Since Gamsol is a solvent, wouldn’t it damage the plastic of the water brush? Have you actually tried it? I was thinking of trying it with Zestit.....

Lots of lovely ideas. I have used the water brush with water sol grahpite and loved the effect. BTW you can layer watercolour pencils and mix colours that way - layer then wet - convenient for travelling as just 6 pencils needed maybe some brown to mix a good black too.

so, do you use just 1 brish for all colors? or have a couple to use? cleaning/refilling would take quite a bit of water - right? i have one- but rarely use it isnce i am not sure about lugging extra water whereever i go LOL

One brush for it all, it's filled with water, not paint. I dip the wet brush in the paint to pick up the color, wipe it on a paper towel to clean. One water filled brush will paint several small paintings.

I'm curious about filling the water brush with mineral spirits to blend standard color pencils.

That's a good question, I haven't thought to try that. I bet it would work.i would probably store the point upright so the MS aren't always flowing through the chamber. . The brush might last longer that way. I would definitely try it for the convenience. Use a pipette to load it. Please let me know how it works.

What paper are you using? And how thick is it?

Most of the paper is Strathmore 140lbs. My favorite is Arches 140lb. but most of my journals are made with watercolor paper. Sketchbook paper is too thin.

Have you by chance used these with acrylics? Maybe using them for washes in acrylic.

No I haven't tried that. I hesitate to add too much water to acrylics because they loose their viscosity. If I want a wash, I'll just use watercolor because they are more transparent.

Most of the ones I have came in a group when I ordered 100 half pans. 50 magnets came with it and they fit the size. However I have had to reglue many since the self-adhesive doesn't always stick. Got these on Amazon I have also bought a roll of magnets and cut them to fit. These magnets are a little thicker and stronger.

A variation on that is to make swatches on a stiff card with each watercolor pencil in your set. You can carry that card with you, and pick up colors from it with the brush. It's a flat watercolor set that you can carry with you and keep tucked in the back of your pad.

Ooo, yes, filling with acrylic ink works great. Havent had any trouble at all. I store them flat. Its handy to have at least 2 different dilutions for sketching.

@bobbuethe1477 sorry to take so long to respond. I think i started with Platinum Carbon black because its what i use in my fountain pen. Its supposed to be less cloggy. Ive refilled my light and midtone brushes with liquitex acrylic ink. Havent had any noticeable problems.
