Water Pressure Booster Pump Hot Water Flow Solution

Our House has a Negative Head System which means we have very poor flow and low pressure on hot water upstairs. I fitted a standard water pressure booster pump but the top floor shower was higher than the cold storage tank and there wasn't enough water pressure to operate the booster pump micro switch. The solution was to fit a different booster pump designed for Negative pressure systems and that pump was a Salamander CT Force 30SU with a built in pressure vessel and this made all the difference. We now have full hot water pressure at the highest point ( upstairs shower, I also fitted a shower pump) and every other hot water tap in the house is superb. This solution worked out great and has saved us thousands having the whole house re plumbed. take that in to consideration before making a comment saying we should have moved the tank into the upper loft.

OK. So.... can I please ask you a question. Can I use this on the hot outlet of my tankless water heater? I've got the heater on my kitchen wall and the shower hose goes through the wall straight onto the shower head in the bathroom. The pressure is decent but I'd like to boost it. If I connect this directly to the water heaters outlet, will it boost the pressure to my shower head? Many thanks

Well done Sharon - you did good - lots of patience wat with Martin Banging' on about negative heads. I have a Salamander pump - its in my loft in my Bungalow. Fitted it 10 years ago and still going well.

Electric shower uses the cold water mains. Would it not be worth increasing the incoming mains?

No, electric showers work by heating the water as they go through, the colder the incoming water temp, the more you have to strangle the flow to allow more time for it to heat the water, giving you a poor flow. Bigger showers like 10kw don’t make much of a difference.

Hi Martin, You are treating the symptom, not the cause, why not put the cylinder in the loft area and change to a positive head system.

It was a £260 fix. That's better than all the upheaval of re routing all the plumbing costing thousands, I thought I made that clear in the video.

It makes no difference where the hot water cylinder is, it’s the head from the cold tank that provides flow and pressure.
