The epoxy repair job on the shaft held up well sense the last video. wouldn't start had to completely disassemble the pump just to get to the centrifugal start switch

Wow! This is exactly what happened to my fountain pump and your video was incredibly helpful ! It made me feel confident that I had a chance at fixing it. This was my first attempt at such a job and it worked! Turned out a spider (there were many in there, and snakes too) had made its egg nest right between the contacts of the centrifugal start switch. That was easy to fix. However, I still can't believe the entire pump had to be disasembled to get to it. I also struggled getting the impeller off the motor shaft and tried many ways until I did it the way you described in your video. So, thank you! Thanks a Bunch!

That is a centrifugal switch when closed the motor diverts power thru the capacitor. Once it reaches rpm enough to open the switch via the centrifugal switch the power is diverted off the capacitor leg and to direct current from power supply. The switch can be hung up and is open with motor off then the capacitor is out of operation and no power to give it a kick

That’s exactly right

Hey Dave, those pesky centrifugal switches. I have had one or two in the past where they were sticky too, one stuck in the open position and the motor wouldn't start, and the other was stuck in the closed position with the start cap still in the circuit which ran rough until it kicked the breaker. I have heard of people using a timed delay relay to kick out the start windings in place of the mechanical switch, that might be a more trust worthy option. And since I know how you feel about VFDs, maybe a 3 phase motor driven by a single to 3 phase VFD. LOL I just had to throw that in there. nice to see you back. Scott

Nothing lasts forever I guess! Another option for motor starting is a load sensing relay. On start up the motor pulls high amps and holds a relay closed for a short time, when the current drops, the relay opens and switches out the start cap.

Howdy, I just had mine stop. Found breaker half off so rest it and turned pump on. It flashed and went poof from back side. Any suggestion?
