I’m in UK and we have a delivery company called Hermes. Now, I’ve used them quite a few times without problems, but they do get some bad publicity. When I saw the post about her being done with Hermes who reduced her to tears, all I could think was bloody hell, what did they do with her damn parcel! I felt such a twat when I started to watch her video, but it did give me a good laugh. Worldwide pandemic and people are crying over Hermes bags!! Lmao!

At first I did feel bad for Mel, but now that I see that eBay store... wow. First, that’s just weird to me. Selling things when you want to clean out your wardrobe is one thing, but selling random samples and holiday cards that were obviously given to her by an SA?! Not to mention the empty packaging from Cartier, LV, etc. that could be later used to sell fakes to unsuspecting buyers. I see why Hermès wants nothing to do with her... it’s just shameful really.

Selling Empty packagings like the boxes and dust bags is even a bad thing it’s better than just throwing them in the trash. They have value that some people will pay. I’ve personally bought empty boxes bc I had to throw away the original box that came with my product for space reasons

Actually, I’ve bought empty packaging because I buy regularly from preloved sites/stores and sometimes I want the brand boxes/packaging. It keeps packaging out of the landfill and makes me happy. I was wondering where a family got so much money from. Especially when you consider that she is still so immature and constantly dreams about a "dreambag". In what job can a young woman who is so immature to talk about “dreambags” earn so much money to be able to afford this luxury? Now I can see a lot! I think she buys stuff there to get her money and then sells it online to recoup the money.

I always say, " If you talk long enough, eventually you tell on yourself." Mel told A LOT. I personally don't care too deeply about her seller history. I will say the items were weirdly grouped - authentics, dupes, random makeup palettes, and a peculiar heap of Michael Jackson memorabilia/conspiracy books. Grey market tactics involved? Absolutely! But not much can be done since it's legal to do so. However, she shouldn't have complained on the internet when she knows what she was selling wouldn't be well received if the public got wind. I hate the concept of "the journey" and would never do it myself, but if you play the Hermes game and lose, then that's the game you subjected yourself to. She went in knowing the odds and knowing her habits so... it is what it is.

I have no problem with resellers/personal shoppers (in fact, thank you to some of you who make it easier for us to obtain certain items). But I also have no problem with the brands marketing and their going after resellers. Both sides are simply doing what is in their best interest. I highly doubt Hermes cares if you sell your used Birkin for whatever reason a couple years ago and you're trying to get a new one. They're going after the specific resellers that specifically come into their store and try to buy with the purpose of reselling. Given Mel's selling history, I wouldn't be surprised if they thought she was a serious reseller.

I have heard about her infamous eBay account when I was watching her Goodbye Hermes video, back when comment was not turned off yet. And I have always wondered how bad it was. It IS bad, she is selling everything, things that are gifted and are samples. And it seems that she is also a dropshipper selling dupe items from China. I don't get how someone who speaks so highly about Hermes craftsmanship would also use or sell dupes (a polite word for fake) items such as straps , chain, twilly, etc. If you really have a real appreciation for design and craftsmanship, you wouldn't be able to 'appreciate' dupes. Not only stealing designs is stealing intellectual property, those items were not made by people who are paid fairly. Great insight on the matter, Dacob. Thanks for sharing.

In one of the lengthy emails she sent to her Hèrmes S.A., Mel mentioned she wanted additional pairs of Oran & Ilana sandals for her friend. I took that to mean that she intended to resell the sandals, and I’m almost certain that’s how the S.A. interpreted it too. I don’t care if Mel’s a seller, but those emails were endlessly elaborate because she felt she needed to cover her tracks, and volunteered way too many details as a result. I have family members that are attorneys, and I can say it is absolutely true that the actual law matters more than the policies of a specific boutique. I personally bought an item from a boutique with a “store credit only” return policy, but that actually isn’t legal - where I live the law states that someone can return any item for a full refund to their original form of payment within 3 days of purchase, especially if something is wrong with the item. So with a lawyer’s help, I was able to bypass the boutique’s policy and get a full refund. What if she committed suicide and that email was the last form of communication she had with anyone? That person is just an SA not therapist and I get why they reported her. I agree the manager should’ve been the one to make the initial contact with her instead of blocking her on Instagram. You can’t expect an Hermès Birkin or Kelly for every baby or important life event you have. That isn’t how this works. I spent 3 times what she spent on Hermès in the last year alone. Mind you I’d been spending like this with them for 5 years not begging for a Birkin or Kelly. I was finally offered one this year. I really don’t think she truly is aware how she’s coming off which is another issue. It also sounds to me like she didn’t have a good relationship with her SA. Mel should have just switched. @@VC. I think Dacob mentioned that staff commissions aren’t high on dream bags but they are on ready to wear etc so human greed = selling her other stuff. Also I cannot help but think telling someone upfront that you don’t want their patronage is kind of uncouth and no brand will likely do that upfront, rather then will subtly just say they cannot give you what you want, but sell you the other stuff that isn’t so intrinsically linked to the brand. Like scarves aren’t the signature for Hermes so it’s safer to sell that

