Uhhhh, he didn't give hardly any answers. "Water heater running out of hot water" He didn't say "Hot water not as hot after a while", or "Hot water not as hot as it usually is". The title of this video suggests the the hot water is fine but then runs out earlier than it did before. This is usually the lower element going bad, calcium covered so it doesn't transfer heat well once the cold water starts mixing, and sludge over the bottom element. Those problems are more common then the non stop blather about mixing valve and the dip tube. If the dip tube is snapped you'll notice after a couple minutes that it will be less hot than when you first got hot water but You'll have warm water for a looooonnnng time.

Liked and subscribed. A video that actually explains how to trouble shoot, THANK GOD! I was nervous to replace my mixing valve because I wasn't sure if that was the actual problem, but it for sure was. I never thought to just use common sense and if everything else works than it most likely is the shower valve (mixing valve to be specific). You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

Great video, saved me a service call. I am remodeling my bathroom and the plumber put in a new valve body for the tub/shower and was going install the valve after the tile guy finished. However, the hot and cold water to the tub weren't shut off, so the hot water flowed through the valve body to the cold water pipes, leaving me with the situation of only a few minutes of hot water before if got cold/warm (exactly like your "leaking shower valve" description). I simply turned off the cold water valve to the tub and it fixed the problem until the plumber installs the valve into the valve body. Weird situation.

Bro, I just bought a new old home, and I'm having this problem. The only thing is it happens with both my showers. It's hot for five minutes, then done! So my question is, if it's both showers and not the Faucets, what do you think the problem is. I changed the top element a few days ago, and the old one was nasty and busted. I'm looking to change the bottom one today. I figure if the top looked like that, then the bottom can't look any better. Your video was great, one of the best all the way around. That has been my problem for a while. I experience lukewarm or cold water at some faucets, especially the main shower. I have to physically push and hold the handle of the valve toward the hot side to get any hot water. The inner stem of that valve was replaced several months ago because it leaked and was partially deteriorated from corrosion, but I was unable to remove the outer sleeve with it due to being stuck inside the valve body. Since then, the valve will work its way open and I have to keep it closed by wedging an old broom handle between it and the opposite wall of the shower. I've watched other KZbin videos showing how to remove stuck Moen valves using special tools or other methods, but before that happens, I need to investigate why water doesn't flow from the head of a second shower. Water flows from that valve when I remove entire valve (stem and sleeve), (did some troubleshooting) but not from the showerhead. Possibly some obstruction between the valve and showerhead? Need to fix it first and have it functional before I tackle the main shower. Also, in order to get hot enough water at the kitchen sink faucet, I have to open the main bathroom sink faucet (turned to hot) to which in turn it runs cold water during that time. The same happens with the main bathroom sink faucet and having to open the second bathroom sink faucet in order to get hot water at the main bathroom sink. I attempted to drain sediment from the water heater a few months ago and found sand clogging the drain valve. That evidently was caused by the corroded underground galvanized pipe, which was replaced, from my well which was pulling in sand and debris a couple of years ago, causing all kinds of problems, and I failed to realize that the tank should have been drained at that time. I've seen other videos that show how to drain a tank when the drain valve is plugged. Just need to implement that soon. I willing to bet, that after watching your videos about dip tubes, that sediment and possibly a faulty dip tube could be the cause of all the problems. Also purchased a replacement anode rod and was planning to replace the old one but can't seem to break it loose. The age of the water heater is going on ten years.

I don’t know if you will see this as you posted this 6yrs ago. My hot water is running out after about 6-10 minutes in the shower. Prior to this I would have my dial pointing to the 5 O’Clock position the entire shower. Now I have to keep adding more hot until I only should have hot water coming into mixer and the water is cold! Interestingly, in the past as I’ve turned the dial to complete cold, the water never got cold. It stayed lukewarm. Our hot water heater is in the attic and I live in SE Texas. I have a gas hot water heater that is about 12ish years old.

I just installed a new gas hot water heater for my tenant on the second floor of a 3 family house. Now he has little water pressure in his shower and it’s not very hot. First, I would check the pressure relief valve before you go ripping apart the shower or switching out thermostats or mixing valves. It could simply be the plumber didnt let the air out of the tank/lines.

