The splash of gold leaf on the yellow is a great touch.

Amazing! I love how you got the white scale spots effect simply as a neat side effect of the black ink bleeding through the water. I’m excited to try this out. Thank you!

Hi Kris, I enjoyed your tutorial on the Koi. Do you find that the black ink you use, gives a richer result than black transparent watercolors? Heather

Overall, I love this painting. I love using touches of guache on watercolor for details that just aren't quite deep enough for watercolor or ink to do. However, I've used gold leaf a couple of times. I've never really liked it very much, and I do think it detracts from your painting here. One of the products I often use when I want that 3D and glittering effect is iridescent watercolors by DiVinci. They do a much more pleasant job, to me. And it looks more like it fits in with the rest of the techniques with watercolor and ink. I'll often touch it with the tip of a Sumi brush right at the tip of the tube, and then apply. Beautiful, glittering, and give a great 3D look. Don't get me wrong...I love this painting. The form is fantastic, and that's 90% of a painting like this.

Kris......I painted your koi fish with just watercolours, as I have no ink. It was fun and is a great exercise to " loosen up " my style. I am pleased with the result. Keep up the great tutorials.