On one hand, banning someone from shopping at your store because they resell the boxes and dust bags from your products is ridiculous. As he mentioned, Hermes doesn’t have morals, they’re extremely corrupt and actively create a toxic atmosphere that encourages people to engage on a hilarious “journey” to feel “good enough” to be “offered the opportunity” to buy a 15k bag. On the other hand, if you are actually invested in playing that game and you step on their heels by reselling their boxes, holiday cards, and dust bags, you can’t pretend to be shocked or feel betrayed. If this is her store, then she knew exactly what she was risking and did it anyway.

Hermes is a business. Play the game, don’t play the game, but if you play the game, don’t get consumed by the game because it is after-all is said and done, a game to drive sales and create exclusivity. Great video, this is definitely an interesting topic! Two things came to my mind…#1, if this is Mel’s profile it appears she could be involved in drop shipping besides just the reselling. There is nothing wrong with that per se, but it’s a bit puzzling why someone who “adores” these luxury brands as she stated would sell imitation items. #2 I’m wondering if actual collectors would buy these ribbons, boxes, etc? But it seems to be a great market for counterfeiters to snap those up to make their listings more trustworthy! I personally have no issues with reselling, but on the flip side we have to accept brands don’t appreciate it. I just personally would never feel comfortable selling samples/free items. If I were to sell a bag, the buyer would get the dust bag, box, and anything else I had saved from that purchase.

Is no one mentioning that she posed for Instagram in the same Zara dress she is selling NWT on eBay??? That’s shady to me. So she bought the dress to model it and then sell it. It’s the same as buying the bag, making a video, and then returning it. I don’t card if someone resells things, but it’s one thing if it’s something you no longer use vs buying it from the boutique and immediately reselling the item at a huge markup. As for the dupes, again, it’s one thing to buy a dupe for yourself, but another to be a volume seller of said dupes when you are a KZbinr. Just my 2 cents.

I agree 100% with both of your points. I noticed also that one of her latest pictures on instagram, of a Chanel RTW piece with some pretty buttons, is being resold on her ebay store. I don't think she ever wore that piece, so she bought it just to resell (or it didn't fit her, in which case it's understandable to rehome). However, using it for IG content while you have it listed for sale is super shady and sketchy. I also agree about the difference between buying a dupe for yourself or even selling a dupe, vs being a volume seller of dupes. Big difference.

The retailer will certainly frown upon a customer profiting from the exclusivity of their products. It hurts the brand image if they have a waiting list for certain exclusive items where valued customers are patiently waiting their turn, only to see someone get the item, and then sell it at a profit to someone who may not even be on the original waiting list - but has money to burn.

I don't see that she's making a profit on those re-sales (the fake items are a different matter). I think it's more about her feeding her KZbin channel by endless purchases she can't afford without re-selling. Frankly, a lot of other KZbinrs, who are plainly gifted items by luxury brands (Dior as an example) also have selling outlets if one pokes around the internet and sell the gifted items. Its all about generating views for the KZbinrs and publicity for the brands.

I love your take on this, and how you look at all perspectives. I agree that Hermes brings resellers upon themselves with the games they they play. I also agree that Hermes wanted to protect their brand when they saw Mel's eBay store and the things she was selling. If I were Hermes or any other brand and saw the sketchy things she was selling, I wouldn't want to be associated that. Also, the fact that they made a video and whined about her treatment from Hermes and pulled the whole "I have absolutely no idea what I did wrong! This came out of nowhere," makes me wonder what else happened for HR to contact her. She said that they said something along the lines of her being a health and safety hazard. You do not get labeled a health and safety hazard just for pestering an SA for your "dream bag," and reselling their items. Correct me if I'm wrong about that. I'm sure something else happened. I wonder if the manager did try to contact her himself about the situation, but then she did or said something that needed to be taken to HR. Though as you pointed out, we have no way of knowing for sure because all we know is what Mel has told us. Those are just my thoughts.
@shaunaplague
@shaunaplague 3 жыл бұрын
I think the health and safety hazard aspect might have been because she said she was getting very depressed at not being offered a “dream bag”. That could make Hermès worry they might be liable, if she then hurt herself or did something to herself or someone else…due to depression caused by their brand, sales associate, and store policies. When you mention depression to a sales associate, in WRITING, it could make a brand very nervous and want to protect themselves against any possible liability.

