon's head in if it werent for Jon, but either way Aerys was already dead by then.

What I love about this show so far is that it is supposed to be what "really" happened. The book is told as a history book with unreliable sources. This can explain away any major changes to the story.

Yeah.. that's why even if ihv read the book, it doesn't feel like watching a adaptation, cuz i don't know what's exactly going to happen. There were at least three versions for every event in the book and sometimes more, here we get to see the writers' take on which one of them is true, and cuz GRRM is also writing this, I ll take it as the canon. #7 "Greyscale" - From Blood & Fire, Viserys pricked his finger on the throne, he got sepsis and ended up having to cut off 2 fingers. So i assume the back cuts are also from the swords on the throne, not greyscale.

8:47 The reason aegon could have predicted things like that is because he would have seen Daenerys fighting the white walkers with drogon. As for viserys and daenerys not knowing about the song of ice and fire prophecy, this is easily explained. Viserys and his pregnant mother fled to dragonstone at the age of 8 and he was not the heir at the time (that being Rhaegar's first son, also called Aegon). Daenerys was born after Aerys died. Neither of them would know about the song of ice and fire if it was only passed king to heir. If you ask me, the main problem is how the succession of the targaryens happened. Between the dance of dragons, the invasion of dorne, Baelor the blessed, The blackfyres, the passage of the throne from daeron the good to Aerys the first, from him to his brother Maekar, and from him to Aegon the unlikely, I think there are far too many succession crises' in house targaryen to maintain this secret.

8:35 I think it's more likely that Dany and Viserys didn't know about the prophecy. The song of ice and fire is only passed onto the heir from the king, and so if it was passed down(who knows exactly how mad the Mad King was) itvmust have been to Rhaegar, who was the heir being the eldest child. And he would have passed this to his son eventually, but his sudden death even prevented him from passing it down to Viserys. And Dany was just born.

Well Joffrey said to Margery in the crypt that Queen Rhynera (sp?) was eaten by her brothers dragon in front of her son. They fought for the throne and it was called Dance of the Dragons. Princess Shireen was reading the book and briefly talked about it to Ser Davos. Spoiler for non book readers.

Aegon's dream was passed down from King to heir so 2nd sons like Daemon & Viserys wouldn't know unless they became heir. The dream/secret made it down to Rheagar so the mad king Aneys must've told him before he went mad. My prediction Rheanyra will pass the secret to her last living son by the end of the dance

There are some dumb theories, No it's not retcon to season 7&8, both them seasons happened so people need to get over it now. The injuries to Viserys are not grey scale or incest related it simply infections from cuts from the Iron throne if you're looking for more he is a weak King getting cut because he is too cosey on throne. It's a prequel to books & not the show wtf, why does it use same opening theme if distancing itself from show the only theory that holds up is number the hand is most likely first big bad but every member on small council are out for themselves with an agenda they see a king who is easy to manipulate.

Stick in a little hint that the dragons imprint on one person and on very rare occasion it have been known of dragons carrying off their dead to an unknown location and somehow have them brought back to life. There's no RETCON, this is a stand alone prequel GRRM said so. HOTD only further develops the lore, not change it. GOT is done and made, the only way they can do something to it is with the spinoff Snow, if that has a decent story and ending, maybe it can better explain what went down in GOT's ending, since Snow is a continuation of GOT focused on Jon Snow's journey. PLUS those things in the video can't be considered as theories if they are literally taken from the book's plot points.

I am surprised we don't pay more attention to the maesters as I bet it will pay off. Sam I'm hoping in the books or future shows uncover this. Explains a ton of things really like the cure for grayscale. Aemon Targaryen at the wall is another major spot often overlooked. Maesters will probably be the grand finale as they keep the history and I'm thinking super tied to the faceless men.

Viserys was cut by the iron throne. The iron throne cuts those it sees unworthy to sit on it. It cut his back, and his fingers and led to infection. He isn't the only one whos been wonded by the throne.

Viserys never told Aegon the prophecy, that's why Dany and Viserys don't know about the prophecy centuries later. Additionally, Aegon's successor is too young to be able to understand the prophecy (if you know, you know).

Daenerys and Viserys wouldn't have known about the the Song of Ice and Fire prophecy. The way I understood it, that information only passes from one ruler to the next. And that would make sense why neither of them knew about it. Rhagar knew though, he was actively trying to create the prince who was promised because he believed the prophecy.

We might need a new video for this. But from my point of view, Otto did start all this, since he both suggested Rhaenyra be the heir instead of Daemon, and he offered his daughter as the new queen. This would make for a few children, likely some boys, that would oppose Rhaenyra when the time comes, and he would support his grandchildren, and thus wipe out the pure bloodline of house Targaryen.

