It didn't seem like the pole was based on national anthems, more like "Top 10 powerful countries in random order". I thought it was going to be based on beautifulness, proudness and tradition, and in that case Italy,Brazil, United Kingdom, France and Russia were the only ones who could have fit in. Where are countries like Spain, New Zealand, and Scandinavian countries. Spain for example has no text but beautiful melody, New Zealand has alot of tradition and a beautiful anthem, and Scandinavic countries in general have some of the most unique and traditional celebrations, at least Norway and Sweden.

It's subjective as is all music, but it's certainly possible to subjectively judge a national anthem based on it's message, the lyrics, it's composition, and how well it fits the country it represents.

@@jeusisking5911 I'm also Brazilian and love our National Song. But being fair, considering of lyrics New Zealand is really beautiful for many reasons. Our Brazilian National Anthem is too long and honestly the lyrics are kind of hard to comprehend. If I ever being asked what the lyrics say, I mean attempting to roughly translate it into English language for instance, that would be a chalenging task. On the other hand, considering the music arrangement itself 'La Marseilase' is beautificul. But with due respect to my French mates, the lyrics sound not as good, one may check it. My opinion, there might be disagreements

Mithun Kumar of course you can rank anthems, objectively : they just are songs with a story. You can rank songs, you can rank stories (=> movies), so you can rank anthems, if it's just based on the melodies and the story behind. As a french, I would have put US #1 and Russian #2 for the melodies, and put south africa #1 for the story (and maybe others, I don't know all of the anthems). Not every body is a pathetic patriot..

I'm only Italian-American, but the Italian anthem is my favorite. It's just so rousing and powerful. If I was fluent in Italian, it would also sound pretty fun to sing. I'm also the type of person who will pretend to conduct it (it also helps that it's in 4/4 time, my favorite time signature). The French, Russian, and Japanese national anthems are some of my other favorites, though they don't top Italy's.

Relation between Russia and "brothely nation" was more occupation or annexation than brotherhood and it's not better nowadays, mentality of Russian goverment isn't much different than mentality of Bolsheviks and Soviets.

+Pacifica Northwest wait, are you serious? Bad economy is good reason to causing a war? And it's funny when you are saying "regain there land that they once had", what lands? They wanted to regain lands they took from other nations by force years before WW1, but after Germany lost WW1 those lands back to rightful owners, lands which Germans have stolen. There was many nations in central Europe, Germans, Russians and Austrians made an agreement between theirselves an took lands belonged to those nations, many things happend and WW1 was happend and those tree powerfull countries/empires lost what they stole. Long story short, Germans stole some lands, rightful owners regain it, but Germans still considered those land as their possession. It was causing of Nazism in Germany, same story with Bolshevism in Russia. I don't know how it's justifying causing WW2 by Germans. I agree that today Germans are one of the most peacefull nation in a world, but ironically their kindness toward "refuges" could be as bad for Europe as WW2. I don't blame Germans for WW2, i mean i do, but not Germans who lives today. It's time for Germans to forget the past and look at situation soberly, without WW2 context.
