I am using this method quite commonly as well but I like that you are showing this mechanism in detail for people who do not use/understand it yet. But there are rumors that this will likely be changed in future version because it's actually not intended which is logical because it makes no sense IRL. :D
@scottjackson1636

this is actually close to how water towers and fluid dynamics work. If I put a rain collection tank up high I can pipe that water to anything just under the same height. I can even fill a barrel from the BOTTOM provided the incoming water source is higher than the barrel. This is why in places like new york they have towers on top of the sky scrapers because its the easiest way to get water all though the tower, U just have to pump it up once and store it, then it drains DOWN into the tower. The only change needed would be to require the buffer be higher than the input really. the pressure usually stays good too as long as the source is higher than the output. The MK2 pipes on the other hand would have to be twice the SIZE of the MK1 pipes to flow twice the rate at the same pressure if I remember my science correctly. None of that bugs me as much as the materiel requirements to make a cartridge of ammo though. Currently I should be making self guided explosive ammo with what I am putting into it. And I load 10 in to one slot at the same time which is not how guns work. You can load 10 BULLETS in a cartridge then load that into the gun but you don't phase 10 huge cartridges' into one slot, and no bullet requires a beacon. A little copper, a little powder, done. maybe a tiny bit of sulfur for a primer. add some iron or aluminum to make it into a magazine. Then it would make sense.
@rlnt
@rlnt 3 жыл бұрын
@@scottjackson1636 While you are true with your explanation, this doesn't describe the method that was applied here. I know real water towers exist in the way you explained it but it's not possible to share pressure with the input pipe from the water tower especially if the pump is next to it because the pump wouldn't be able to push more water into the pipe because of the high pressure. You can't apply the same pressure to the input pipe by dragging it up a tower and when it comes down reattaching it to the same pipe.
@rlnt
@rlnt 3 жыл бұрын
And exactly that is what they mentioned to be maybe fixed in future updates. But as I said, these are just rumors. It's just a game and it wouldn't be a problem if some things stay unrealistic. :D

@scottjackson1636 3 жыл бұрын
@@rlnt yeah I agree there is no real reason to change it. No telling what a civilization that can materialize objects out of raw materials could do. But I did say that it was close. as long as the out put is lower than the input the pressure usually stays good. not like we really measure water pressure at the output expect for "good" and "bad". and Bad is usually fixed at the output side or near it. pressure washers for example. And I could drag a pipe up the side of a building and hook it to the bottom of a tank on that building, as long as that tank is lower than the source that tank will fill. You can then drain it down into the building, rebuilding pressure and output. water seeks its level. Ahh discussing fluid dynamics. something I never thought I would be doing. the internet is weird.

@@scottjackson1636 IRL the higher the water tank is off the ground the more gravity pulls it back down. If you have a 3 story building with a water tower on it and a 30 story building with the same, the 30 story building should have 10x the head pressure as the 3 story building. I do not think this number is factored into this game because ive tried it in mine.

Thanks dude. I actually got that working pretty well on my own coal plants But this showed me a few things I didn't think about when i did it on mine. Of course my coal plant is half the size of yours and I have 2 in 2 different locations on the grass plain. But when I get the steel plant done I will get the tier 3 belts and upgrade all of them to be bigger. So far I have built every plant except the steel plants and reinforced beam plant, I placed them on the grass land plateau right above the 3 normal iron mines. In a nice square pattern and feeding into a giant mall in the center with the HUB and space elevator. Looks pretty good. I also like to leave the buildings open without outer walls, mainly because of the hit my old comp gets with a lot of glass walls.

Similar issue. I'm in the exact same location, but using Compacted Coal (125/s output from 5xConstructors, burn rate of 7.14/m or 1/8.4s per generator). I could build 17.5 coal generators, and underclock to about 93%, or overclock generators by 9% and have only 16 generators, but then I would need to either overclock 6 water extractors also by 9%, or build 7 and underclock a bit. I think the 16 generators would look cleaner than 18, and a 7th water extractor should fit. I'll want this to be expandable to something like 64 generators, or 128, or whatever the max miners and conveyors allow, then match water. But I could easily fit 19 pumps from cliff face to ocean limit. 3 pumps are about as wide as 4 generators. So it'd be 18/3 or 6 banks of 4 generators each, or just 24 total. So a 2x24 bank if I mirror them on each side. And repeat that 2x24 or 48 another 4 times easily, for 192. But laying out the pipes is my biggest challenge. I never seem to get good flow to all 8 test generators. The plant dies if I shut off biomass burners, because the water sputters, can't match demand.

