I never knew who Miriam was until Graham Norton, then realized she was on Harry Potter. Maybe sometimes she needs to rein it in but most of the time find her hilarious, witty, intelligent and how many funny stories she could share on her life. she is my favourite guest on Graham Norton show. I find so many are offended at everything, yes at times she is out there as she plays innocent with the soldier story but overall she is hilarious

"…your breath smells." The celebrated 18th century literary genius, Dr. Samuel Johnson, was travelling on a long journey in a small coach at close quarters. He was travelling with a woman passenger who occupied the seat facing him. 18th century commercial ground transport was, at best, physical torture. Dr. Johnson was an unusually large, corpulent man (over 6 feet and obese). He neglected his personal hygiene far beyond the era's primitive, minimal standards. -Even Boswell noted this. The woman sharing the small coach with Dr. Johnson, finally complained, "YOU, sir, SMELL!" Dr. Johnson quickly replied, "NO, madame. YOU smell. …I STINK." The disagreeable, ugly confrontations in this video have a single common fault. NONE of them offer ANY redeeming qualities. Not one example offers us anything approaching a useful lesson or moral statement. The T.V. hosts are all desperately trying to provoke their guests so as to entertain the lesser angels of the lowest qualities of human nature. I am shocked that not ONE victim seemed to suspect that they were being exploited for a despicable purpose; -thoroughly removed from the language or physical act used to enrage them. A despicable purpose to which many viewers were immediately wise? Am I making the mistake of NOT underestimating the intelligence of the modern human? Was Darwin simply wrong? If so, I stand embarrassed. -Embarrassed for the human species as much as for myself. In centuries to come, historians will NOT be able to extract from this depressing video display, even a modest witty grammar lesson, -as afforded by the above anecdote recorded by Dr. Johnson's faithful biographer, James Boswell. Most people likely believe that our present times will provide future historians with great discoveries and wisdom worthy of attention, study and significant conclusion. NO! Despite our fantastic technology that can digitally record events previously hidden from historians, I believe it likely that this era will serve only to further dumb-down the human species. E.g., is the new music of today truly better than the music from the era that discovered and improved primitive analogue recording science? Will Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story or Gershwin's Preludes be even slightly diminished by the popular music of today? I don't argue that the scientific advances of our era are insignificant. Contrarily, I believe that our scientific advances will become this era's greatest accomplishments. But what about all things aesthetic? In four hundred years (assuming we haven't vapourised ourselves), will this era have made significant contributions to art, literature, music, etc.? The fact that modern people not only read less literature than any other era, but possess LESS SKILL to read than any other era is a foreboding fact. In the 18th century, people either could read well, or not at all. Yes, literacy fell upon economic factors more than today. However, are today's higher RATES of literacy equal to higher literacy skills and talents? I think NOT. I believe most "educated" people do not read serious literature of any type. That more than 90% of adults in the USA cannot add simple fractions, perform "long division" or even describe what a ratio is and how it relates to a fraction, indicates a frightful dumbing-down of our civilisation. What happens when "educated" people loose the ability to comprehend the basic written technical instructions intended to teach technicians how to safely handle a massive nuclear arsenal? Today, there are no less than FIVE countries that possess nuclear arsenals with the power to turn the Earth into plasma, -several hundred times over! Yes, you're saying that I am going overboard. I almost agree. Until I examine the decline of basic academic skills over the last four hundred years. Someday, the last person who has significant academic training and understanding of ancient Greek and Hebrew will die. Not all Bibles are equal. Both The New and Old Testaments require superior language and translation skills to accurately translate them from the ancient texts. In one hand, I hold a Bible that has modern drawings depicting Jesus and The Disciples as light complected people with blues eyes, blond straight hair and noses that look like the plastic surgery jobs of Hollywood actors. Worse, the text contains passages that are simply erroneous; -i.e. poor translations. In the other hand, I hold a Bible, over 100 years old, that contains English text far more accurate, yet the text is beyond the reading skill of most college graduates. I can not be sure, but I suspect that all this technology is dumbing people down faster then an era of history occurs. You all know how to "use" your phones and home PCs, -right? How many of you know how to add to simple binary numbers? -E.g., 10111010 + 00001110 = ? How fast can you convert the binary result into hexadecimal? Can you use your computer's machine language to programme the computer? Even without additional software, ALL computers contain the tools to write and run its machine language. It would not be a computer otherwise. How many of you understand how a computer works at the "machine" level? This is but one example of how the human species is loosing track of its technology. I use this example because anyone reading this owns a computer. I.e., that phone IS a computer. It is frighteningly possible that in four hundred years, all people will be empty-headed. How many of you understand why the King of England is necessary for the function of England's government? Harry and Megan are not important. To me, they hold little interest. I find it frightening that so many people will buy Harry's book. A few of the better educated people who buy his book may even read it...all the way through! If that doesn't scare you, nothing will.
