I used a paper towel roll so card board. It picked up a lot of paint. Also you should try to use the flat side of the cookie cutter rather than the cutting edge side. 😊

i would try wiping them down with rubbing alcohol since the watery paint wont stick if theres even a hint of oil. i would also try lightly sanding with a super fine grain sandpaper or rubbing with baking soda and water or baking soda toothpaste.

Yes, baking soda and water on plastic to get rid of oil...works on Tupperware to get rid of sticky film oil causes, also.

I couldn't disagree with you any more strongly if I tried that this was a failure in any way shape or form. I didn't even know this existed until you. I love how you approach learning. You screw up, you're honest and you show every way I would do things. I'm real and so are you. You do the things that we all would, so we don't have to. You waste the paper, the effort and the time and save us the headache in figuring it out. You're a light and don't ever think you aren't. I love the shift in content and I love that you're switching it up. I can't wait to see how you decide to do just that in 2023 and surprise us all with what makes YOU happy and how that takes shape. This is your job, yes, but that should bring joy to you, first. Keep going Emma, you're knocking this out of the park, more than you know. We're all cheering you on, even if you can't hear us or we don't sound off as regularly as we should!

I saw the same but I used the lids off my vitamin bottles and it worked!! I was surprised because they were plastic but had enough surface I guess. Also, I made a big puddle of paint from tubes. It's a neat little fun thing to try. 😊

You might try sanding the edge of the plastic stencil with fine grit sandpaper or emery board. Creating a rough surface may help the paint stick and the hearts transfer better. This technique is frequently used with clear acrylic stamps to prevent the ink from beading on the surface.

When you place the colors down just add the colors you couldn't pick up with the brush and go over it by just touching it and let it mix by its self. You get a sort of Psychedelic look. Also make the circle with plain water first on paper then while wet dip object in cor then stamp it and it'll move colors on its own. That's the way I do it it's pretty 😍. Lololol thanks for the demonstration. FLORIDA

I love when people show what doesn't go right. Much more encouraging than someone who's seemingly always peefect! Maybe wet the paper first so the paint flows even if it doesn't pick up so well on the cookie cutter?

Love this! I bought some art that I’m pretty sure used this technique and I’ve been staring at my wall for months trying to figure out how the artist did it! I can’t wait to try this technique. I’m planning on using a glue stick on the plastic cookie cutters and then rubbing off. I remember seeing that in an older art hack video of yours and I’ve prepped every new palette that way and it works wonders every time. Also, I LOVE that you show the full process of learning! You show that art isn’t about what we produce; it’s about the process. Experimentation is part of that process and you can’t learn without failure and surprise. I loved this video!

I really like it. I'm going to try to trace with a thin brush and clean water on the inside of a die I have and then drop the color and see what happens. Nothing goes to waste even if I don't like how something turned out at first. sometimes I have to walk away from something and look at later. Eventually I will need a card panel and I use oops projects for those. Thanks Emma for showing how not to be afraid of experiments....it's only paint and paper! 🧡💛💚💙💜

I apply colour directly to the rim (yellow, pink, blue etc) and it is so much easier. To avoid mud, I don't apply complimentary colours Close to each other like yellow next to purple. P. S. Your painting turned out lovely! 💗💗💗

If using a plastic cookie cutter, I recommend wiping it down with either a magic eraser...or scrubber sponge, to roughen it up to hold the paint better. I can see reusing a toilet paper roll bent into a heart shape. Thanks for sticking with it and giving us all the confidence that it doesn't always work the way we thought it was going to.

I saw your video this morning and loved it. Trying to do something like it and not having heart shaped anything that I could use I used stencils that I had made along with watercolor pencils. Going by the struggles that you were going through I opted for only primary colors. End result, I loved how it turned out. If you have watercolor pencils how about trying this out for yourself. Keep up the good work. Ya know what I bet there are all kinds of stencils out there that could be done the same way! I'm gonna have to try that. See what you did to me!!! LOL!!!

You could use a ‘no line’ ink stamping pad to stamp the cookie cutter (or any image) and then paint the stamped image. As long as the ink is waterproof and the paper will take the stamped image I think that would work.

Try painting the rim of any container or shape with matte medium or gloss medium, it doesn't matter which. This polymer product will leave a slight rubber-like surface and is slightly textured by the brush. Made by Golden and Liquitex. It will be permanent when dry on the tool.
