Man, every time I watch a video from you I get so excited to plant the rain and some awesome trees! It will be a little while more before we implement the larger rainwater harvesting system but I am experimenting with planting the rain in other places! If you are interested in traveling to Greece for an water harvesting / earthworks / PDC course, let me know. You have a small fan-base here, your sparkling identity and one-liners became a running joke in the last PDC I taught. Much laughter was had and much information was shared this way! :D

Been using wash water since the 1970’s. My first house did not have a washer hook up so the next best thing was to run 2 inch PVC out to the back yard, it was against code back then so I had to keep it under my hat. Always had the best looking bush on the block. All new construction should be made to use washing machine water for outside plants.

So. Can I add an additional 3-way valve AFTER the grey water system that would hook in from the cold water intake from the washer? This way I could run city into the same irrigation system if I weren’t washing my clothes enough.

Hi Mr Lancaster. I've been wanting to buy your book for a while now, from the recommendation of Verge Permaculture. But I am hesitant for one small reason. Your book is titled in a way that makes me wonder if it would be adequate to my climate, which is definitely not dryland. I live in Canada, so in a very cold climate with far below freezing temps half the year, and a medium humid environment. I know I'd find plenty of useful information in your book but but how adapted to cold climate are your designs/tips?

All the passive water harvesting strategies apply to your climate too - you just need to change the plant selection so the plants are appropriate for your micro and macroclimates.

Probably have to use a pump to pump it where you need in that case since gravity wouldn’t be on your side

Is this safe for fruit trees?
@HarvestingRainwater2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely - the trees in the video that are receiving greywater are fruit trees.

You didn't answer the question! You only repeated what we already know. You're using polluted gray water on your fruit trees. The person asking the question asked if it was safe to do so. It makes me wonder why you were sidestepping and avoiding answering the question; especially since you've written books, that seemed so very popular with people I wouldn't trust you as far as I could throw you.

@@GuitarUniverse2013 While Geoff Lawton showed in his permaculture place that his greywater goes through a reed bed first to filter off whatever's not too nice, but hey, the tree is also some sort of a filter, if you use the right detergents (see 2:34), surely that's better than having an unknown quantity of unknown pesticides and fertilizers pumped into your citrus fruits? Just a thought.

I don't understand how or why you're using gray water to water food plants. Doesn't that result in pollution of the food? I've always heard/read the gray water usage should be confined to plants that don't end up as a meal on someone's plate!
