I’m heating my garage with a truck radiator ,50 gallon water heater, 4500cfm attic fan and a boiler pump…. Been watching your videos to brush up on the principles 😂 and it’s working great 👍

Great video ! I have unico system and seems to not have any room for a water to heat exchanger ( want to get an outdoor wood boiler.)The duvts that the hot air is forced through is connected straight to it. Could I build a plenum in between my unico system and the duct work ?
@AltheatsupplyLLC2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do that. Jeff

My plenum od measure 20.125"x16.25" to be exact. You don't seem to sell any heat exchangers in that size. What advice would you have for getting a quality exchanger or do you make custom sizes? My ac exchanger is a lennox M/N C35-30/36B-2F-20 for reference. It's on a propane forced air furnace.

no sorry, no customs sizes either. to expensive

Can the water in boiler heat coil really freeze if placed directly above an A-coil in an updraft furnace? I don’t think the air gets that cold.

Thanks for the info... really helped. What are the typical efficiencies of a hotwater to air heat exchanger?

Hey love all your videos thanks. I'm now using an outdoor boiler to heat my indoor pool water. I added a water to air exchanger like in your videos. It seems my air flow is now reduced. Is it common to increase blower fan size when using this set up? The original heater is just a massive electric coil in the duct. Lots of heat, expensive, but no air Flo restriction.

The heat exchanger might be dirty and need to be cleaned. If air can't through, increasing the fan this will help temporarily.

Jeff,,,,I’d suppose on my horizontal trane furnace I’d put the HE before the ac coil ...any thoughts

Is a heat exchangers a must with a open wood boiler system??

Any difference at all of hot is on top or bottom of the exchanger. I assume there is no difference as it's not specified anywhere.
@AltheatsupplyLLC2 жыл бұрын
It is hard to get air out is why you want the other way.

Air bubbles in water always flow upward. Supply to the bottom, return out the top. Blow a fart in a swimming pool and bubbles always return upward. Good example, not trying to be smart.

Thank you Jeff , I have hot water in floor heat . Sometimes when its really cold this would help . I have a Lochinvar boiler that provides hot water to four zones in my house , each on its own cir, pump .I have a fifth pump installed in system for garage that I will never hook up to garage pipe . I intend to hook this pump up to the water coil suppy , and the return pipe from the coil back to return line of my system . The water going out from the lochinvar boiler is 173 degrees , is this hot enough to make a difference going through this water coil in my furnace ? thanks Dave

173 Degrees is plenty to heat with a water coil...

Hey Jeff...what would be the downside of putting this exchanger in the air plenum duct well beyond the unit ? IE the foam duct rather than the metal plenum?

hey man.i like your channel and subscribed,however i feel i need to pass on a piece of advice from one pro to another.i,ve been in the hvac trade for 24 yrs,saying that,i completely understand what your doing mechanically in your films....now there is a good chance that joe home owner may lose something in translation...for instance in your film about using a outdoor boiler with a indoor boiler heat exchanger,you mentioned if there was a problem spring/fall about the primary chamber cooling and adding a zone off of the prv,there was no mention of the prv being under pressure.just imagine joe homeowner just unscrewing said prv to add a t fitting and the boiler is full of 180 degree water and 20 psi...ouch...im only saying this because i know of a guy who offered some friendly advice and a individual started his house on fire.well the friendly advice giver got sued!...again,not nit pickin,just passing along a piece of advise...cover your ass,make some disclaimers!

One thing not mentioned here that is critical is to make sure the the heat exchanger is protected by a filter. Most furnaces have the filter in the return, right by the furnace, so if you mount the exchanger in the return, make sure install it downstream of the filter or relocate the filter to protect the exchanger.
@AltheatsupplyLLC2 жыл бұрын
Don't recommend installing in the return for that reason and a couple others, like overheating the blower. Jeff
