Hi Dan, Many thanks for recrafting my shoes and the important for me colour change. Rubber soles for grip as winter approaches, I really like the colour now and have been wearing them a fair bit now and had a few compliments. I liked the original colour but did not wear them much and felt they where to light for me, which it turned out to be true. They where sold originally as Water Bison by Crocket and Jones in the late 70's early 80's, so I hope that answers one question, I tend to look after my boots and shoes and when I am not wearing them, they all have shoes trees in. Cost wise for this ebay find , £37 for the shoes and £160 for Dans skills. As you can see £200 ish for a pair of new to me hand made English shoes from Crocket and Jones (est 1869) I feel was well worth it. I have enjoyed watching Dan work his magic ever since he started making youtube vids and felt I would have to find something exotic for him to work on. I enjoyed the new vid style but I also enjoy the longer ones as well but time is important to us all. Again many thanks Dan.

An excellent find. Considering that a pair of shoes of this make would be above £500, add on the extra for an exotic skin, after Dan's work they are as good as new. You had them very cheap, all in.

Those are beautiful shoes. I love the grain on buffalo and bison leathers. Those gaps on either side of the shanks triggered my OCD though 😬. I would have filled those with cork, or better yet, with some pieces of scrap leather cut to shape and glued in place.

I did not know that about tape. 67 years old, and I learned something new today, without having to leave home. Jay's a good guy; a smart guy, especially since he's come into furniture repair/restoration so relatively recently. I mainly watch him for the cats, though. NGL. Oh, and I love those shoes. I bought a pair of Crockett & Jones while I was overseas, many years ago - okay, decades ago. Them and a pair of Clarks that I bought in Hong Kong, but were stolen by shipboard workers in the Philippines. I tried car sales for a short time after I got out of the Navy (I sucked at it, and hated it). For that job, where you had to dress somewhat nicely, I did by a pair of used Crockett & Jones from a thrift shop. They looked very nice, but the soles were very worn, and I didn't know there was such a thing as someone who could replace it.

Nice job mate! I wanted to ask you about the soles. Being the shoes a special kind of leather, wouldn't it be better looking to put leather soles instead? or did you use those rubber ones because they're more comfortable to walk? I just think leather ones would've look nicer BUT you're the expert!

They look great, but wouldn’t it be better to replace the welt as well? Maybe the client didn’t want it replaced, but isn’t it nearly impossible to get the new thread into the same holes. Thanks.

Cordialement.