Concrete? Concrete only takes 1 step to make bro. Choose your limestone node purity, miner type, and miner clock speed based on how much concrete you want to produce with your production line, then split the miner's output into multiple belts and feed them into underclocked constructors - the input of which matching the output of the miners. Then route the outputted concrete to a storage container or better - a truck station where tractors can take them to a centralized spot from where you can easily grab them. It's barely a "factory" and is hardly worth a video. It's more of a decentralized "production cell" and I build them wherever I find a pure limestone node, which seems to always be on it's own - it doesn't take a whole lot of time and could come in handy later once I have enough materials to run a trucking network that takes limestone from all these nodes and puts them in one place.

I've got some questions - I've been trying to get this to work but haven't yet been successful. 1. Does the fluid buffer at the top of the tower have to be at the exact same height as the coal generators? Can it be higher? 2. Does the way in which you connect your water extractors to the outgoing pipes from the tower matter? I notice you have them all feeding "in line" with the bottom pipes. I have 300m3/min coming from 3 extractors into a pipe, and that pipe then being attached to one of the four output pipes from the tower. I'm trying to get 900m3/min of water to 10 fully overclocked coal generators using this but haven't had success getting the water to actual rise into the coal generators with this method.
@Scalti
@Scalti 2 жыл бұрын
1. Fluid buffer must be at least the height of whatever machines you’re feeding. 2. How they connect does not matter. Just need them to join the key pipe but you also need to make sure you’re not bottlenecking. Based on your comment you have 3 extractors feeding into a single pipe but how is that feeding the coal generators? Are they all being fed from a single pipe or have you properly divided the pipes to the generators based on the 300/m limitation of MK1 pipes?
@forgd2856
@forgd2856 2 жыл бұрын
@@Scalti So I've got two pipes feeding each set of 5 generators - Currently one is feeding 3 (which should be 270/m) and the other is feeding 2 (180/m). Yes it actually is! The simplest way to explain it is that the pump adds "head" (which is how energy in fluids is stored) to the system. This pump head is then converted to static head (the energy contained simply by height) by filling the fluid buffer. This static head is then converted to pressure head via gravity in the other lines, which is then converted to vertical head again going back up to the coal generator.
@lancer827
@lancer827 3 жыл бұрын
The other responses are talking about the general concepts of pressure and the way water towers work. Yes, this is the same is in real life, at least roughly. The thing that is different is what he talks about a 3:35 when he mentions that, as long as you have a water tower, the pressure (or rather max heard height) is constant past that point even though it has other water sources. His setup with the two sources (one pressurized and one not) feeding the one tank wouldn't work out. Water would circulate through the "key" pipe and then right back to the start, never building up enough pressure to go up the second tower.

It isn’t (in my personal opinion) worth making a dedicated factory for those items. Those are finite in necessity and makes more sense to put together a temporary system and manually loading storage containers.

I use only the few pumps to lift the water as high as possible with a huge buffer on top and then I don't need pumps on the rest of the map anymore. Why are from ever YTber that I saw all so morronically short 😂just makevit as high as the game allows. The water in this game has neither viscosity nor pressure. You can make the pipes horizontally as long as you want you only have to provide head. And if the head is well above everything that is in the map then you can place your pipes everywhere without placing on single pump (except for the pumps for the mega water tower)
@Scalti

It’s short because this was for demonstration and not an actual play through.

@@Scalti I actually setup the very same pipe network, water tower to the height of the coal gen, 6 water extractors, 16 coal gen, 240 coal per minute, but with update 4 I had to add one extractor since some of the coal gens randomly shut off for having low water.
@Scalti

That is a side effect of the new way power is managed. Once it’s all up and running again the ratio is still 3:8. The water getting pumped up doesn’t catch up fast enough because generators now run at 100% consumption all the time. Once it does you’re good to go. Had the same issue.
@robertosola4660

@@Scalti thanks for the fast answer. I imagined that keeping up starting from 0 could be the issue, or that something changed in fluid physics. I went back after a while and switched off the asymmetrical, badly placed and completely unaesthetic water extractor and water levels kept stable.

@@Scalti the mass of your head lift water must exceed the mass of the water you want to move. This game feature is like a drinking straw full of water, having any effect on a pipeline. As you say, it’s a fantasy game, I get that. I play all my games vanilla, I would look on this like non train collisions, a feature not intended for final game. If they update the physics, I am good to go…..planning ahead.
