My heart fluttered when you mentioned Bucharest, really glad you liked the botanical garden and I'm so sorry you didn't get to finish your flower painting. About that factory, It's not actually abandoned, you caught it when it wasn't in it's "high active state", it's a big thermal power plant. It functions a lot more in the winter, then you'll see large steam clouds coming out of those cilinders. Also the way the city is built, that place used to be on the "outskirts" of the main city, after the expansion things got jumbled and urbanists have been trying ever since to remodulate the city... to no avail atm I'm affraid. Regardless, I agree, It is quite eerie to have such a view in the city, more so near a botanical garden XD I hope you come back to Bucharest to visit sometime! Have a lovely day~

Lovely landscapes! I love the feel of the botanical garden right beside the factory.

Thank you for sharing your sketchbook...such very, very nice work. I am especially attracted to the way you use white (gouache) in your landscape studies as highlights. It's not that easy to just smack white down and have it work.

You should try the Pentalic watercolor sketchbook. It’s basically the same setup as this one but it’s 300gsm 100% cotton and cheaper than Moleskine. It works really well for wet on wet and can take a LOT of water and layers. Ok watching the video now. 🤗
@AnastasiaR6 жыл бұрын
david bryan I love the Pentalic so far. If you’re in the US they are only like $12 on amazon right now I think. The Arches one that Myriam shows briefly here is probably really good too. I’ve heard Arches is the gold standard for watercolor paper but I haven’t tried it.
@MeowMeowKapow6 жыл бұрын
The pentalic paper is pretty great! The only problem I have with their books is the shoddy binding. So far, all three of the bound books I got from pentalic have either come to me broken (the glue on the spine separates from the text block, or some of the signatures come apart because of glue issues or the binding thread is broken/breaks) so I’d say if you wanted to get something from pentalic....the safer bet seems to be their ring-bound books, since they use the same quality paper but it’s kind of hard for something bound like that to fall apart. That does mean you can’t really do beautiful full-landscape spreads....but it’s kind of hard to do that as well when two of your pages are split apart and not connected like they should be.
@_GreenSkies_6 жыл бұрын
I'm going through the Pentalic one right now as well and really have been pleased with it. I work at an art supply store and the moleskine water colour books never felt like they were worth the asking price
@MeowMeowKapow6 жыл бұрын
_color_junkie_ I agree with your thoughts on the moleskine watercolor book. The paper is quite thin, and to make up for that it seems like it’s excessively coated in sizing.....but unevenly so. I’d much rather spend my money on a humble hand•book, which I think might be a bit overpriced for a non-luxury book, but they’re quite decent and for some reason, their rustic unassuming nature really encourages me to work freely and usually quite well.
@_GreenSkies_6 жыл бұрын
Meow Meow Kapow same. Those hand•book journals really call to me and I think that's why. I'm a sucker for a good looking art supply (a common artist problem I'm betting). I need to see if cottonwood arts makes a watercolor journal because I love their drawing paper and the look/feel of their books

Our expectations of ourselves are very different from our expectations of others. That painting is better than others and worse than some, like all things. I learn a lot every time I draw, and I strive to get better and better, so everything I create will at some point feel like it is worse that what I'll be able to create in the future. It's normal. It's evolution :) I don't dislike the painting, it just wasn't what I was hoping it would be!

Wow wow wow! It’s so encouraging to see how you’ve improved with gouache over the past couple of years. This was also such a touching video to watch because I’ve been a subscriber almost since the beginning, right before you did the colored card project and I believe you were doing a few animal studies and just starting gouache? I may have the timing a tiny bit off but yes I remember you were a beginner with gouache. I was super impressed then but now NOW you are the Gouache Master! 😍

I have that same sketchbook and also think it’s not the greatest paper, which is part of why I ALSO have a hard time filling it in a reasonable span of time. Plus, eve bolt sent me ANOTHER one during our fake subscription box swap videos so now I have two of them to basically never fill! =x.x= haha. Something that I find interesting is you’re largely another person whose “sketches” are super well-realized. I struggle to let my sketchbooks not somehow be composed and look finalized in a way, though I recently adopted a two sketchbook method where one sketchbook is entirely for thumbnails and scribbled ideas and words and random colors and I use that data collection to then make the pieces in other books. I’m stunned especially by your landscapes, and the fantastic use of texture in each of your pieces. They’re beautiful. Thank you for capturing this for us. ❤️

Hi! I was wondering why you don’t paint on both sides of the pages ? Is it because the pages are wrinkled and it makes it harder to paint or it’s for another reason?😇
@emilyph54986 жыл бұрын
Lorie, sometimes when you paint on both sides of the paper it can be overworked and go through. Idk if that’s why she does it but I’ve definitely had that happen🤷🏽♀️

Does anyone know why moleskine sketchbooks have a California proposition 65 warning?
@myriamtillson6 жыл бұрын
Supposedly because of the PVC in the cover. It only has that warning because California broadened it's use of the law. A bit over the top really. It's only a danger if you burn or eat the cover, haha

I enjoyed seeing your work. One request - when showing a book, don't pull it down when flipping the pages; it's too much movement for no reason. The last couple pages you didn't do it and it looked much better. I like and use the Pentalic watercolor sketchbook. Thanks for sharing!
@myriamtillson6 жыл бұрын
I did have a reason, my tripod was in the way, unfortunately. It was ok to hold the pages at the end, bot otherwise my pages would have started to pile up, hitting the tripod every time I turned one, and overshadowing the sketches I was talking about. Sorry if it was unsettling to watch, I'll try a different set up next time!
