I bought this watch in an incredible deal from Jomashop that is hard to beat, just to compare my brother lives in Europe and said to me that this JS deal was 40% off the average price in Europe. The watch is insanely good, you hold it and immediately feel the high quality of the materials, finish is excellent. One thing I really like on it is the presence it has on the wrist. Very masculine. The blue dial is gorgeous and resembles a summer day in the blue sea. Absolutely fantastic at this price tag.

Great review as always, I bought a Longines V.H.P. almost a year ago and I’m impressed with their quality. I am eventually going to get their new GMT. Longines is another underrated and underrepresented brand from the Swatch Group, just like Certina is!!!

I have the 41mm HC on the black rubber band and love it! The rubber band brings the weight right down, takes some of the visual heft out and also makes the watch feel a bit more versatile. I was never a fan of the polished center links either, as a matter of preference. Looks classy IMO and can be warn in just about any occasion!

I have this watch with the black dial. Bought it for £1300, before the price hike and before the 39mm version was released. I have a six and a half inch wrist and it wears ok. It has wrist presence and you can really feel that you're wearing a luxury watch. Although if I had a choice back then I'd go for the 39mm. Nonetheless this is a great watch to own.

I like the HC, just the crown I found uncomfortable. Female endlinks are a good choice, given the larger L2L. This is the newest version of this piece? I thought I used push pins and not screws, but I could be mixing things up with Certina or Mido. The clasp is a letdown, keeping in mind they have access to this excellent clasp like on the Certina. I was happy to see that they, improved the lume, this was a problem in older models, also that they went for ceramic bezel insert! The L888.2 is an excellent movement and now with the higher powerreserve, it was 52 h before i think. The beatrate of 25.200 vph is the separating factor here in my opinion, compared the other "powermatic" movements ticking in other Swatch Group movements. Thanks for the review, good thing they finally approved it!

Previously I rated a piece a "champagne watch for lemonade money" if it was below 500 Euro, and both excellent quality and excellent value at the respective price point. However what a collector considers to be "lemonade money" varies. For example a collector that typically spends circa 10,000 Euro on a Rolex, would consider a Hydroconquest at the 1750 Euro price point lemonade money. I honestly look at my Black Bay 58 at 3640 Euro as a champagne watch for lemonade money. Of course I don't look at a Submariner costing 10,000 Euro in the same way as it isn't both "excellent quality and excellent value at the respective price point". Perhaps I should set a 500 Euro limit to pieces that are awarded my champagne watch for lemonade money rating. I appreciate that for the majority of collectors 500+ Euro isn't lemonade money. I decided I wanted to buy a Submariner when I was 19 years old after seeing Roger Moore's 5513 in the James Bond film Live And Let Die. At the time I was a university student, so it took me 2 years from 19-21 years old to save up the £2500 GBP needed to purchase my first preowned Submariner 14060M. Of course back then I wouldn't have viewed a 1750 Euro piece such as this Hydroconquest lemonade money, just as I didn't consider my Submariner to be lemonade money. However now at 45 years old I am fortunate that I can afford to purchase a 10,000 Euro piece without having to save up for 2 years as I did with my first Submariner, so I now see pieces like the Hydroconquest as lemonade money. My first review was a Casio Duro. I have reviewed over 300 watches, everything from a 10 Euro Casio F-91W to a 20,000 Euro Rolex Daytona. It was always my intention from day one to review; low-tier, mid-tier, and high-tier pieces on my channel, something for every collectors budget. The problem is collectors have different budgets, so for example a mid-tier collector will consider low-tier pieces lemonade money; and a high-tier collector will consider mid-tier pieces lemonade money. Really the champagne watch for lemonade money rating should apply to any piece that meets my criteria of being "both excellent quality and excellent value at the respective price point". The problem with imposing a price limit of 500 Euro, is that prevents any watches above that price point being awarded my top rating. Regards, #WR4K

