Thanks for a great video. I have a mechanics manual that I have been using for years on my Colorado, which lists all the torque specs and tool recommendations, but unfortunately the pictures don't tell much and without videos, you can't really see all of what you are getting into. So I ordered the same pulley tool from Amazon because it says it fits the vehicle and sure enough the studs were too big for the holes in the pulley. Mine were welded so I cut them off with a grinder and drilled new holes. Used 5m bolts and it worked out great (used 12" crescent wrench for the fan).

For those that don't have the spanner tool, An old mechanics trick is to use an air hammer with a chisel point if you have one and go against the flat on the nut to the left side, it will shock the fan nut loose very easily.. reverse to install.

Wondering what size bolts you used for the pulley tool when you pulled the pins that came with it.

Great question @tomp3346. We had to improvise. So we found two bolts that fit into the pulley holes, then secured the bolts to the tool. We don't know the exact size. But, all you'll need to do is find a size that will fit in the pulley hole. Hope this helps!

@hopfammedia Thanks for the response. I used a piece of clean paper and made a rubbing of the hole, looks to be about 6mm across though I don't know what # machine screw that is, just waiting for the tool to arrive from Amazon.

I'm planning on replacing the fan clutch and water pump assembly, including the fan. Would it be possible to remove the bolts to the fan, then the bolts to the pulley, without taking off the fan clutch bolt, in order to get to the water pump?

Possibly, but I find trying to work around stuff instead of removing it can tend to take up a lot more time than just removing the part. I hope this helps, please let us all know of your progress.

Wouldnt you be able to take the screws off the pulley if you had left the belt on and then took the tension off?

I did this recently and the special tool from the auto parts store, being thin and the nut being on for many years, did not work. So i had to remove the pump, pully and fan as a unit, not easy nor fun. I had to cut the pump apart with a right angle grinder, then get a pipe wrench on the square fan nut, it finally came apart.
