Just replaced my water pump with your help! No leaks after the install and no more noisy impeller bearing noise. Woo-hoo! Thanks for taking the time to provide a step-by-step video. I had my doubts, but I did it and I consider myself an intermediate to advanced do-it-yourself mechanic. It's not an extremely hard job, but it's very tedious (make sure that you place all the parts that you remove in bins with the bolts in them so you can put them back on the same way they came off. There are many bolts that you will remove in various lengths). Also thanks for showing all the tools needed to do the job. This was definitely a time-saver and took the guess work out of the equation. I live 10 minutes away from Harbor Freight Tools and picked up all of the tools I needed for under $100. I picked up an OEM (Ansin) water pump from Amazon for $80 shipped, used 2 gallons of Valvoline coolant from Wal-Mart @ $12 each gallon. Also purchased some silicone from Auto Zone specific for water pumps just for safe measure for $7. The entire job took me about 4-5 hours because I also replaced the VVT oil line to an all metal one while I had everything out.

Great video! I usually do my own fixes but was intimidated by the amount of work involved here. when I was quoted a price of 750 to 850 by the stealership I decided to give it a try. Watched this video several times and followed the steps. Took me about 12 hours( I move slow on this kind of stuff) and fixed it myself! Thanks for this. You guys saved me a lot of money!

I don't remember seeing in the video you reconnecting the ground strap back to the back lower front motor mount also on top of the thermostat housing tube is a air bleed out valve that you should have shown to remove all the air out of this closed system. also the block and water pump are machined finished there's no need for any sealant, they're wasn't any on from the factory. If the surfaces are clean correctly you won't need any kind of sealant. The factory does not recommend any on any rubber o rings or rubber gaskets.. It could cause the gasket to squeeze out. Other than that a very well presentation of repair work

Great video and step by step instructions. Few stuffs I'll add or do different would be: - 1) I would only unbolt the right side bottom and top motor mount to avoid the exhaust making contact with the body of the car when you lift it up. You want the engine to lift sideways as opposed to straight up bcuz of the possibility of braking the exhaust if it goes straight up. 2) I would not use any adhesive or sealant on the o-rings or around the gasket bcuz when you go remove them in the future, it will be a real pain and can take up to an hour or more of your time when you clean those adhesive from surfaces and stuff. The 2 new o-rings and the waterpump gasket that comes with the kit is sufficient enough to prevent leaks. Instead, use a medium blue lock tight on couple of the 12 mm bolts on each side of the water pump. 3) After starting all the bolts on the water pump by hand, I would ONLY run 2 bolts at the far left and 2 bolts at the far right side of the water pump down and then spin the water pump pulley few times to make sure there are no drags against the water pump gasket itself and adjust the gasket as needed if there is any drag or friction against the gasket, especially if you are using an aftermarket water pumps. If everything is good, I'll then go ahead and torque the bolts down to specs. 4) After installing the water pump, thermostat housing and serpentine belt, and before installing ANY of the Engine mounts and before lowering the engine, I'll fill the radiator and start the engine and watch for leaks. That way you can easily make any adjustments if there are any leaks bcuz you'll be a step or two away from either the thermostat or water pump as opposed to finding out after you have put everything back together, which will be several steps away and can be deflating. So other than these few tips and adjustments, it was a GREAT video and step by step instructions, keep up the Great work.

Re: Unbolting motor mounts Unfortunately my pump went, just after going to Firestone for tire rotation. Imagine my surprise when I looked for lug key, and it was missing!!! Jerks! I did this work w/o removing tire! I was unable to reach lower engine mount on passenger side. So my engine went straight up. Completely unbolting front mount was a must for me. My 2010 RX350 exhaust has a flexible joint down by cat? that prevents bending/breaking.

I like how easy it is to get to the pump with the engine up. I changed mine and cracked the exhaust flex pipe, because the position and orientation of the flex pipe - and how it is supported - is not happy when the engine is just lifted straight up - as you did here - unless you undo the nearest bracket to the flex pipe, that is securing it to the underbody. The flex pipe is made, and positioned, to flex when the engine itself rocks/rotates (which is forward and backward), but not when you go straight up. Just a word to those who may consider doing a WP change like this. I suggest you free the flex pipe up, before lifting the engine. OR....at LEAST take a look at it, and see how it bends, as you lift the engine. They do not sell these flex pipe sections separately, and the exhaust pipe it is a part of, Lexus wants over $1,100 for it. Other than that - outstanding video! Thanks!

