I also like more realism in my paintings. Just doing shapes & then drawing around them can be pretty but texture “those lil details” are what need to learn! Ty

I love your masking fluid tips they're wonderful they have really enhanced my painting I want to include one thing that I have found a small jar of water with a couple drops of dawn dish soap if you dip your dry brush in that 1st dab it off just a little and then start using your masking fluid it comes out of the brush much easier, then rinse it out in the soapy water once again and then rinse in cool clear water

Thanks for this Paul. I’m more of a coloured pencil person, but do a lot of pets ( dogs) so the chrome on collars is really helpful. Been thinking if trying watercolour as under colours for mixed media 🤔 watching you bring your paintings come to life always amazes me 👌❤️

Hi Plamena, thank you very much for watching and your suggestion. Yes, there are so many more textures I can put together for everyone here. Don't forget I do have a playlist of painting wood and bark, bit.ly/35z8Spe so it may be worth a look. Paul 🎨

Btw, I love the birds you paint; beautifully done. They are stunning creatures and you do them justice. I hope one day I will be able to paint some birds too. 😍

This is too amazing for words!!!! I so badly wish you had full length tutorial on creating texture. Once I started feeling good about my watercolor I started wanting to add texture and it’s a completely new and different skill… how did miss how important this is? Are you working on hot press paper? I have a terrible time trying to create texture on cold press. I can’t get those fine lines

Glad my video was helpful Katherine. I use cold pressed 140lb Bockingford paper, which I've used for many years. I do have a couple of playlists on painting texture is it helps. bit.ly/3IksjmU bit.ly/35z8Spe Thank you, Paul 🎨

What a nice and useful video! I loved it! What I find difficult is the shiny metal... I cannot see all the colors and the reflections I should put in the painting. A more detailed video on that would be great but, to be honest, any other video would be very helpful, I am sure!

Hi Chiara, that's a good idea for the metalwork. The main video on my website is much more involved as these are snippets from that particular video my members watch. devonartist.co.uk/memberships/ Just remember to really zoom into a photo and try to isolate the area you are working on by using a piece of card with a hole cut out of it, then lightly taping it over the top of the photograph. This will help you concentrate on just that one area and fingers crossed to see more of the colours and details. Paul 🎨
