@@rcisneros310 Whitney, when she did the national anthem, which was the greatest national anthem that we ever heard, what we heard over the air was prerecorded. The reason it was prerecorded was, that was a moment that no one wanted any mistakes. They didn't want any feedback, they didn't want any technical difficulties ... and it was great. There are so many logistics to overcome in a live performance in a venue like that. For one, the background noise of the crowd. This is actually standard practice for events like this. The producers years ago started asking to hear the anthem tracks a week before airtime, just so they would have one less potential variable. Look it up.

I hope you're not an American or living in the states. Imagine you're out on a ship battling and they're bombing the city to hell... You can't do anything about it and don't know if everyone is dead. The smoke clears and you see they haven't taken the flag, somehow, they made it through that hell. I guess you've never served or worried about someone getting power, after living through war, taking everything you own and telling you your history is dead from this point and you're subjects of a new power. Some countries have been through that a lot, but this young country hadn't. One day, hopefully not for the wrong reasons, when it's too late, you'll realize what it means and why you should keep it.
@richardbourton45232 жыл бұрын
@@emeraldisle8406 any other reasons aside, when the poem was first put to music it was well known for being a tune with an uncomfortably wide vocal range. The reason the great performances are so widely celebrated is because it’s such a hard song to perform or at least to perform well (not just Fergie’s iconically odd jazzy performance but just normal people at everyday events etc). For most people, the range is too wide to sing either the start or the end comfortably which is not good for an anthem and it’s not wrong to realise that. This is not unique to that song, Happy Birthday has that third line octave leap that often makes people strain a bit and that’s obviously sung all the time, even if a less dramatic interval would probably be better for everyone. I’m not American, but I think Whitney’s version is indeed incredible (my fav version is the all state Kentucky choir rendition), but as songs go, the tune itself is not ideal. The words are also not the easiest to remember when singing alone, with the enjambment of the lines making each clause not really lead on from the other that obviously and the long lines obscuring the rhyming scheme a bit. Apparently there have been multiple attempts to get the USA’s national anthem switched to something more people could sing well, as that might make it easier to participate and so function better as a song to bring everyone patriotically together, but every time has failed and the star spangled banner has stuck. When it’s sung well though, it is a good song and changing it at this point to America the Beautiful or whatever would never catch on.

No one can sing like "Whitney Houston" and top her performance ever. However, now the one I must admit is "Jennifer Hudson" does a great performance next to Whitney! No one else in my opinion could do justice to "The Star Spangle."

I think that the reason Whitney's rendition is and will probably always be the best is because it's obvious that 1) it was effortless for her and 2) you can see and hear her pure joy

Lisa, I agree Whitney sang it the best ever. But please understand - the anthem was meant to be sung by patriots. If your heart is in it - your rendition is how it was meant to be sung. But if you want it sung musically perfect and flawlessly heart felt by a patriot - listen to Whitney.

I haven't seen this yet. I'll watch it for sure, but making my prediction before I see it. My guess is Whitney Houston will be #1. A lil tidbit for that- a week or 2 before, the NHL played their All Star game in Chicago. Chicago Stadium was known for an epic Star Spangled Banner. The crowd at Chicago Stadium set the tone for the Super Bowl. I mean that in terms of how the crowd responded. Whitney is a great singer, and was going to be great no matter what. If the NHL All Star Game National Anthem didn't make this list, it's well worth looking it up and listening to it. Very emotional and riveting.

You forgot Sandi Patty’s version. You only heard her voice for the rededication of the Statue of Liberty celebration. Her voice and her version was so magnificent that the switchboard at ABC was flooded by inquiries. She appeared on Johnny Carson‘s Tonight Show just a few days later.

Whitney Houston had a peerless, poised and seemingly effortless power. She had soul, too, which helps. Whitney was so good, in fact, that some thought she may have mimed. She didn't. For the naysayers, she performed it again for the troops. Houston really went next level and set the bar. Nobody since has even come close.

While I totally agree with Whitney Houston being #1, I think Lady Gagas rendition should've been #2 & Beyonce should've been moved down a few notches. Her voice was so clear, so crisp, it literally gave me goosebumps watching in real-time & in this video. But Whitney's rendition always brings me ro tears. Also maybe because my dad was in the gulf for the Gulf War during that time, it makes it a little more special & hits a little closer to home in a way.
