You are absolutely right about that back pocket ripping the side stitch. I bought a secondhand 255 classic with exactly that damage . I got it for a great price and sent it to the Leather surgeons to be repaired. Worth it. I feel like I rescued a beautiful object.

Thank you. 🙏🏻💖 I store mine (got the pink one) in a white chanel micro fiber pouch then I lay it on its sponge that came with the box it came in and I close the box… I lay the chain tucked in way that it does not touch the leather bag.

Great video as always, Dacob. So agree with you regarding the Reissue pocket designs, most people forget that it was created in 1955, and things were alot simpler then. This bag is not an SUV of bags, with pockets and space galore. This is a small 2 seater Ferrari, no back seat, hardly any trunk space, just enough room for the essentials. The space is limited, but what is available is terrific, and the thrill of owning the ultimate handbag, like the Ferrari, well worth the 💰. Happy New Year!

i use the mona lisa pocket (the one on thr very back) to put a small plastic bag into it (i fold it super flat) in case it starts to rain when im out so i always have one on hand to protect my bag from the rain. you can also love the love letter pocket wich actually has no purpose for that-works great, but always fold it super flat :) i would never use those pockets for something else because i dont want the bag to loose its shape and i also think they are literally just style elements of the bag and not necessarily designed as functional pockets

I always enjoy and appreciate your commentary on Chanel especially when you dialogue about the 2.55, I could listen to you speak for hours. I debated commenting, because I felt so sure that Coco would just use her bag and believe her design of the bag was both a beautiful marriage of function and design. I can’t imagine a busy woman designing a bag that required that much care. I opted to comment once hearing you acknowledge the same “Coco didn’t care”. I love my reissue, I use it respectfully, but I use it and enjoy it, I almost feel like I have to, I think it’s a great bag. Am I crazy to think, if the back pocket wasn’t meant to be used Coco would have stocked it closed, don’t get me wrong, I wouldnt put keys or and apple in the back, but certainly a passport or my phone without a case. I use my bag and always appreciate its history and wonder “How would Coco use it?” It’s my favorite part of owning this bag. Happy New Year! Thanks so much for the video.

Thank you for the comment melikeeto. Yes, Coco would use her bags without fuss but she would never use the slit between the two flaps. The "back pocket" (the slit between the top and inner flaps) was not sewn or sealed shut because it would have added weight to the bag and most importantly it would have added a very non-elegant aesthetic detail to the bag: a very long and clumpy stitch between the flaps, which would not allow the upper flap to lay so effortlessly on top of the inner flap. The stitching would also show on the inner side of the bag and would damage further the elegance of the design. The slit between the two flaps is not to be used. Simply by putting your hand in there to grab whatever flat object you placed in there will with time damage the bag from stretching it and putting pressure on the two stitches holding the flaps together. Of course you are free to do whatever you please with your bag but just bare in mind that that "slit" is actually not a "pocket".

My SA from the Cambon store told me that they do not know when they will be receiving them again. Am of course looking for a Made In France bag but I think it will be tricky even when they will be available again to find one... I went to Cambon, Montaigne, Royale and even Galeries Lafayette and Printemps, none were available anywhere in either the gold or ruthenium hardware. All the 2.55 had been bought just before Christmas and was in full demand!!! Strange right? They told me that they do not know when it will be available again. Hopefully I can get one for my birthday in mid February and before a price increase. In France a 2.55 in the Jumbo size 28cm cost 6600€ today. I will not be thrill if ever the price increase is 400€ or 500€ more. It would be insane if it goes over the 7000€ mark!!! The 2.55 will be my second Chanel bag and it is my holy grail bag. Am really looking forward to it. Otherwise, I do understand that it is also cool to know that they are perhaps trying to curb the overproduction of the 2.55. It makes it even more rare and special. Thanks for this video! I really enjoyed it! I don´t own any Chanel bag, but have just discovered the Dior New Lock which is totally me. My collector gene made me buy three different versions in a row. One of them is a patent bag that has seen better days, but still is stunning in its own way (and came to me at an amazing price.) With this one- for the first time- I´ve come to the point where I do use a bag without much fear of destroying it. It already had a life and now shares mine giving me a lot of joy. The other two are babied inside their dustbags, taken out only for cuddles so far.

I just took your tip and took the chain outside of the 227 to keep outside the bag - laid flat with chain away from the leather in its box - unfortunately I don’t have a white classic felt bag - it came with a black drawstring only (2010 -13x model) not sure if the boutique just didn’t have one. Its preowned in blush pink lambskin. I just inspected a slight leather chafing in the exact place of folding in the chain - so thank you for preventing more imperfections to my beauty .

That all depends what lifestyle one leads and how delicate the person is in general. You can destroy a bag in seconds but you could also use it and still have it look like new even ten years from the moment you buy it new... It all depends on the wearer more so than on the desire to preserve it per se.

Hi! I thank you so much for all your tips on keeping these bags well cared for. You or someone should sell an aftermarket kit with all these protective pieces to keep the double flaps safe in storage. A stuffing block, felt pieces, a microfiber cloth, a dual pocket dustbag, etc. I have two 2.55 bags that I have bought resale (a 2005 anniversary 225 and a vintage 2003 black lambskin same size in the mademoiselle lock and chain configuration) and I want all the pieces but came with bags (the earlier bag is a simple black cotton without the pockets) and boxes only. I would pay more than $100 easily for such a kit. I only have interest in buying vintage pieces, personally -and obviously the resale market is quite strong. I think one could do well to sell these kits in the different sizes. I still want to acquire one or two of the classic flaps with 24K hardware and so I would be someone who would buy at least 3 storage kits alone! If anyone knows of any such kits already available please respond and let me know. I know some sell felt but I want a full set of all pieces.

Dacob, do you have any recommendations about options for getting the hardware touched up on a 2.55 gold hardware bag? My clasp is also loose. It is my understanding that Chanel will not repair bags of a certain age, unlike Hermes, though I have not asked my SA as it is not a bag that I purchased from her directly.

hey :) thats not true, its just a rumor. i reached out to chanel via email and via call and both told me that they will repair the hardwear no matter how old the bag is, even if its vintage. you dont even need the receipt-as long as its authentic they will repair (if possible). sometimes they cant replace certain hardwear if its a seasonal one with chrystals or something or it can take way longer but this 5year rumor is definately not true. i assume that maybe they do it for free the first 5 years and after that you have to pay for the repair and thats why this rumor could come to life but im nit sure about that. you can also reach out to leather surgeons. they are awesome :)

@@mbelieve9919 your welcome :) im sure they can help you and bring your bag back to live. for chanel you have to go to a boutique, they check the bag and make a note what has to be repaired and send it in and than you will get a pricequote. its because they always check the bag for authenticity first when it arrives at the repair service, before that „they cant tell you“ wich is a bit annoying but i dont know hoe it works through covid. just call them and maybe you are lucky and they give you a price directly :)

Hi M. What Dave wrote you is correct: CHANEL will take the bag in and will first need to check the authenticity, subsequently they will tell you how much the repairs would cost (if the repairs are possible). Fingers crossed that they can repair your bag!
