Water Flow Rate & Volume Measurement using Water Flow Sensor & Arduino

In this project, we will interface YFS201 Hall Effect Water Flow Sensor with Arduino for measuring flow rate and volume of water or any other liquid. This is a very wonderful project that can be used in industry or at home or at water flow measurement applications in water tap, tunnel, river, etc. Water Flow Sensor for Flow Rate & Volume Measurement using Arduino code along with circuit diagram is explained here.
This project can be used to measure liquid flowing through a pipe or container or to create a control system based on the water flow rate or quantity. For example, you could use this while gardening to measure the amount of water used to water your plants, to prevent wastage.

Seems to me to be an elaborate way of doing the job. Wouldn't it make more sense to use a fourteen bit binary counter and save on interrupt calls? The core of this device is actually liters per pulse !!!. Therefore you would have automatic quantity measurement. Timer interrupts can give flow rate measurements if required.

Hey. I used this programm with some additions. But the total volume passed is much more than the actual. It appear total depen on how fast the water is passed. if the rate goes faster than the total gets much more than actual volume I also noticed this in your demonstration. You are holding a bottle of not much tha 1 litre and before you had passed half the water the meter was showing total 3.(something) l reading. I think it needs calliberation

How come your LCD screen says "VOL : 4.24 l/m" ? Isn't volume measured in ltres, and FLOW rate measured in litres per minute? Shouldn't it say flow rate 4.24 l/m? and volume 3.76 litres?

What if i put two pressure water sensor in a pipe on a known distamce, two measure the diiference.. Unless a potentiometer is integrated into the circuit, it will be tough to see the text on LCD. It would be great if you can include the same too.

Not at all. This is designed specially for water. If you want to measure air flow rate then go with annemometer.

I wondered if there is a sensor or device that could be installed between two 8mm PVC pipes that would measure the air flow and display the average in L/min on an LCD screen. Basically the pulseIn function return the time in milliseconds for which the pin is in the condition of HIGH or LOW so inorder to convert the time's unit to seconds we have to multiply with 10^6.

Hi I have bought a similar YFS201 sensor but want a simple flashing light to indicate that I left the swimming pool tap/faucet on that I use for refilling and pump priming. Some times I forget to turn it off overnight and get a very big water bill. Could I use a grove Differential Amplifier to boost the signal to a sufficient level that I could connect a joule thief to in order to power a few red leds to remind me that the tap/faucet is still on?

This won't work for oil. This sensor is only for water. Water and oil both has different viscosity and density.

@Muhammad Zar: Some flow meter's hall sensor require an additional pullup resistor ( mostly 2K2 ). I had mine up and running reliably with a TTL circuit hooked up between my flow meter and the Arduino.
