WOW! I was watching with fascination wondering how those colors would make a cloud….then BOOM….there it was….a cloud in the sky! I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation. I’m just starting out. Natural talent like this astounds me. I have zero of it. But I am hoping that with enough of a knowledge base and skill I can eventually approach the paper in such a relaxed manner with water amount, brush size, mixing colors, palette messiness and paper wetness. At this point, I’m Mrs. Hospital Corners in the process. My paper would be in tatters….. starting with the color primer on the paper….brilliant. I’ve done this with acrylic but not watercolor. I also haven’t seen anyone use such large brushes nor staple the paper to the board. I liked it all! THANK YOU, Woody!

This is the best, most luscious, dirty in a good way, watercolor tutorial I've ever seen. Mr Benton is generous with his colors, his brushes and his explanations, his style is wonderful and those are the most realistic watercolor clouds I've ever seen. I hope he is OK. No videos in 11 months. I would love to see him work again, it's spectacular. Thank you Sir, please post more!!

@sisterwrath1773 I agree! I, too, hold great respect for his talent! What’s more: I Absolutely LOVE how the video is non-rehearsed, and raw… Surely most viewers can see: that within him lay an innate drive to create/paint… And: his explanations are clear, direct, meaningful & manageable for a newbie like myself!😮 Most importantly: like you, I hope he’s okay! No videos have been posted since 😢

Absolutely stunning!!! So amazing to watch that come alive and how brave you were with the colors...and kept at it until you were happy and it was Absolutely beautiful!! Sky and water are my favorite subjects and I always make sure to have my camera especially during storm season because clouds are just so gorgeous and always different. I know I have a ridiculous amount of photos, but I can't help myself when its beautiful knowing it's what I want to truly work on in watercolor. And once I'm healed up I will be following your lead here and try your method. I appreciate your sharing this and hope to see more :) thank you!

Actually, it would have been great if the cameraman took close ups of you painting on the paper from your left as you paint with your right hand. It could show more of your brush work. Also, most artists won't say it but it is true that watercolor is all about values. It's great that you mentioned it. And yes, please don't move the camera too much, it's confusing.

I also do the “Michael Jordan tongue” myself anytime I’m focusing on anything, especially when I’m painting 😂 Mr. Benton don’t play. That’s years of experience at understanding what’s most important in a painting and how to achieve that effect with the least possible steps. Very straight forward that’s what we all should be trying to achieve and working towards

Is that half a sheet imperial? You stapled the paper to avoid back-runs I gather. I purchased Arches cold pressed 300 Lb and I like it since it’s very forgiving. I feel I learn the most with that brand and weight. However, I do like the “one paint a day” cliché and all but it’s an expensive paper to play with exclusively. Saunders 200 Lb is always backorder so i have ruled that one out. Suggestions? The sky you painted is the star but the addition at the bottom turned it into a stupendous landscape/picture :)

Probably stretched it first. You can see that it is stapled to his board. It’s the only way I know to keep the paper from buckling.
