For the past few months I've been edging back into drawing and painting, using both watercolors (Sennelier student, 10 colors) and water based markers (Ohuhu, until I decide whether markers will work for me) after several decades when work intervened. I just came upon your video a few days ago. It's exactly the sort of thing I've been looking for. Now I've subscribed to your YT channel and I need to look you up on FB. Thank you for the feedback Annie, these markers are really wonderful to work with but they do take a little bit of practice because they behave differently to just regular paint on the end of a brush. I’m glad my video helped on your journey

Thank you for demonstrating watercolor markers. I'm enjoying water color, watercolor pencils and water-brushes so very much. My reservation about the markers is the amount of plastic and that they'll run out without my being aware, then.... no color. Then more plastic. I'm not eco-squeeky, but try to be respectful. refillable? if not W&N, are there other brands that may be. Again, I love your art verbs. I feel them as you do your creations. Beautiful and intuitive.

Thank you so much for your comment Mary, I’m afraid I don’t really know if there are refillable, watercolor, markers, etc. that’s something that I think you’ll have to find through research and asking lots of questions of other artists. But I do understand the dilemma of not wanting to pollute the world with more plastic..🙁🙁

I found this watercolor markers by coincidence in another towns shop and wasn't quite sure if I should get them or not. When I surfed for more info I found this video. Now I am a proud owner of a set of 12.

Yes these sketches are done on watercolor paper, usually a journal with cold press paper in it.. 😊

France Zeve yes I often will begin with a photo reference but mostly I deviate from it during my process of painting. I would rather let things happen, and have that surprise element. I never stick to a photo reference verbatim..

Enjoyed your wonderful video and demo. On a limited palette of markers, what would you recommend a few colors to get started...like 12 or so?

I left a substantial list of my most used markers on Facebook.. which I think you read Rose.. For others ..who don’t use FB.. these are the ones I recommend people to begin with. Lemon yellow, cad yellow medium, cad orange, permanent magenta, permanent rose, cobalt blue, Cerulean blue, French ultramarine blue, sap green, burnt Sienna, quinacridone gold.. I think those mentioned cover my most used markers, I might have mentioned other colors originally, but if you stick to a couple of each primary color, warm and cool, and a brown or two, you should be good to go.

Thanks Rae! I love seeing your technique for using the W & N watercolor markers. I've not seen anyone else using them this way. I noticed you didn't use the waterbrush when you did the demo - was there a reason you switched to a regular brush? (guessing a jar of water was out of view....)

I only use a water brush when I am painting en plein air on my trips Diana. And even then I might still take a small round brush with me which is larger than the water brush. It depends on my mood.

Hello Rea - Thank you for a lovely class. I would like to know which watercolour paper do you use with the W&N Markers? I had to buy W&N watercolour paper because I find the markers do not always work as good on many other makes. 🌹

Thank you so much Bardotte. I have never used W/N watercolor paper. I nearly always use Arches CP paper #140 It seems to work well for me.. but many other papers will work I think, like Strathmore for one. I have used journals of this paper and it’s fine. Good luck.. 😊😊
