You are such an inspiration. It always seems so easy for you to do stuff like this, when I try I always mess it up some how. I hope to be as good as you some day in my watercoloring. You're awesome. ❤️👍🏻

Hi Keegan💖🤗Thank you so much, I really appreciate your comment. It takes practice so you will get there! You know it may be overwhelming at first when you see it, but once you have it all planned out, starting with a sketch, then planning in your head your next moves and following that, it's really much easier. I always say your pencil sketch is really important because if you do it well, you will see right away where you need to add light etc. 💕😀Thank you so much!!

such inspirational painting. i like how the green background is just suggested and out of focus. im curious as to why you paint around all your highlights rather than using masking fluid.is it to bring out the contrast more and create texture and shadow? i wondered the same thing on your beautiful camel/sahara piece.
@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, thank you so much. I stopped using art masking fluid (I've used in my previous vids) because a lot of our friends here don't have it and I believe in order to have it working out fine you also need to have a good quality watercolor paper, which not everyone has access to it. When used on cheap paper, it destroys the paper. I know so because I have tested it myself lol I think masking fluid is great otherwise. In general it may be better for people to see that you can work without it anyways because that forces you to work on a light later and preserve the areas white/light until you are ready for it. Thank you!
@IrisMG5 жыл бұрын
@@mariamorjane I'm glad you don't use frisket or mask. I think the more skilled painters like David Rankin, have learned not to even use it at all. That's the kind of skill I strive for

Yet another fab painting! Just out of curiosity.....how do you decide which paintings require masking fluid (like, say, the new sailboat video) and which ones don't. Thanks for your time, Maria (and cheers! from Canada)!
@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, thank you so much! it just depends on what I paint and how I want to paint background and how important it is for me to preserve the white areas.. in the case of sailboat I knew I would have more freedom in painting the sea if I didn't have to worry about getting over the sailboat. I knew my strokes would be more even :)

Beautiful work! I was looking at the pigments you use and saw Rose Madder Hue by Holbein but Holbein doesn't have a watercolor called Rose Madder Hue. I was hoping they did because I use Holbein a lot for portrait painting. They have Rose Madder that is actually a diluted Alizarin Crimson PR83. I don't know why they call the pigment Alizarin Crimson a Rose Madder because either way they are both barely durable. Before Alizarin became synthetic both were organic and made from the pigment madder lake. A plant based color. I adore watching you paint. I will be watching more of your videos. Your paintings are a combination of looseness and realism which I love. Few people can effectively paint realism in such a free loose manner.
@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Hi Renee thank you so much! Oh my I made a mistake, sometimes I work hours on editing and my brain just stops working lol and I confused the colors with Cotman's Rose Madder Hue. Before Holbein I was painting mostly with WN Pro and Cotman watercolors. You are absolutely right, it is Rose Madder by Holbein. I will make a note on that in the description. Thank you Renee :)
@renmuffett7 жыл бұрын
You are most welcome & I truly admire your energy and talent in watercolor! All the hours you work on the video's is outstanding just like your work. I thought it might be Cotmans Rose Madder Hue. If its any consultation, despite that Cotman is student grade, their Rose Madder Hue is more light-fast and durable than W&N artist grade Rose Madder Genuine because Cotmans is made with Quinacridone Pyrrol Red, (PR206) which is a wonderful durable beautiful pigment. Their Alizarin Crimson Hue is better too because its not made with the more fugitive pigment PR83 like their Artist grade is. Its made with PR206 also. Its something many professional artists are not aware of. Cotman's is student grade only because they are not as concentrated, not because of lightfastness. Again, watching you paint is a joy.

Hey how do you feel about these Holbein paints? do they mix well? i heard mixing is a big issue with these as they are not single pigminted paints. Is it true?
@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Hi Khuyen, I really like them and no, that's so not true, they mix great, most pigments are single pigmented paints, some do have more pigments depending on how complex the color is. All professional watercolor brands have colors where some are single pigmented and some have more. Just check out Winsor and Newton for example... their Indian Yellow or Vandyke Brown has two pigments. Check out Daniel Smith watercolors, for example Naples Yellow: 3 pigments, Iridescent Moonstone: 2 pigments. I like Holbein Watercolors because they are easier to control since Holbein doesn't add Ox Gall to their paints.