I feel like the prophecy did come true just not the way the thought. They needed them to know the prophecy so dany would follow it and she would do all she could to hatch her dragons and then John snow needed to hear it so he would fight in the war and if he fought then aria fought so I do think it needed both of them

I think Viserys knew of the vision/legend/warning and Daenerys didn't know. But Viserys was killed before he could share it with Daenerys (not that he had any intent of doing so, as he thought of himself as the king-to-be/heir, which was technically true... - and this was/is to be shared only from ruler to heir). Besides that: Even IF Viserys knew, I doubt that he believed "the old tale". As for "a Targaryen must be seated on the iron throne": From the Targaryen point of view, this has two meanings and goals: 1) Keep the family in power. 2) We are the keepers/riders/controllers of the dragons. And if there's a "cold front" coming from the north, then our dragons (meaning their fire) are the only chance we have. There's most likely even a third part: Back then Valyrian steel was comparatively common in the world - and probably a "default" weapons material within the family. And it was most likely part of the vision, that Valyrian steel will play a vital role in the [final] battle. It makes sense that, over the centuries, the warning was shared, but the context was lost (on purpose or not). Most likely because the Kings weren't keen on sharing the details - in case "word got out". Because the details meant the following: 1) You don't need a Targaryen on the throne. Technically all you need is someone who can control the dragons. Granted, this isn't easy. And having Targaryens control the dragons is the comparatively easiest way. But there could've also been ways of "controling the Targaryens", as puppets of sorts. Though I doubt that it couldn't have been accomplished within the several centuries, to find others and other ways of controlling the dragons - which is why this detail was not mentioned. 2) If Valyrian steel is as important as the dragons, then this details had to be lost as well, as it meant that you don't need the Targaryens or their dragons, as long as you had enough weapons of Valyrian steel. Sure... it's a lot harder without any dragons, but it's still possible. So all of this makes total sense and doesn't redcon anything - as long as "House of the Dragon" doesn't change the vision too much.

Just a note about the Song of Fire and Ice, Danny was not the only Targaryen involved in the war against the dead in GOT. Jon was also half Targaryen and he was the heir to the throne as his father, Rhaegar Targaryen, was the first born son of the Mad King. He had the stronger claim as the rightful heir to the iron throne. Also on whether or not Daenerys and her surviving brother Viserys knew about the family “secret”, in the House of the Dragon they clearly state that this info was passed from ruler to heir. Neither of them was the expected heir to the iron throne. Their older brother, Rhaegar (Jon Snow’s father) was heir and he already had two children with his first wife Elia Martell. So his son was the expected heir. When the war waged by Robert Baratheon ended with his death, the secret about the war against the dead effectively died with him.

Viserys doesn't have grayscale. The swords were melted with dragon fire. Dragon fire is toxic, you might even say radioactive. He keeps cutting himself on the throne, and that metal is poisoned by dragon fire. That's why the wounds aren't healing. Grayscale has been around at least as long as the doom of Valyria. The maesters would know it if they saw it. Also this is a subtle nod that Viserys isn't meant to be on the throne, because he can't sit on it properly.

Retcons no, George RR Martin wrote his books somewhat based on human history and what's more human then an unreliable narrator. Meaning the history of Westeros is purposefully written from different point of views, which results in things not always happening as they seem. Who ever writes the history books gets to tell their story.

Retconning S7 & S8 does not need to happen. Everything that happened was foreshadowed from S1 Ep1. Daenerys was always going to go mad. Jon only ever wanted to be a ranger north of the wall like his uncle. Arya was always going to be the one to kill the Night King. People complain that Bran should've told people what was going to happen but it's no different to Dr Strange not telling anyone until the time was right. People are just butthurt the show didn't go the way they wanted it to and can't accept it. Those people need to get the fuck over themselves. It's been 3 years. Time to let it go.

Hightower one if true didn't end well for him did it. One of his grandson removed him from his position because of his lack of knowledge about the other houses as he puts it and the other turns a political dispute into all out war and got away with it because his older grandson unlike other members of the family was stupid and didn't realise consequences of those actions which were shown immediately when daemon sent assassins to kill his grandson's heir at which they succeeded. Not to forget by the end of the war his grandson started, only his daughter and great granddaughter survived, with said great granddaughter committing suicide six months after the war ending otto's line.

**SPOILER, ALSO ON GAME OF THRONES** I think that prophecy was passed like the monarchy: Viserys only told the song of ice and fire to Rhaenyra when she became the official heir. But after the rebellion, the dynasty changed, and even though Aerys told Rhaegar (or maybe he was waiting for the right time and the madness thing happened), this secret would have been extinct. However I believe Samwell is just an overly-poetic guy and it can be just a coincidence hahaha (or maybe he came across the name while researching for the grayscale treatment in Citadel, but forgot because it had nothing to do with his issue :o)

Aerys didn't tell Rhaegar, Rhaegar only found out about the prophecy by reading about it. "People in his father's court even jest sourly that he was the coming of Baelor the Blessed again.