Agreed, Jody is excellent; the number one AliExpress watch review channel. I think in future I will try to keep the champagne rating to under 500 Euro watches. Otherwise it loses its evaluation, as its a given a 3640 Euro Black Bay 58 will be better than a 250 Euro SN004-G; so one can't call them both champagne watches. Yes, the SN004-G got the rating. I have a huge soft spot for the Hydroconquest although I didn't own it yet, but this is the piece from which it begans mine horology adventure where I'm still a rookie a bit. I really like your reviews, they're very objective and competent, so I always wait for your point of view about the watch. At the moment I'm considering to put the trigger for the first automatic piece. I'm choosing between the OP or the Explorer homage. I've watched some reviews about SM and their best quality etc but I think PD gets the closest design of the original especially with the bracelet, clasp etc which pleased me enough to consider to buy it. Also I found it reasonable in terms of getting experience with automatic watch and how does it feel. Anyway, is it any other brands which gets the closest design to the OP or Explorer and could be recommend? I'll appreciate any of suggestions. Thank so much and regards

@@watchreviews4k For me the Cronos has the best dial font, but I prefer white, printed logo than polished. It shouldn't be the dealbreaker but the devil is in the details. Well done! I am strongly considering this watch. Any comparables within $500 +/- one would recommend looking at? I feel the only thing this "lacks" is titanium but that would bring cost to another level as well. Seems to check every other box for me as a possible daily diver

Don't buy the boring, overpriced Steinhart. All they do are homages, very little creativity. I know because I started my watch journey with one. After it broke due to water damage, I sent it to Steinhart for repair, and once they "repaired" it, I took one swim, and there was water under the glass. Watch dead. For the money there's a ton of micro brands that offer a lot more. And you get the same level of movement that you can service anywhere (you'll probably be better off than sending it to incompetent Steinhart).

I have reviewed over 300 watches on my channel Giovanni; including chronographs, dive, daily, dress, field, digital, watches. Dive watch reviews gain the most views. Therefore from a content creators perspective dive watch reviews gain more AdSense revenue; hence why the majority of watch channels review so many dive watches. Rolex, Tudor, and Omega, content also gains the most views. These brands are famous for the Submariner Date, Black Bay 58, and Seamaster respectively. Content regarding these pieces also gains more views than other types of watches, same applies to homages of them by brands such as Pagani Design, and San Martin.

There is no difference between the quality of pressed clasps or any other type. So, get the 39mm version if it is too big. This is the equal of Tudor. The L88 is a modified 2892A2. The clasp is not the shortcoming. Sorry.

Why is the cheaper Quartz version of Hydroconquest e.g. L3.740.4.96.6 having a polished side case which is much more beautiful than this Automatic model with such an ugly brushed side case finish which is a pain to watch? Shouldn't it be the other way round or both polished? This is a deep design flaw which is bizarre.

Not sure I would consider it "excellent value" at €1,700. With the exception of the movement, the rest of the materials used seem to be fairly standard. What does the movement provide that justifies the premium price? It is not officially certified superlative chronometer, it just appears to have a decent power reserve and is quite accurate. Liked the AR coating, but really, this watch feels €1,000 too expensive, especially when considered against some of the Chinese competition.

In addition I have detailed in my review the silicon balance spring being anti-magnetic, the shock resistance, and 5 year warranty. @@barclt01 I have owned 4 separate Rolex from new over the last 30 years. I also own a number of homage watches at the other end of the price range. I can tell you 'heritage' means very little after a period of ownership. You can't see the movement so your only indicator of excellence is the accuracy. WR4K himself has illustrated the excellent accuracy of some of the Chinese offerings. So, I stand by my comments. Perhaps if you have owned a number of high end pieces your ownership experience has been different, but after wearing the Submariner, Sea Dweller, DayDate and latterly the Daytona for 18 years, I can tell you they eventually all just feel like any other watch. And I really enjoy the ability to buy multiple homage watches for different occasions without having to worry about being mugged, losing them or having to spend over a grand to get them serviced.

I’m with him on brand heritage. It’s what people that spend too much on watches tend to justify the cost. Manufacturers love it because you get to pay for, well, nothing. It is absolutely meaningless. It’s like the ‘soul’ argument auto vs quartz where quartz is by far and away the better technology and you can’t see the auto in a closed case back.

I looked at this watch and there are three red flags that made me look elsewhere. 1. I cannot stand and do not understand, why watch makers have odd sized lug widths, it is both stupid and arrogant. 2. AR coating in the outside. Look I insist on Sapphire so the watch face doesn’t scratch and then I coat it with a scratchable material. 3. For a watch of this price they couldn’t put in screw in links to adjust the bracelet, you have to punch them out and punch them back in. That’s what I’d expect from a cheap Steinhart bracelet, wait a minute, they have screw in adjustments. So it’s a no from me.