Another theory: maybe the HR department contacted her to tell her she's banned and she omitted that from her video? A Manager could do this, but if the store wants to wash their hands of this customer maybe better for it to come from a "superior".

Agree but as someone trained in HR, it should have never come from an internal source. It should have come from someone like a customer service manager or supervisor. Even though it's not like she can sue so it doesn't matter who it came from. They probably will block her altogether after all this.

The grievances, the dishonesty, the badgering of an SA, the haughty attitude, the lack of accountability. When you agree to terms of service, you should abide by them. Then on the other side you have Hermes being Machiavellian lol. Subbed 🌸

@@Hannah-um2uz i’m from the Philippines and most designer brands aren’t available here, and if available, the prices are astronomical because of taxes. So usually fellow Filipinos who are at Milan or Paris where designer bags are readily available and cheaper, plus there is a tax exemption in buying designer goods there, so the bags are really cheap, get to shop for you, with additional fees. From there they gain profit. Because of that, they gain SA relationships there, which makes easier for them to spot for sales, stock availability, new and upcoming collections.

I think you can be a difficult customer or resell your own items but I don't think you can do both. There was no upside in this for Hermes.

If she did that in Portugal, she would go straight into jail. Here It is forbidden to sell samples and free dust bags that protect the items. Our law states you can not sell those type of things.

- Very strange to sell so much packaging? Definitely (but please let’s consider that there are people that collect everything and ones garbage can be others treasure). - Will this make every targeted brand angry? Most certainly. - Does this justify not getting further quota bags? Probably. -> But, why not having a direct discussion where this is explained face to face to the customer? (She informed in advance when she was visiting the store). It would have stopped the alleged pressure on the SA. Getting HR to call the customer is not at the level of the House and definitely not the conventional thing to do. This all assuming that the not getting the quota bag is in fact related with the „reselling activities“.

Damn, that is a straight up WALMART STORE. I Do think her deleting the store was sketchy and maybe a sign of guilt or trying to hide something but at the same time, she should be able to do what she wants with items she purchases with her money. I end up tossing a lot of my packaging because it takes up so much space to store, but selling a free tag/box for $20 or $50? Kinda Cringe, as you would say. I think if she hid how much Hermes she resells(which is her prerogative, but only mentioned the pink Hermes bag which made her feel fat(??) in the original video) I think it is possible she left out details of the phone call situation.

Reselling an old bag that you no longer use or love is one thing, but buying extras for your 'friends' and begging for extra freebies just to turn around and sell everything online is another. Why would you expect them to just keep giving you exclusive items (or anything at all) when you're doing the latter? Not only is she reselling though... She's selling packaging, dropshipping, and selling dupes of bags... and I guarantee most if not all of the makeup is fake as well. Tsk tsk.

I unsubscribed after a long time because she is completely oblivious to her inappropriate behaviour. One would think she would assume at least part of the responsibility, especially regarding the cringe-worthy emails, but no. She wanted people to turn against Hermès, while still expecting to be offered a bag (she didn't rule out working with the store again).

Supply and demand due to a false scarcity made by these corporations and marketing. You hit the nail on the head. This is programming the masses to want what they can’t have in turn making resellers. Amazing perspective most other people in this community don’t have. I couldn’t have said it any better myself. These corporations prey on our insecurities on our mental health on our ego. People go into debt and lose a lot to taste the dream these corporations are selling. If I buy something from you it’s not ur business what I do with it! Excellent analysis. You called her out tho but the commentary is awesome!

disgraceful. She claims she appreciates the brand blah blah she’s a pro reseller. I can’t believe she even had the nerve to complain. Of course Hermes customers care, she’s taking away chances from customers who want bags for themselves. Not to mention boxes & bags could be used to scam someone

I was more offended about the replica LV coin purse and multi pochette strap! Selling fakes is illegal even if you're not pretending they're authentic and selling them cheap. I have never sold packaging I actually give it away to friends who want to display the boxes and pretend like they bought luxury stuff 😅😂 I keep the ribbons and wear them in my hair 😂 I would never sell something I got for free, but I do like Mel a lot so I don't look down on her for this, I just don't like the fakes

Two things that make me unsubscribe: 1. Only buy/feature luxury items to re-sell for an obnoxious amount of profit 2. When selling, asking for money via friends&family on PayPal or the buyer has to pay for the seller charges. Can you imagine Hermes or Chanel asking us to pay for the debit/credit card transaction charges?!! More importantly, as we learned from the ‘alleged’ story of this video, these KZbinrs are not our friends/family.

Omg I find it so frustrating that seller’s ask you to pay the seller fee. It’s a fee for the SELLER to be able to use PayPal invoicing and provides seller protection just as much as buyer protection
