But I'm not a fan of how he replaced the gold/browm insert with the all brown insert. Took away some of its character by doing that

I own a D serial 16713 Root Beer & I agree about the inserts, the all brown inserts were typically for the all gold versions as far as I have seen. Mine has the oyster bracelet with gold thru the clasp & while I would like a jubilee bracelet I don’t really like the look of the 2 tone jubilee from this era where the clasp is all steel which kind of breaks up the 2 tone & doesn’t have the security of of the oyster bracelet with safety clasp. Also you would need to source the correct end links for the jubilee to fit the no holes case. After owning for about 2 years another 16713 Root Beer I would like would be a holes case version late A, P, K, Y serial with a SEL oyster for easier bracelet/strap changes. My two cents. Good choice Robin.

Morning from California. I have the 16758 in 18k yellow gold, picked it up about 7 years ago. The magic is light play on the RootBeer dial is lovely and special. I think these in TT or all Gold are sleepers and undervalued even now

The five digit Root Beers are one of my favorites. This watch while not common on the wrists of my fellow pilots, is still a somewhat popular choice after a steel GMT. I think the new Root Beer version is a worthy successor.

After you wear a new ceramic GMT Master 2 Root Beer with its bigger indices, maxi case and better bracelet with the longer power reserve. You’ll never look back at these tired older relics with faded bezels and harder to read lume. No biases intended as every Rolex is special to there owners and certainly the older models have supported development of the newer models, but vintage watches are exactly that “vintage”. There a bygone era look with antiquated styling and technology. Yes.....Highly collectable because of there rarity a unique size proportions but not as functional for fit and form as the newer models. Appearance is always something that’s personal. Best regards with your decision, it’s a beautiful watch all the same.

Everybody has their opinion. It comes down to personal preference, and some of the things you criticize are the very things I like about these neo-vintage watches (faded/textured/varied inserts and the classic styling/proportions). I appreciate the new ones, but if I had to commit to one Rolex watch it would be a 5 digit. It's odd that Rolex made both the Jubilee and Oyster bracelets an option for the SS GMT's, but not for the current Root Beer. I'd want that TT Jubilee option for that watch.

@@watchsymposium ......I didn’t think I was being critical, it’s an unbiased opinion. I’m not putting down the older vintage watches. I currently own a vintage piece, owning a 16600 Sea Dweller from 2005 era. In addition I have over the years from 1977 owned several other Rolex’s. Namely a Milgauss, Submariner Date , and an Explorer 2. So....I think I qualify to voice an opinion from experience as I’m certainly a fan of vintage pieces. However..... I’m not a fan of keeping them in a safe and gloating over them occasionally as they become more commoditized and supposedly rare. I like wearing watches and from the stand point of an aging man with having experienced both old and newer Rolex’s. These newer watches are perhaps more bulky in appearance and size proportions depending on ones wrist size but they offer better visibility with larger dial and indices being more legible to my eye sight. Power reserve and every other change that’s been introduced is why the vintage pieces have appreciated in value. If you own any watch the importance is to making it special by wearing it. Build your own legacy with every scratch and adventure. Variety on which model to wear is always nice option depending on how you feel towards the pieces, there is no wrong choice between old versus new. It’s all good!
