This is easily the very best explanation of paper wetness and how to paint using that wetness based on the effect you want to achieve. You are an excellent teacher. Thank you so very much. This beginner is so grateful to you!
@nanschifris87345 жыл бұрын
I’ve watched this a dozen or more times & every time I have a little more “ah ha!” With respect to the levels of paper wetness. This is the BEST video I’ve seen on the topic. I especially like the video of each of the stages and the ways you show that stage can be used. I’ve haven’t seen another video that makes the topic of paper wetness so clear. Thank you!!

@Nan Schifris..hi nan..I’ve been struggling with this certain topic for quite awhile! It’s frustrating wasting time watching videos and not learning much. Now I read the reviews before I watch a video so I don’t waste any time. I love this channel, but I never watched this particular video. Your review was the very first one. Love your comment especially the word you used “ah ha”! That caught my eye instantly. You answered my question that allows me to stop look and listen. 🙂 it’s the people who are the ones that will guide us as well as the person who’s teaching us. I thank you for this. You have saved me time but more importantly my sanity. Seriously! I was so ready to throw ALL of my watercolor material right outside the door onto the street. That’s how frustrated I am. I’ve been struggling for about a year. I thought nope can’t do this. You my dear have given me hope. I thank you. I love her videos because she’s very clear on what she teaches. In layman’s terms for beginners. She did teach me an important lesson. Every piece of art that we do, is beautiful. If we despise it stop painting and put it away. Put all your paintings away and in a year look at them again. I did just that. Wow! I was actually amazed. I did that? I asked myself. Not to shabby I’ll say. So I worked on a couple of them and I actually thought hey this doesn’t look to bad at all. I have problems with the 1st layer. To me mine are so ugly and feel there’s no saving them. They’re ruined. I need to learn (working on it) to be very patient. One more thing..I don’t like videos that are teaching us with no sound but have words, as well as how fast they paint. I know they speed it up but that’s not teaching a person. Ever since they started Patreon (sp), that’s all I see now. I’m not learning. I’m not rich either. I feel as if people have gotten greedy or something. Like the saying goes “nothing is free anymore” well that’s clearly a true statement. This lovely woman isn’t like any of that. She teaches. Sorry so long but I was venting and I’m so sorry it was with you lol. I wanted to thank you for your impressive comment and now my comment has turned into a novel 😂 Omgosh I’m sorry. Sequel coming soon😂😂 jk. Blessings from Michigan

One of the best water control videos I've seen. Most are focus solely on wet on wet/wet on dry, but there is so much more in between that nobody seems to talk about, which is why so many find water control challenging - there's just very little information on that other than the simple wet on wet and wet on dry. I learned that damp paper doesn't work the same as wet paper and that almost dry paper most definitely isn't the same as dry paper the hard way (i.e by trial and error and a lot of frustration), which is why I know that this video will be a valuable resource to many. Great job Louise! Another water control subject no one seems to talk about is how to control the amount of water in your brush, and also the amount of water needed in your brush vs. how much water there already is on the paper. Took me a while to learn on my own and might be worth considering as video subjects and maybe extending this water control video to a mini series 😊

@Palmira Farkash…Omgosh thank you for you outstanding review that I desperately needed to read before I dove into another time wasting video! This will NOT be one of them! I’m a beginner I’ve been painting a little over a year. A beginner because of wasted time on videos that were useless. My biggest nemesis water control! Wow! So now I look at reviews before watching. I’ve probably spent ah let’s say 100 hours watching useless videos. So if the commenter is happy and positive.. I trust their judgement so I’ll watch. I believe what happened is when Patreon (sp) started up everyone jumped on the bandwagon (greedy) and all tutorials went down into the swamps of uselessness! Louise teaches in layman terms which in reality is what beginners need. I pray I can get this mastered or supply’s will be in the street free for the taking🙀😂 my patience has run so thin I’m surprised I’m still trudging on. Wish me luck! Thanks for your comment. It has definitely given me some hope. Sorry so long 🤦🏼♀️. Blessings from Michigan janis

I love your tutorials- both the actual painting and the technique demonstrations! I find getting just the right about of water so challenging. I’ll watch this one over several times. I would love to try something on my own- not just follow paint along tutorials (which is what I do now), but I have no idea where to start. Perhaps in a future video you wouldn’t mind discussing the first steps after selecting a subject, whether real or photo? So many flowers die before I even figure out how to go about painting them. 🙁
@LouiseDeMasi5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Maxine and thank you for the suggestion. That happens to me too (with the flowers). That's why I work from photos as much as I can. It's not the same as working from real life but at least I'm not worried about the flower changing and the light changing.

Thank you! I’m very relieved to know that you prefer to work with photos. Whew! I thought it was somewhat “required” to have real life models. You’ve made my day! ☀️ I’m still a bit hesitant to start a project all on my own, but I won’t be killing any more flowers!! 🌺