I have a 40 gallon gas A.O. water heater that runs hot water for about 20 seconds and then it's just luke warm and that's the case for all facets in the home. ok informative video but not sure if this is still well managed youtube channel but just in case i Have a question. i'm in the middle of kitchen renovations right now and 2 days ago my wife noticed that the water pressure is a bit low plus hot water is very minimal. so first thing i check was the main line of cold water. cool i found out that the main water valves wasn't ON all the way so i turned it to the "max" level. then we went to 3 day vacay. then my daughter noticed that the shower pressure is getting really low, it will start with a normal pressure then will slow down. so isolated the waiter pressure from the sink where i have a separate water control. Cold water control feels normal pressure is coming out. then when i turned on the Hot water control, it will start normal w/ hot water but eventually will die down as if hot water tank was getting emptied. Then few seconds again, I will turn water heater back on again then it will start normal then not even a minute hot water will ran out.. so what do you think could be the reason why? Thank you.

Hello, I have a rheem water heater about 3 years old the water is always is very lukewarm even if I set it to very hot. Sometimes both the hot side and cold side seems hot. My heater has a mixing valve connecting the hot and cold side (in Canada this is mandated to ensure there is no scalding)😮 to ensure there is . I tried opening the cold side. But the guide tube in the cold side is kind of deep and doesn’t easily come out. So I put it back to the way it was..How do I know whether the issue is with the dip tube or the mixing valve above the water heater? Would appreciate your insight. Thanks.

You have great videos! I have done a lot of troubleshooting today. I have two showers furthest from my (2) 9 year old, 40 gallon WHs with recirculating pump, that is loosing hot water within 1-2 mins., like a 20 degree drop and the holds steady at 105 and 111 degrees for each respective shower. WHs are turned up and mixing valves set to allow max hot water. I do notice popping/crackling sound with one WH. Meanwhile, my kitchen sinks and other shower nearer to WHs are 140-135 degrees steady, no drop. The hot side pipes on both WHs are hot to the touch when checked after temp drops. Can two shower valves be bad? Also, we always lose hot water in these 2 showers when washer or dishwasher is on. I'd appreciate answering this too. Thanks!!

Hello We just bought a new gas water heater. We are only getting luke warm water at best. Its new but it just doesnt heat at all. Need help?
@216Numbskull4 жыл бұрын
@Hector Govea , Is it "gas" or "electric"? Did you have it installed, or did you install it yourself? Has this been the issue of being just lukewarm right from the start of turning it on? These few simple questions need answered first to know what we're dealing with and who?
@hectorgovea85904 жыл бұрын
@@216Numbskull it’s gas. We self-installed it well had a family friend installed it . It’s been like warm from the start. It really never gets warm. We want return the darn thing . I’m not sure
@216Numbskull4 жыл бұрын
@@hectorgovea8590 Your friend does have knowledge of HWT installations right? Reason I ask is to eliminate common mistakes that people who think they know, make common mistakes. One of the biggest mistakes made and reason for the problem your having on gas water tank installs is connecting your copper pipe fittings to the new tank. If they made the new connection by sweating the pipe (soldering it) while the copper fitting were connected to the tank, that most likely will cause the problem? Reason being they may have heated that fitting up so hot that the tank also gets to hot ruining the dip tube. Secondly, is your gas valve set at the proper temperature? It might sound silly but I've seen simple things overlooked. You should have it set @ 120 to 125 range. Do not set temp any higher it could scald someone not paying attention. It also could be unfortunately a bad unit altogether that you bought, may have got a lemon, or bought a brand you weren't aware of that constantly has issues due to cheap parts? Plus, if you have a hot water recirculation system, the check valve may be bad and needs replaced? And again I know this sounds kind of dumb, but make sure the lines are installed on the proper sides, C to C, H to H. Start there to rule out the issue. Best to you!
@hectorgovea85904 жыл бұрын
@@216Numbskull thank you for the advice. I guess this friend might have thought he knew. I know he didnt use soldering. He just connected the supply line. I did see that he was tightening them really tight. He might damage the cold side where the dip tube is. As for the temperature I have it at 120 but doesn’t get hot so it’s not an option right now but I will see what I can figure out. I am thinking checking the dip tube. I appreciate your advice
