As an engineer, I love to see how your creativity isnt just limited to your art..but also transfers over to how you come up with creative ways to accomplish tasks (like the magnets on your water container). I'ts great to see the boundary between art/engineering/design/tinkering... all flow from a creative mind.

If there is one thing i know about actual Masters, is that they often create new tools out of necessity. Da Vinci apparently discovered this new red chalk and got raphael and michaelangelo to use it in their anatomy sketches, because it resembled flesh. So you look at these drawings by raphael and they use that same chalk, they were always tinkering.

@@DClean Yea. I have to wonder how many budding artists quit because of bad teachers. It's a shame. It took me a long time to get over some of the "teachings" I received. I'm not a good artist, I just do it for fun...........and I had to teach myself that art is supposed to be pleasurable.......not just a set of RULES.

As someone who struggles to get most quality watercolor from the store on-sight I've noticed that the brightest - looking pans are so bright because of the chalk mixed in for cheapness. And the darker the pan is the more it's a pure, translucent pigment. Those pitch-black pans, so dark they require swatches, bring be a lots of joy. You know they will glow on paper.

I bought the full version of this "Watercolour in the Wild" off of Gumroad and found it worth the price. The palette and tools information you provide is great as well as the ideas for creating portable easels. I appreciated that you mentioned - when you were doing the Spadina greenhouse - the amount of time you had to work with. Often when we watch art videos it seems like the artist has a completely different set of laws of physics to work with than the rest of us. Knowing how long each step took was a great include.

Mr. Gurney, I admire you very much and you are a great inspiration for my art. I walk around watercolor painting around my city and paint on postcard size paper, I try to be adventurous about my outings. A lot of people like my small size paintings and offer to buy them...but I cant let my paintings go; they are too priceless for me, and I think I'm wrong about this....Is this common with other artist painters?

Hello Mr. Gurney! I was wondering which pans you use in the larger watercolor palette. I've never seen pans in that size before! I love using large brushes these look absolutely perfect for it. Thank you. And greetings from Holland.
@roundcrouton
@roundcrouton 5 жыл бұрын
I think the large palette that he is using is a vintage watercolour palette. So it would be hard to find a duplicate unless you scour ebay for one. My reccomendation if you want large pans is to use the pans that gansai come in. Though the issue with that is that they dont come empty.

I am new to this and I am wondering about storing my brushes. I see you have a tin box for yours. I guess you must always be sure it is upright? Can the brushes get deformed or hairs wrecked if it isn't? I haven't seen a box like yours....is there an alternative way you would recommend? Is it okay to have them in an airtight box like yours? I am concerned as the new brushes I just bought were quite expensive!

My question is do you use the same brushes with each kind of paint ? I have a bucket of brushes for oils, one bucket for acrylics and another bucket of watercolor brushes. I keep them all separate. I would like to try the casein, but should I get new brushes to use with this medium ? Would it damage my regular watercolor brushes ?

Hello! I am in LOVE with the idea of using ink via the water brushes. I've gone to your blog to see the types of ink to use and they are either unavailable on Amazon or 50 USD for one bottle (makes my pockets cry sometimes lol). Do you have an updated or current list of inks that would be suitable for a beginner? I was just going to get the blue, black, and grey from Waterman since they are only 11.00 per bottle. How do you make your grey ink? Also, do you use your inks alone OR have you used them with your watercolors? Thanks :)
