Good video, great recap of physics! BUT, I will be going with a sheeting product. This video was very handy because you reminded me of a few things. The water is beading because the water molecules are sticking to each other and to something else. Water has two specific properties. Cohesion and Adhesion. When the water only sticks to itself (Cohesion) that results in surface tension. When it sticks to any other thing, that is adhesion. This can be viewed in space. A drop of water floating in space will only stick to itself...but if that drop of water finds a wall, it will stick to the wall as a droplet. That is why water drops can stick to a ceiling! In your video, the water drops are sticking to the car! Otherwise they would be rolling off of the car. When they get to big, as you stated, gravity takes over and they roll off of the car. If water sheets off of something, that means that it does not have the ability to stick to it. If it can't stick to it, it can only stick to itself or be overcome by gravity. No offense, but water that beads on a car is sticking to the car some how! I hope this makes sense. I enjoyed the video and it helped me a lot! Cheers

This was a great explanation! I to actually like beading vs sheeting. Beading also allows me to know when a product is breaking down as sheeting is a little bit harder to tell. Yes water spotting comes from hard water and a pain to remove at times. Rain water spotting washes right off.

Thanks for this detailed explanation. My main concern arent waterspots, but dirt. I want the car to look and be clean as long as possible, and I think when driving in winter weather and getting roadgrime mixed with rain/water and have it all over the paint, I don't really care if it beads into little droplets that stay on the paint and leave the dried dirt, i want it to sheet off before it can dry onto the surface. Wouldn't that make a "sheeter" a much better choice?

This was very informative. Awesome job and extremely well done! Another benefit of beading versus sheeting is the ability to blow the water off the surface after washing using a leaf blower, etc. Depending on how one dries off their vehicle, this greatly reduces the possibility of creating fine scratches or love marks.

Interesting video, I cant say I like beading or sheeting more. I like the idea of sheeting getting rid of more water vs having it sit on the paint but it doesnt seem like sheeting works any better than beading when it comes to rain. Both will let water sit on the paint afterwards.

True, i find the same. I almost feel like parking my car on an incline when it's been raining to let the sheeting or beading water fall off easier. I wonder how good a blower vac would be after it rains? hmm 🤔

I used to think water beading was a good thing until I got a black car and realized that it leaves very conspicuous spots that have to be wiped off every time it gets wet, not to mention the fact that if that's from hard water they'll get etched on the paint have to be waxed off which is a royal pain in the butt. I'll take sheeting thank you. Wondering how to get that back after the car's been treated with hydrophobic products?

@EileenTheCr0w
@EileenTheCr0w Жыл бұрын
I don't think there's any concern with the light, it would probably be too weak to have any impact even if they were tiny perfect magnifying glasses, but they'd also need to levitate above the paint instead of sitting on the car for that to work. You can set a magnifying glass on a table for example and it won't do much of anything until it's lifted up to the perfect spot.

lots of effort went into this video, however I am not sure your info is accurate at all.For example, you state the surface of your hood is coated with meguires hybrid ceramic wax and that surface is now very hydrophobic and therefore the water beads extremely well due to the hydrophobic properties { and sheeting requires less hydrophobic surfaces to form}....................if you want to see why that theory is wrong,just take a garden hose,remove the nozzle, and flood the same extremely hydrophobic surface hood and watch the water now sheet off the surface like magic with zero beading.

true protection is water sheeting and not water beading. when there is dirty acid rainwater. you do not want it to stay on your clear coat. the longer it stays on. the more chances it will bite in. go with a polymer or acrylic sealer to have more lasting protection. wax is the last choices.

Why is it so common for you "detailers" to show only how the product is used, but NEVER do a follow up as to how well it actually worked? I mean how about a follow up after 1 or 2 weeks of driving? How does it look then and how easy is to clean? And one other thing, water beading happens naturally, it's not the product making the "water bead", the true test is whether that water bead will turn into water spot when left to dry on its own.

Its infuriating that anyone can make a KZbin video and say anything and people believe every work like a flock of sheep. Theres no quality control. At the end of the day, the problem with You Tube is there is an ulterior motive for the person creating the video to make money. This is especially the case in the detailing industry which relies heavily on non-professionals consuming products.