He didn't lift the engine straight up; only on passenger side. But, still a good idea to keep an eye on that flex pipe. I've seen other removal procedures where the engine was not lifted up as high. And instead of completely removing the top motor mount bolt/nut, you can unscrew, but not completely remove, the nuts at the bottom of the motor mounts; there are 3 on each mount. Loosening those and the top bolt/nut should give you about 3 inches of engine lift. I need to do this on our ES350 with over 200K. Video does look helpful - thanks!.

Of the 4 or 5 step-by-step videos for installing a water pump in the V6 Camry/Lexus ES350, this was the most thorough, but I see some errors that should be pointed out. 1. Bolt torque settings: 15 ft/lbs for the 12 mm bolts, and 80 in/lbs for the 10 mm bolts. You need not worry about mixing up the bolts as all the 12mm are the same length; and all the 10mm bolts are also the same length. 2. If you use silicone gasket maker, you have to let it cure for 24 hours; otherwise, the silicone can separate into the coolant. Some products, like the Right Stuff by Permatex can be put into service right away. That product was not used here. 3. Don't use air or battery powered tools on hose clamps; you can easily over-tighten them. General torque setting for a half inch wide worm drive clamp is about 40 lbs/in. 4. You should not put silicone adhesive/sealant on O-rings; it's going to make it very difficult to remove the parts next time. Siilicone lube is recommended for O-rings; it keeps the rubber lubed and pliable, preventing leaks. All that being said, thanks for taking time to put this together. I replaced the water pump in our ES350 today. It had 218980 miles and was the OEM water pump. The bearing had a little play; so, I was glad I decided to replace it. The most difficult part was removing the thermostat housing from that rubber hose. A door panel screwdriver came in very handy here. It curves at the end and was perfect for lifting the rubber off the metal hose inlet; just be careful not to put deep grooves into the metal inlet. I also replaced the bearings in the tensioner pulley - yes, it has two bearings - 12mm wide, by 40mm diameter, by 17mm ID. But, I found out the Gates/ACDelco #36174 pulley/bearing is a perfect fit. I had this pulley as a backup to my Tacoma's idler#1 pulley; but, it's now in the Lexus.

Took me about an entire day's work all said and done. Would have took even less the time if it weren't for running to the auto store a few times to purchase some tools I didn't have. I was quoted $1200 from the dealership to do the repair. It was technically an overheating issue, so wasn't sure if it was just going to be just the water pump. Turns out the water pump bearing was totally shot, and all the coolant leaked out over time, causing the engine to over heat. Thankfully, no further damage occurred because of the overheating.

One more point to add. There is a air bleed valve on the top center of the engine - water pump side. It's brass. When I filled the radiator as you did in the video here, I did not get enough coolant in the engine (by a number of quarts, actually). Open the bleed valve and fill the radiator, and watch the bleed valve for coolant to come out. Once it does, you are at a good starting point. At least then you will be close to having enough fluid in there. Go in the car and turn the heater on to HOT, or the highest temperature the auto climate control will let you set it. Pray for heat (: If you get heat, it is a good sign that the cooling system is full, or very close to full. I usually measure approximately how much fluid I took out, and if I can't get at least that much fluid back in, it tells me (for sure) that the system is not full (yet). The radiator cap is lower than the engine, so having the radiator look full, does not mean there isn't a lot of air still in the engine (instead of coolant).

Did the job today at the shop. No sealant used other then gasket maker in 2 of the 12MM bolts. Just used the seals/gaskets provided and torqued to spec. No leaks, all data quotes 4 hours. No way this job can be done in 4. Maybe a master Lexus mechanic. Using a tool to hold the water pump pulley helps a lot in order to tighten the bolts up. Mark where the bolts for the mounts go because theyre all long and different sizes. Didn't need to remove top bolt of mount. Just the bottom 3 17mm bolts and the motor will jack up enough to clear.
