Thank you and I appreciate everything I see too , the withering rose does have beauty and grace as we all have a beautiful time and in my eyes we are withering and changing daily and life is beautiful when you appreciate all you see. I grow plants and am so thrilled with the beautiful beginning and know that I started those beautiful flowers and as it changes I appreciate every step and I loved the video. Thanks Louise I’m Sharon and I’m 67 years old and in Louisiana, USA I’m learning from you . I just love your videos. Have a great day.

All your vids are fun and great learning opportunities, but THIS one was particularly so. The ending was classic! Tonal value really IS super important to understand and grasp. I read that many beginner artists only achieve 85% of the darkest tonal values in their paintings- which basically means that all the other values would also be under achieved in relation. I thought the finished painting was gorgeous.

Your "dead" rose reminds me I have a birthday next week :( .... But what are numbers anyway?! So I can't wait to paint this! THANKS SO MUCH for a wonderful lesson on tonal values, which I have been avoiding during my rookie year but am finally starting to understand, thanks to you!! Most of my confusion and questions about all the intracacies of watercolor were cleared up this past year thanks to your Patreon channel, which I urge EVERY BEGINNER watercolorist to join, as I consider you the best on KZbin or anywhere on the subject, seriously!

Love your reference to puzzle pieces.. I do the same, and make people laugh when I call some of my detailed works “ paint by number”! It helps To ” let go” of the subject and think of shapes and tones just like you said. Love this one. It has so much light and depth and beauty. Going to dig out my olive green and play with it with your two other colours. Will really enjoy this tutorial when it is ready. Hope Dom is back to himself and NOT climbing ladders. Thanks for sharing and all the hard work you do. Saturday morning breakfast and Louise... nice way to start the day.

I am so thankful to you for creating these videos on watercolor painting technique. I am getting back into painting after 30 years of focusing on other things in my life. My last painting classes were in high school and the teachers weren't that knowledgeable about watercolor painting techniques. It's amazing what we can learn on our own in the internet age. Thanks again - You are an amazing painter and I will continue to watch your videos! :-)
@bluewren653 жыл бұрын
There is so much beauty in senescence and even death, as though you are hearing a long weary, melancholic sigh. I must say I was hoping to see you paint that gorgeous abstract shadow, but I can see how it would overwhelm the delicacy of the near dead rose. It would be interesting to see you paint it again, but with the shadow the main subject and the rose reduced to a soft suggestion. Lovely video, thank you.

Louise this is a great lesson as we artists tend to get so caught up in the colors that we forget about how important the values are! You are such a wonderful teacher, and sometimes when I get frustrated with my painting I will watch one of your tutorials to see how you break it down as you’re working, not to mention that your voice calms my blood pressure 😜 and helps me to slow down! Thank you for that! 💕

I love your teaching style and explanation… I’m starting to understand layering and that paintings aren’t always done in a day. I’m not failing if I stop and continue the next day or another day…that is so liberating! I watched someone do a lifting technique with a tissue and I was horrified 😱 😆 but I can understand your discerning eye for light / dark..shadows and color, I have it too! All subjects are interesting and if they are not, make it so…tones can be made to be amazing….groundwork is where it’s at!🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️👍🏽Mia

Louise, thank you for this. I love how you break down your process so that instead of showing how to paint a specific subject, you're teaching us techniques that are useful for painting any subject. There are varying opinions on when to add the darkest darks. There are some watercolor artists on KZbin who advocate starting with lightest lights, then darkest darks, and then the in-between values. The curious thing I've noticed is that they almost always end up finding that the darks they added at the beginning were not dark enough and they have to darken them further. I'm not drawing any conclusions from that; it's just something interesting that I've noticed. I'm experimenting to see what works for me. Thanks again for your excellent instruction.

Gorgeous! I’m so appreciative of you sharing your knowledge of tonal values painstakingly slow, Louise. I’m just over a year on my watercolor journey and you’re right, I do struggle with this however, I do understand that tone is what keeps our paintings from looking flat. I know I’ll get it as time goes on. Thanks too, for sharing the length of time it took to complete this piece. It helps a lot. Blessings to you!
